This is totally based on a take out order. We read many great reviews ~ the caesar salad was as small a salad as I have ever seen. 7 $. We were a little shocked. They asked us if we wanted bread and we said yes. Didn’t have it when we got home. The vegetables were good and the mashed potatoes were excellent. Hoping that an inhouse experience would have been different. No doubt the food is amazing; take out… not so much.

I live at the foot of mountain 15 min from this restaurant. I would drive a LOT further to bring friends from out of town. most of my friends are well travelled and definite foodies. We are never disappointed. Often, I will pick up a to go order after working all day on my farm and it is such a treat to look forward to. Jessica at front desk is always a pleasure to talk to. I am price conscious, but to me, it is so worth it. Service is friendly, never rushed and all the wait staff are veteran employees. I often pick up the special on Wed or Thurs nights, early and before crowds kick in. Fom Chattanooga, take 193 south, then go up 136 to top of Lookout. It is beautiful trip down the valley and safer road than those on the mountain coming South! Mapquest shows I24 to I 59 to the Trenton exit is fastest! I would compare it to any restaurant in Chattanooga, not just the few on Lookout! Probably can get downtown faster anyway.

I could eat here once a week and be totally content. This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Chattanooga area. Unpretentious, great service and always perfectly executed. Most of the items on their menu are a la carte, but I like that because it allows me to customize my meal just how I want it. Additionally, it works out well so I can split a protein with whoever else I’m eating with and then get the salad and/or veggies that make me happy. Their meats and seafood are top notch and consistently prepared exactly as ordered(never a piece of overdone salmon– Yippee!) Canyon Grill is BYOB, and again, I like that. Actually, I love that. I usually take a bottle of red and a bottle of white and then open whatever best matches my order(or whatever I’m in the mood for… or both, depending on the group!) Just be mindful that if you live in Chattanooga, you still have a drive back down the mountain so be smart. And oh yeah, they have a great press coffee ;-) Most of the servers have been here for MANY years and it shows. They are all real professionals, the kind of people who are there when you need them and not when you want some privacy. Truly great people work here. Also, I would recommend calling ahead before going, especially for busy nights. Do NOT miss this one.

We waited for about 30 minutes, but we understood since it was a busy Friday evening and we didn’t call ahead. Very pleasant staff greeted us and let us borrow their bottle opener for out BYO beverages.(DON’T FORGETTOBYO!) Exterior looks a bit dated but the seating outside is decent enough if the weather permits. Interior was dated but romantic and good for groups or couples if you manage to be sitting in the other room away from large groups. I liked the decorative lighting… but would have appreciated brighter ceiling lights. Just my personal opinion. Wear dress casual, some came in jeans and some wore slacks. Now the food! My minty fresh sweet tea greatly complimented the toasted french loafs with butter. We ordered the spicy fetta dip– simply oil and crushed garlic with 6 pieces of fetta cheese and sliced toasted french loaf. Very simple and tasty. Now we both had the tastes for some seafood so I ordered the catfish, simply breaded and very crisp and fresh, and he ordered salmon with had a grape and herb(basil?) topenade to eat with. Vegetables came a la carté, somewhat irritating as we’d expected a side of something to be served with our entrées. But the vegetables are indeed what makes this place stand out; fresh and organic sweet potato, whole deep friend and crunchy okra, and the«house» special was a roasted red cabbage quarter. A note that irritated us: the cabbage could have been cored as it still had the core when it was served. Why pay 5 $ for a somewhat tedious and presentation-lacking item? We found this to be both parts funny and interesting, it was steamed and roasted to perfection but was a large portion. We had leftovers of our sides. Overall it was very unique and relaxing. Our server was a pleasant lady with shoulder length hair and knew a lot about all the items. Will return in the future, everything minus the cabbage was lovely.
