Warning– shop has closed. I found it here on Unilocal and found it with final stock liquidation only. So sad to see a LYS close.

I love going to The Yarn Lounge whenever I’m in town. Their book selection is wonderful. And they have awesome yarns I haven’t seen before.

I was hoping to find a shop that was interested in teaching my 11 year old to knit. We found the store to be dark and somewhat unwelcoming. Left my name and number so that we could line up private lessons but we still have not heard back from them and it has been at least 8 – 9 days. We had much better luck at the Knitting Basket.

I have been visiting this yarn store for about three years now. Every time I am in Richmond, I make it a point to go in and knit awhile at the table. The staff and customers are the friendliest and most welcoming group of people every single time, despite the fact that I only come in about three times a year, since I don’t live in the area. They go out of their way to make you feel like part of the regular group, and the yarn selection is simply wonderful. Beautiful store too, but it’s the gracious attitude that makes it a must anytime I’m in Richmond. Thanks, ladies!

The Yarn Lounge is my favorite LYS in Richmond, and I appreciate the social media interaction. The staff is pleasant, selection is reasonably good, and reasonably updated. They don’t carry many of my favorite yarn choices, and tend to not have huge quantities of those they do stock. To fill a short-term need for more popular lines of yarn or Addi Turbo needles, I shop here. Otherwise, I tend to shop at fiber festivals or online for better selection and prices. After I recent visit(July 2012), I’m revising my rating to 5 stars. Not only was the selection even more extensive, the staff was exceptionally helpful. I found everything I needed, and more. When one thing was sold out, Stewart offered to order and call me when it came in. In terms of atmosphere, it is very typical of Carytown. Parking can be a challenge because of the location. If you need yarn in Richmond, it’s the best choice available.

I’m all about supporting your LYS, but unfortunately, the Yarn Lounge didn’t really cut the mustard for me. The staff were friendly enough, I suppose, but I’ve definitely been in stores that were more welcoming. What really bummed me out was the selection of yarns, as there wasn’t a whole lot to choose from in terms of brands or materials, despite the decent-sized space. You’d think they’d pack it to the rafters in there! Maybe I just came on a wrong day, or my expectations were way too high. Either way, I’m going to have to find somewhere else to get my alpaca yarn fix.

Love the Yarn Lounge! Taken 4 classes there in the past year and I’m proud to report I’ve definitely not been the only 20-something there. The owner has a keen sense of style – the store is so well put together!

I love the yarn lounge! The selection of yarn is awesome, there are zillions of great books, and the folks who work here are so helpful! I would recommend this place a million times over. You will want to come back over and over again.

I LOVE the Yarn Lounge. The skeins are dreamy, as is the whole atmosphere of the shop. It doesn’t feel like my grandmother’s yarn shop. I love how knowledgeable everyone in there is and how helpful they are when I need support in figuring out how much and what type of yarn I need for a project. They even let me borrow needles once so I could sit right down and do a gauge at the shop’s work table.

I taught myself to knit, and I admit that part of the reason I wanted to learn was to give myself a reason to go into The Yarn Lounge. The window displays are adorable and the store itself is warm and inviting. Though I ended up teaching myself and did not need to take the classes offered at The Yarn Lounge, I have recommended it to others that have voiced an interest in learning. When I start a new project and I know I can go in there and get advise on the needles I need or help if I don’t understand the project. Great customer service, especially from Melanie. The prices are more than what you would pay for yarn from Michael’s, but the colors are beautiful, the quality is great, and you get honest opinions from the staff.

I liked Yarn Lounge instantly, and here’s why: I’m in my 20s but look like a teenager. If I walk into a yarn shop I typically get looked at like I have three heads. It’s not that I LIKE shopping at Michael’s or on the internet for yarn, it’s that I don’t feel uncomfortable there. I went into the Yarn Lounge, though, and didn’t feel uncomfortable. Maybe Richmond has more young knitters, I dunno. The woman working there was pretty young, too, and the older ladies sitting and knitting in the back never glared. The shop had plenty of high quality yarn(no 100% acrylic here, folks) and plenty of books, but seeing as how I’d either have to buy new needles or wait another 2 weeks until I get home, I didn’t buy anything. A nice, cozy store, though, that I’d love to return to.

I don’t knit. I’ve tried. I’ve helped make a sweater(ok, like 3 lines) and it worked out. But alone– no dice. The ladies here are awesome, friendly, and armed with the patience of a saint. I buy yarn here for one of my super crafty friends. They literally have rows and rows of any kind of natural fiber yarn you could want. One of the ladies evens makes her own and sometimes spins it in the shop. They sell all kinds of needles, cases, unique buttons and so much more. Not crafty? You can buy something sweet one of the gifted workers has made. They offer classes several times a week after shop hours for any knitting level… I need to get my tail in for one of those. The owner’s dog relaxes in the store while people sit, knit and share stories. Seems like heaven.
