Mari Paz Day Spa

I have to admit after reading the previous posts I was very apprehensive. I was looking for a new waxing place and I have found it. The lady Carine who did my waxing was amazing. She is very kind and compassionate. During the time I was in with her she was completely focused on me and my comfort. The prices are reasonable, the rooms are clean and serene. After my appointment I to see a massage room and she gladly showed me. I made an appointment to come in and try that as well. I can’t wait.

I have been to many places for a massage and never have I experiences something so traumatic to the point where 20 minutes in I wanted to get dressed and go home. I felt so violated by this man. At first he asked me about my body and I specifically told him my shoulders and shoulder blades needed alot of work so focus on that. Yet 45 out of the 60 minutes was focused on my ass! I will never go back to this place again, so much for relaxing! I came home crying if anything. Another thing is the room wasn’t even dark nor did he play music to have me relaxed, and he kept talking throughout the whole massage. I do not suggest this place, I felt as if I was about to get raped.

This Ridgefield spa is a gem. Everyday I do something for myself. A once a month massage is a must. I use groupons when available and have been to almost every spa in Fairfield county. I can without doubt say that Jose Luis of Mari Paz Day Spa is the BEST AND SUCH A KNOWLEDGEABLE massage therapist. His techniques are different but he is highly skilled and has a huge following. He makes time for his clients. Love, love, love.

I went for my «90 minute massage» at Mari Paz this weekend, after having purchased it on Groupon. First of all, I was ten minutes late. I called to apologize and no one answered the phone. Then I arrived, and sat waiting for 20 minutes. Which was not a problem, given that I too, was late.
Then the masseuse asked me what I was looking for. I told him I had a little lower back pain but I wasn’t worried about that, I just wanted a relaxing Swedish massage and that my head and neck always hurt so please pay attention to my head. He then proceeded to aggressively stretch me for the first 15 minutes. Aside from how uncomfortable it was because their sheet (provided to cover you) wasn’t large enough for 38″ inseam legs to be flailing around… this does not fall under the category of a Swedish massage, this was a therapeutic stretch. And I asked him to please stop because it was hurting my aforementioned back pain and causing me to feel uncomfortable. That sheet is not meant for a woman who is 6′ tall. Meanwhile, there was a separate sheet over my breasts! So when I rolled over I was exposed.
He then put a towel over my head to «protect my hair,» to which I replied, «Please don’t worry about that, I would like my head rubbed so I anticipate the oil in my hair.» He «protected my hair» three more times and NEVER rubbed my head. Perhaps my largest of all grievances… I paid for 90 minutes with an appointment at 11am. I arrived at 1110am, was seen at 1130 and yet he dismissed me at the scheduled time of 1230pm, in other words I was short-​changed. Ultimately, I would have totally understood that my tardiness would affect the length of the massage. Therefore, ten minutes taken out of my full time would have been understandable. However, HE was running late by a half hour, and they cut into MY TIME?
Aside from a «masseur» who failed to listen to any direction at all (which, is sort of the point right? To relax and cater to the client), he also stretched me while I was in my underwear (since I thought this was going to be a NORMAL MASSAGE and I would be covered without my legs SPREAD WIDE OPEN with the sheet dangling, and he kept tucking it in to be «appropriate» but the amount of tucking and it’s location, actually made it more inappropriate. and he didn’t stop even when I asked him to please move forward with the massage), when he finally started to massage (poorly) he cut it short by thirty (technically twenty due to my tardiness) minutes. I am just baffled…

Purchased a Groupon and they were able to get me in the same evening. I requested a 90 min deep-​tissue massage and this was the first REAL deep tissue I have ever experienced! Jose Luiz is amazing, he started with a series of stretches and asked me questions as he learned what parts of my body were extra tight and needed the most attention. After about 20 minutes, he got into the massage and continued to ask how each area felt as he went. He is very strong, but applied just the right amount of hard pressure. Towards the end, he worked on lymphatic drainage and explained how all of the different muscles and systems work together. He told me massage was his obsession and passion, and that is evident in his listening to all of his knowledge. Already booked another one in a few weeks! :) Not a very fancy «spa», but give him a try if you’re looking for the real deal!
