This was our first time to Sparkling Pond and we loved it. Katie Moran, our wine guide, was knowledgable about the wines but also fun and engaging. The food pairings with the wines were a great unexpected touch. Definitely recommend this winery on the Lake Erie Wine Trail.

We decided to hit a few of the vineyards on the Lake Erie wine trail on what was a rather cold Saturday afternoon. Upon entering Sparkling Ponds, we were actually outnumbered by staff 3:2, which was not surprising to me considering it is far before the frigid temperatures of the region will warm up. What was surprising, however, was one off the girls working there said a busload of 34 came through earlier in the day, followed by a limo of 16. After experiencing the tasting at Sparkling Ponds, I can see why! Unlike the previous stops we made on our mini tour, the staff took us through a tasting that included every wine they currently had available. That fact alone, in my opinion, really puts them at an advantage because you get to sample everything and don’t have to pick and choose what you want to taste. The girl that did our tasting was very knowledgeable and recommended certain pairings with certain food and had a couple samples of food items they sell in their shop to pair with certain wines. The whiskey sticks, although not made on premises, were addictive! Some specific highlights for me personally included the seyval, which is a white with a sweet taste but still very pleasing and refreshing, their Riesling-which is more sweet than dry but not overly so– and the woman pleaser, Niagra grapes with a hint of cranberry. The cranberry taste was more of an after effect but delicious still. Red highlights included«Girls-R-Meaner», a Gerwurtztraminer., which was more of a fruity red, and the Dago Red, which is their family traditional wine. They actually sell a drink mix that is typically blended with the Dago Red and makes a great slushie type drink-what a genius idea! It tasted like a fruit popsicle. They also had a great Catawba ice wine, which before this trip, I had never tried ice wine before and now, although I probably couldn’t drink a whole glass due to the sweetness, I’m a huge fan! I will be sure to make a return trip in the spring or summer so I can see the actual«sparkling pond» in front of the shop as well as the extensive vineyard property out back!

Friendly, helpful vintners and staff. Knowledgeable and willing to tell you about the wine, what to cook with the wine, and other important details. They set the bar for our day of winery-hopping, and they set it HIGH!(I was disappointed at other winerys, but you’ll have to read their reviews to find out why). Plus, their wines are tasty! I’ll have to get back for ice wine and sparkling, as neither were available in September, but I’m willing to make the journey! Thanks Sparkling Pond!
