Update: See my 4 and 5 star reviews for Frequency RC in Layton, and West Valley Hobby in Salt Lake. _______________________________________________ Number of times I’ve gone in there needing something: a dozen. Number of times I’ve left with what I needed or something useful: maybe 2. Selection: 1 Price: 3 Staff: 2(one guy is pretty friendly, the other not that friendly. Neither seem to know the hobby too well, I guess that takes time). I drive a 4X4 monster truck, fly a 450 helicopter, and a 600 sized quadcopter. Their parts selection is fairly good for cars and trucks, but I rarely need those. There is NO support for helicopters, and very little for the multirotor hobby. Zero for FPV. This shop is really only good for getting people into the hobbies, with mass produced consumer ready airplane/multirotor products. Don’t count on having a shop that stocks commonly consumed parts when you inevitably crash and need to build back up your craft. You’re better off online. And it breaks my heart to have to say that. Examples: Needed: –Multiple LiPo charger system– only carry single, about 5 varieties. –450 sized rotor blades for helicopter– none whatsoever. Hardly anything for crash rebuild for that matter. –XT60 connectors– never in stock. States that he tries to get everyone off of them in favor of blue eFlite types. C’mon man, they’re the industry standard. Even if you can’t get a price break you still need to stock them to support your community. –Quadcopter props– very limited and uncommon parts only. –Carbon fiber tube– nothing over 1/16″ inch. –Landing gear retracts– I was looking for some $ 10 – 20 servos. Nothing besides an $ 86 kit??? WTH? I hope these guys get their shit together, but I’m so frustrated I don’t plan to stop back any time soon. Sooooo a 1.8 hour round trip to Salt Lake every time I need something and want to support a LHS vs Amazon.

I bought a traxxas truck on Amazon and crashed it. These guys had the parts I needed and were very helpful. I think like anything it depends on who helps you. I went on a Sunday and the guy mentioned he just started working back there to help the owners out. I liked the guy a lot. I’ve never had any interaction with the owners though. They seemed to have a lot of parts for sale.

The store recently came under new management, unfortunately. The previous manager/owner was extremely helpful and had an obvious passion for RC planes and cars. This new manager is not concerned with customer service at all. We bought a $ 300 plane that did not work correctly out of the box. We had to buy a replacement part as he refused to believe the plane wasn’t crashed. We’d only had the thing for a couple hours. After waiting a week for the part to come in we put it in, but had a question about it. He refused to answer the question on the phone so we had to go all the way to the store. He answered the question in about 2 seconds and then wanted to charge $ 25 to put the plane back together. No one else was in the store and it was a 10 minute(maximum) job requiring a small screw driver we didn’t have. That was the 3rd time he tried to charge us $ 25 for a truly simple task. We left. He not only didn’t get $ 25, but also lost a very lucrative customer. I will drive an extra 20 minutes now for decent customer service. Watch out, you may be charged $ 25 for breathing the air in his store.
