The customer service at this place is awful! I went in and they told me they couldn’t do my inspection. I made an appointment for the next night at 6:30 and when I showed up they told me my inspection couldn’t be done! No phone call, nothing! It’s completely outrageous that they would treat people this way! I ended up going to the pep boys in Long Island city and they were absolutely amazing!

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! Went in to get an oil change. I asked how long at the lady at the front desk. She said there were 2 cars ahead of me, so about an hour before they can work on my car. I said fine. Two and a half hours later, my car hasn’t moved an inch from where I parked it. I asked the front desk and she said that she was sorry and she could give me my car key back.
I took my key back and off I went. Bye2 pepboys forever and ever.
They get one star was because I can’t give zero star.

ordered pair of wipers online to pick up at store to save time. 2 people working service (5 people waiting — cashier points me to parts — waited 10 minutes — asked Service guys to assist — response — someone should be there :-) place is a JOKE … asked them to call someone — no response — after another 10 minutes parts phone starts ringing finally guy shows up — pissed that he needs to work … STAY AWAY from this place! unless you got A LOT of time on your hands! Hint! for parts just start calling parts number from parking lot right before you get in to get a better chance for someone actually to be at their work location ;-) What a joke!!! KEEP AWAY from this location!

I expressly asked what the extra money was for and was lied to during the sale. Typical, say one thing and deliver another. Stay away from this place, no matter what they tell you in person or on the phone, you are being ripped off.»
When I purchased the 4 tires, about a year ago, the salesperson told me I could bring the car back and have the tires rotated & balanced for as long as I owned the car and tires at no cost to me. Great.
About three months ago, I had the tires rotated, at no cost. The clerk (different then the first salesperson) asked if I wanted them balanced, free of charge. I declined but great.
This time on 11/​30/​2015 I was told I have to pay for the tire balance. I explained that I purchased rotation and balance when I bought the tires. The clerk said no, that was for 90 days. This was the same salesperson that sold me the tires about a year ago. Not great, horrible.
I paid $ 65.28 just to leave.
I posted to Unilocal because I didn’t know what else to do.
I would like my $ 65.28 returned to me asap just on principle. I spend a lot of money, it would unfortunate if this was my last purchase at pep boys.

I only gave 1 star because I had to. This place is the absolute worst! I went on a weekend and the wait was 2 hours for an oil change– understandable because it was the weekend and I walked in without an appointment or anything. I asked the guy at the front desk what time is usually their down time, he said during the week around 4pm is usually always very slow. I decided to call on a Monday at 4:00pm to see if there was a wait. I specifically asked if there was a wait and how long it would be if I came in about 20 minutes. The woman who answered the phone said there was no wait and I could go in now. I pull into the parking lot, park, and walk inside. Lo and behold the line is almost to the door. There’s at least 10 – 12 people in front of me waiting. It was 4:26pm. I told myself that if I was still waiting at 4:35, I would leave. It was past 4:35 and the line hadn’t moved. I called another shop not too far away and asked them how long it would be for an oil change. They said they were free and to go now. I got off the line and went to the other place. I was done within 20 minutes.
This pepboys is a joke and no one seems to know what the hell they’re doing. They send you all these great coupons in the mail and you can’t even use them because their employees are incompetent and clearly cannot tell time. Never again!

I am so disappointed with my recent experience at Pep Boys. I made an appointment online, went in early, and didn’t end up leaving until six-​and-​a-​half hours later. Let’s be very clear here: I knew what I wanted/​needed done when I went in: Tires, struts, oil change. It was included in my appointment, and I told them upfront.
When I approached the counter, I was met by Maurice, who seemed to be nice at first. I had called earlier in the week and was told 1) that I could combine coupons and 2) that if I had multiple services, they’d cut me a deal. When I spoke to Maurice, he told me that he didn’t know if this was the case or not.
So, after going back and forth, him trying to upsell me various things, him telling me that I could «probably» use coupons, but I wouldn’t know until checkout because there’s no way to give a discounted estimate in the system, I asked for a time estimate, sat down, and waited. I was told 2.5−3 hours. Two hours later, I looked outside, and my car still hadn’t been brought in. When I approached the counter to ask Maurice what the hold up was, he pretty much informed me that appointments are useless and that they don’t take precedence over walk-​ins. Oh, great, so why did I waste my time then?
From there, I asked to speak to Shorn, the manager, who was seemingly nice and helpful. Within minutes, my car was taken in, and Shorn told me it’d be two-​and-​a-​half hours. I said I’d be back, and went on to have my eyebrows threaded, eat lunch, and get a mani/​pedi. When I returned, guess whose car still wasn’t done? Mine.
I was livid. I asked for Shorn, who seemed a little less helpful this time around and informed me that it was taking longer because one of the mechanics had to take an hour-​long lunch. OOOOHHH, apparently that’s my problem.
I literally waited the remainder of the time, checking in with Maurice (who developed a piss-​poor attitude) and started completely ignoring me. He was so rude and disrespectful. Then, he was so annoyed towards the end that he handed me the service sheet and told me to check out at the register.
Still livid, I asked for Shorn who gave me like a $ 20 discount… big whoop… and sent me on my way.
Something needs to be done to make this right. I arrived at 9:50 for my 10 a.m. appointment, and didn’t leave until after 4:30 p.m. I dealt with rude employees, and I feel very taken advantage of. I’ll be contacting a few peeps.

Needed a state inspection for my car. Pep Boys allowed me to make an 8am appointment. There seems to be a few complains about not keeping appoitments. I will provide an update tomorrow. 3 stars.

At 8am, there were at least 15 people on line before me. There were two service managers taking service requests. I can’t tell if the people were just walk ins or had appointments. Based on past reviews, the chances are that I have to wait a while before work can be done on my car. I informed the service manager while on line (30 minutes) that I want to cancel. He waved and I left the line.

In summary problem doesn’t seem to be with Pep Boys. There are just too many people needing service. Just remember to allocate extra time when coming to this place.

Pep Boys, if you are going to allow customers to make appointments, then our expectation is that you will honor the time. Recommendation: Have two lines at the service desk. 1 for appointments and 2 for walk-​ins. If you have one service desk person, then the priority for the service desk person would be to handle the appointments first.

Stay away. Stay very far away. Appointments are USELESS
Forget about calling corporate for help. It’s an endless phone loop without any live people answering.

I called here on saturday to inquire if they can replace a shock in my car. I told them I have a hybrid vehicle, the girl on the phone comes back and says oh you have to take it to the dealership. I was like really? Ok. I read on their website they have ASE certified technicians and can service all hybrids, I guess NOT! Horrible service at this location.

If I could give them –15 stars I would they made me sit in their waiting area for 40 minutes before telling me that a technician is not available to install two front tires it’s the simplest job and they had half a dozen mechanics on staff there what kind of nonsense is that it was horrible customer service horrible communication and I’m never going back there again. The salesman taking care of me wrote up kept boring me with what kind if car he was building instead of communicating properly with his techs to establish that the work I required would get done. I plan on contacting the better business bureau and if my tire blows out while I commute the miles I was scheduled to commute that I indicated to your incompetent salesperson I will hold your entire organization responsible for any loss or injury. Furthermore I plan on filing a complaint with my congresswoman about the disrespectful men and their toy cars that congregate in your parking lot to drink and degrade women. They were very nasty to me as they parked so close to my car I couldn’t even get into it. I had to climb into it. I’m so disgusted and livid over this experience after 10+ years of being a customer I am done. And you can check the file history at the metropolitan ave and forest avenue Staten Island location. I have spent several thousand for over 3 different vehicles over the years. But I will never go there again. Disgraceful.

Worst PLACE EVER ! 3 days and 4 hours to replace a part I ordered and every time I ask for information no one ever knows what is going on with the car… WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE !

After working late 06÷30÷15 and I’m in desperate need of an inspection I approached the service desk at 8:12PM and was immediately shut down saying the shop was closed. They’re cleaning up. So if your service hours are until 9 PM and there are guys leaning in the garage how are they cleaning? Simple, they’re not. They’re sitting and robbing the company of time. I’ll be sure to send my letter to corporate. Also the speeding through the lot in to garage bays to store dropped off cars overnight is unsafe dree and unprofessional. It’s obvious to me that nobody is supervising the staff. Shame on you Pep Boys Metropolitan Ave!

Came in for a state inspection. Was told it’d be a half hour. Still here 4 hours later.

I’ve been here 2X and checked on the form and asked «can you do a general check up and let me know if there are any issues?» or ever how they word it, and both times they didn’t. They only do what you tell them to do. That is really unhelpful for people who don’t know much about cars. I can’t raise my car up in the street in Queens to look under the car for issues — I am not a mechanic. YOU are supposed to be the expert — my profession and expertise lie elsewhere.
But the larger reason for the low rating is this — I got an oil change here barely 3000 miles ago, 99% sure that it’s been less, because I don’t drive much at all and that was only 4 months ago. Anyways, there is definitely no leak but I am already almost completely out of oil. Where did it go?
This was the first time I’ve EVER had this happen, can’t help but see a connection between this incident and the fact that I had my 1^st oil change at Pepboys, and as a result, my crankshaft sensor broke, which cost WAY more than any $ I saved with Pepboys’ cheap oil changes.
I obviously don’t think their was any malintent, but I do think that the people there aren’t knowledgeable enough about cars, from my two experiences… they need a senior mechanic to oversee things there

Be warned, this Pep Boys does not honor appointments. I had an 11am oil change appointment and was told that it couldn’t be done until 1:30, because walk ins were in line ahead of me.
Do not allow people to make appointments if you’d rather take walk ins. It is a waste of my time and yours, and I will find another place to go instead.
Edit: A very nice lady at Advanced Auto Parts told me to go to Pace Tire & Diagnostic Center, under the Goodyear tire sign at 68 – 31 Eliot Ave. It’s just down the block, not even 2 minutes from Pep Boys. They were super nice and my oil change was half the price, they fixed a couple of little things they noticed free of charge, and I was in and out within the hour.
I will never go to Pep Boys again, and I hope that their name doesn’t allow them to cary on, because this location is awful.

Roadside assistance towed my Hyundai here after my car was jerking around in first and second gear and revving to 4k rpms in park after driving for a short while as well as a new check engine light. They charged 100 for engine diagnostics, then called later saying there were «too many problems» with it and didn’t want to waste their time. I should of checked Unilocal first. I’d rather get herpes (again) than come back to this shit show. Rude as hell too. I suggested it may be the O2 sensor that was causing my car to stall and rev to 4k rpms in park, they immediately shrugged me off and said an O2 sensor wouldn’t make your car do that. Fools… of course it would! Try a simple google search and it’s one of the most common reasons for a check-​engine light and the other symptoms I was having. More like Poop Boys to me. Don’t take ur car here! F Dis Place :)

Came to this pepboys just to change one tire and seen they finish my car about 20 mins theres no lines and yet i went up to the lady who works at the desk to see if they can release my keys so i can go the lady looked at me with a nasty look on her face like im not not a paying customer arg enuff said

recently I was lazy (yea I know) and wanted to save a few dollars so instead of going to my dealer for an oil change I went to pep boys… Big Mistake!!! as my next oil change I went back to the dealer as I was already there and low and behold Pep boys put a similar looking oil cap in my engine not even the proper one, if you lost my oil cap you could’ve replaced it YOU ARE AN AUTO PARTS STORE aren’t you? but NO you didn’t and you didn’t even tell me if you are doing Shady things like that how much more when a customer needs a more serious issue? o just in case you where wondering if it was my dealer that was lying, they showed me the improper cap and they didn’t have it in stock so they went and ordered it from another branch and didn’t charge me for the new cap …

Decided to give Pep Boys a try when the last car shop I went recommended me oil change every 3k, knowing that my car uses synthetic*. I made an appointment online. Pep Boys provides free tire rotation with oil change service — perfect, exactly what I needed.
You’ll need to park your car by the mechanic area, then head into the store for the service counter to confirm/​request the service you want and hand over the key.
I waited a while on the line at the counter (and a longer line formed while I was waiting for my car). They definatelly need more staff in the front. At 11am on a Friday, the gentleman behind the counter was doing paper work for two clients and answering the phone at the same time. I think making an appointment makes a difference. They will prioritize working on your car first.
The oil change and the tire rotation took around 1 hr and 10 – 15 mins. Well, all I hope is that they did a good thorough job. So bring a book, play a game on your phone or watch the Wimbledom game like I did on the tv in their waiting area.
The staff are friendly, and they honored the coupon I pulled up on my phone without a fuss. Definatelly check on their website for any deals or coupons before heading over.
*If your mechanic tells your that… RUN.

The two words that best describe Pep Boys? Chronically Understaffed.
No matter the location, if there are more than two to three people looking for a part or any automotive accessory at the same rough time frame, there is a line at the parts department and one sales associate getting bombarded while trying to stock inventory on the shelves.
Clearly not the fault of the employees, under staffing comes from above. Pep Boys from the retail side sells items that are a waste of space. How do seat covers and fuzzy dice options outweigh the space for such necessary items as motor oil, which occupies a small third section of a wall in the back. Then rake you over the coals on price. GTX for $ 6.75 A QUART, NON SYNTHETIC. Hello $ 50.00 home oil change, with filter, maybe.
