This shoe store, right down the street from my apartment, is owned by a classic shoe salesman right out of the 1960s, and he has been nothing short of AMAZING to me and my husband. He and his assistant are diligent about fit and are totally willing to spend whatever time it takes with you to ensure you leave with boots or shoes that fit like a glove. Do you have a broad, wide foot like me? Well, they’ll go find you a wide and/or only recommend styles with a roomy toe box. Do you have long, skinny legs like me and my husband? Well, he will find you styles that run slim in that area, and is also totally willing to add extra holes to the straps so your fit is absolutely perfect. Slim feet, muscular calves, and any other fit challenge you may have will be considered if not solved by this dedicated, friendly fitting team. The owner of Simon Shoes is so successful that he now has five stores: two in Queens, two in the Bronx, and one in the city, on the Upper East Side. Give this store a ring and ask which location the owner’s at before you go. He is usually in Ridgewood on Sundays, and I should know. I was just in there this afternoon, asking for business cards to hand out to the half-dozen female co-workers I’ll see tomorrow who love the crap out of the three pairs of boots I’ve bought from him in the past year and want to come by themselves. Simon Shoes: what more could be said? It’s fun to shop at. It’s staffed with friendly, caring salespeople. It has an impressive collection of fashionable women’s shoes at rock-bottom prices(and a smaller selection of men’s and kids’ shoes for equally unbeatable bargains). It’s…ah, screw it. Just go!
