Long Island Shooting Range of Brookhaven

I actually like this range, Safety first. Today went with my friend, an Ex-​PO, he got yelled at because cease fire he was telling a story while his un-​loaded pistol facing sideways, sure enough the range officer right behind me. But he was fair and my friend apologized, no hard feeling. Then I tried the Trap shooting, it’s not bad. overall.
But I like Calverton and yaphank clays way better, probably because I’m used to them and bit more freedom than brookhaven.

It’s an OKAY range.
We dont have many ranges on Long Island so I’ll take what I can. That being said I really prefer Calverton over this range. Reasons being
— Their RSO are assholes (never to me because this isn’t my first rodeo) but to people that might not know every rule at their strict range. On the contrary there is almost NO SUPERVISION at Calverton, take that how you like.
— The fact that for some reason they don’t allow you to shoot at human silhouette target is RIDICULOUS. Lets not forget «must be seated while shooting» and «no rapid fire» (and they aren’t afraid to scold you on a bullhorn)
— For $ 18 a person, they sure as hell aren’t putting that money into their «newly renovated» range as they quote on their website. The supports and frames around the range and HEAVILY damaged from gunfire.
— The range is very tight. You’re basically sitting on top of the person next to you with NO room to settle your stuff down. Typically you’re getting rained on with brass from the person shooting to your left.
— Parking is a small walk. You must park up a slight embankment with a small chain link fence separating you and the range area. This is a cumbersome inconvenience when you’re coming with multiple gun cases, ammo, targets, and whatever else you have to carry back and forth. Calverton on the contrary you park RIGHT behind your bench. completely eliminates the lugging of over-​sized cases and equipment.
Overall if you’re just looking for a place to go to and blast some shots at a circle or square target and know your way around a shooting range, this isn’t the worst spot. I will only come here on days that Calverton is closed.

much better than calverton range. you have a roof over your head, they have staplers so if you forget yours you can still hang your targets. the range officers are OK as long as you listen to them. some reviews say bad things about them but I don’t Blane them for yelling at people who are being stupid. with the amount of people here safety is a big issue and they do there best to keep everyone safe. the benches are much better here than Calverton, they have a real bathroom up by the office and n decent range store to check in and buy targets and ammo from. the benches and target stands are numbered so there is no confusion unlike Calverton wear you have to try and line up your spot to your target. You don’t get the kids trying to set up 4 targets and shooting sideways here. just a much more coordinated place and a much nicer atmosphere.

This place is cool and very simple to use. Follow their rules, clean your brass, place gun/​rifle on the racks and wait till they give the green light to shoot again. Mainly run by older dudes, some vets and they can come off grumpy. A young dude helped us out on a jammed riffle without making a big commotion and no charge. (I hooked him up with a couple bucks before we left). Its a shooting range, follow the rules and you’re good to go. Leave your ego at home. Took a star off due to shitty maintenance of the place but it serves its purpose.

We were actually planning on shooting at the Calverton range yesterday, however when we arrived, there were cars waiting in line to PARK, so we decided to leave and head over to Brookhaven range (for our first time). We were actually a bit reluctant due to the reviews that we read online, however we were all SO glad that we visited this range!!!
We did not witness any scolding or any of the employees being arrogant (as stated by previous reviewers). They were actually all super nice. All the customers/​shooters were nice as well!
It costed $ 65 after taxes for the three of us, and 3 hours of shooting max. The prices are definitely higher than Calverton, however the range was a lot cleaner, and there was a roof, which is a huge plus!
There are still a few positives over at Calverton vs. this range (which I will not disclose on here), therefore we will still be visiting that one.
Overall, we were super happy with this range and highly recommend! Woohoo! :)

At first we were a little apprehensive to head here because of the previous bad reviews, and thought we might just head to Calverton, but we were soon glad that we chose to give it a try. The man at the reception desk was courteous and informative. Shooting for the day cost $ 18, which is very comparable to other ranges. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the range was pretty full, though the range master found us lanes within a minute or two. The overall shooting experience was great, though a little different than I’m used to. The lanes are pretty close together, so I’d recommend wearing a long-​sleeved shirt to avoid being hit with shells. Conditions were great in the range; it was very clean and well-​kept. It was also really nice to have overhangs, which don’t exist at Calverton. The range workers themselves were cool, and also very helpful, and though other reviewers cited bad experiences with the staff we encountered nothing of the sort. My friend paid to have his scope mounted and rifle sighted in (a service they provide for $ 20), and because the range worker wasn’t able to finish because he started so close to closing time, he said to come back any other time and have it done for free, which is just good customer service in my opinion. Overall, it’s probably the best all-​around range I’ve been to on the island.

Very good range. Trap & Skeet, Rifle and Handgun shooting available. Staff is helpful (For a Range). $ 7 for 25 clays. Decent Ammo supply. Be careful w GPS. The range is 1 mile East of the WF Parkway, not West.

Will never return. Run by arrogant jerks. Safety is one thing, but between that fat tub of lard that collects your money to that bullying RSO who thinks he is above you, you are much better off spending your money elsewhere. Been to many ranges in my life, and I have never seen such a low class operation. I think that the staff members were beaten up when they were kids, and now these guys have something to prove. We left before even firing a single shot. At a buck or more a shot these days, I prefer to be around a nicer crowd before I part with my hard earned cash.

Do you want to feel like a 5 year old being scolded for not putting his Legos away? If you said yes this is the shooting range for you!
Brookhaven shooting range is by no means a spectacular sight. That being said I could have a fun time shooting in far more run down places, or just a big sand pit However you would think the way the range master talks to you here you are an employee at a 5 star hotel the morning after a Mötley Crüe concert. You don’t clean up your brass and they make a public spectacle out of you. A single 556×45 round lay in the ground that I missed and he used a bullhorn to tell me. Then I Put my bag on the wrong bench and don’t even get me started on the response to that. For the 18 dollar range fee I paid you think you’d get a little more respect, or maybe they could hire someone to pick up the brass because they’re sure not using that money to fix up the place. I have no issues sweeping up my shells but you don’t need to be rude. No thanks brookhaven I’ll go elsewhere.

This is the place I go to in order to shoot some of my antique military rifles at 100 yards. It is a decently kept and well run and safe range compared to some other places I’ve been to. There is an office to check in that sells supplies, and restrooms are kept pretty clean. The shooting benches, though, are narrow compared to some other ranges and they are too close together, again, in comparison to other ranges. But overall, this is a really good and safe place to enjoy shooting.

«Raise your hand if your mom didn’t come here with you today. Great, now if your hand is raised, you should be picking up brass.» Gotta love the sass. Been here twice, no complaints. They take credit cards but there’s a $ 10 minimum.

I recently picked up a Mossberg 500 12 gauge. I wanted to get comfortable with the gun so what better than a shooting range!
My friend took me there and we picked up our passes for $ 18 a person, some slugs and targets etc. They have a good amount of spots open for 50 yards, 100 yards, and 200 yards. The staff was friendly and this one older gentleman with a gold cap on his tooth was very helpful in the 50 yard range.
I can’t say I was very good for my first time, but the getting comfortable portion was great. The prices were decent, the staff was fine and the range is what I assume a range should be.
When I go in the future I will be heading back to this range most definitely.

When I called on the phone it was supposed to be 15 dollars for 3 hours of shooting and I was told hours work from 9 am to 5 pm. When I arrive at the range I was told it was 18 not 15 to shoot for 3 hours I went down to the range and was told by the range of sure that they close at 345 not 5 pm… I wish I would’ve known ahead of time as I would not of wasted the trip

This is a a very well run, organized shooting range that offers options for users of different guns including rifles, shotguns and handguns.
They offer leagues also, I personally am on a trap shooting league.
Prices are reasonable. Most employees are knowledgable and helpful.
For those of you you have fears of guns or gun ranges, this is a very safety conscience range and I believe risks are minimal as long as all rules are abided by.

I love the smell of gun powder! Now I want an HK USC .45 now — super cute! With a bearable kick. The shotgun’s got some serious kick. I should have gave it more than one try … but I’d for sure be a little bruised up…
The check-in’s pretty easy, the guy writes everyone’s name, town and maybe age in a composition notebook. I didn’t even talk to him. They’re well stocked with things like ear plugs, glasses, ammo, targets, jackets, rifles… we saw a sign that read «Deli» but was open on a Saturday afternoon.
They’re spread out on huge property that includes campgrounds! There is a trap & skeet on one side and the rifle & pistol ranges on the other. (36 rifle positions at 100 yards 18 positions at 200 yards, 20 rifle and pistol positions at 50 yards, 8 pistol and rimfire positions at 25 yards and 8 pistol positions at 12 and 7 yards.)
They are definitely running a tight ship over there. They have a list of 16 safety rules and also include that there are some that are not listed and to check with the range officers. My favorite, «11! No silhouette, photo or printed targets depicting the human form are allowed on the range.» And for the rifles, you have be on the bench. They give you about 20-​some minutes of shooting and then ceases fire for about 15 to change targets and clean up shells/​casings. We had a nice corner of last 3 benches at the end of the line. I think we were like 100 yards away … have to get back to you on that. I got about 4 – 5 rounds over 3 hours. The HK holds a clip of 10, I don’t know about the AK-​47. A little too much kick for me. Besides the HK is kinda sexy looking.
Great place to go to, but definitely need to look into something closer to home: Exit 68 on the LIE.
