Disappointed, sushi and sashimi was just ok. The restaurant itself is nice and really the only sushi option in Riverhead.

This Riverhead Japanese spot has lasted a while. Interior is nice with high ceilings and beautiful art work spread around. The salad was a let down, the dressing seems to be more mayonnaise based and not as flavorful. Sushi rolls are small but the fish is fresh. Sashimi entrée, though fresh, did not come with a side of rice so if you’re not hungry, that’ll be fine. Service is very nice and prices aren’t anything to complain about. An ok spot to come for sushi if you’re in the area.

Good sushi, service is hit or miss. Some of the waiters are attentive, some are definitely not thrilled to be there. Love their udon noodles and the bento box lunches

Haiku is where we go when it’s been a bad week. The low light and soft music start the relaxation. We like to sit near the fish tank, as well. The staff doesn’t say much. They are all business and that is okay; they are friendly and do come when you wave to them. The Rock Shrimp appetizer is a favorite; the sauce is a little zippy and the shrimp is lightly coated. If you get the steamed edamame, you will usually have your sushi/entrees before finishing it. The miso soup is flavorful(tofu, seaweed & scallions) and great on cold, rainy days. If you get the salad, ask for extra dressing; their ginger dressing is nice, but there is usually not enough to coat the lettuce. I am not a fan of iceberg lettuce. I would love to see them change out to mixed greens or romaine. For sushi, we like the smoked ell and avocado rolls, the Boston roll, the Phili roll, the cucumber roll, and the Peter roll. We don’t eat raw fish. My girlfriend, however, says their spicy tuna is divine. I’ll take her word for it. The bento boxes come in three choices: beef negimaki, chicken teriyaki, and sushi. You also get rice, California roll, shrimp shumai, tempura(2 shrimp, and assorted vegetable — zucchini, yam, broccoli). Soup and salad are included. My husband likes the beef teriyaki; he rarely has had chewy or fatty beef here; the rice is not included, you need to order it. They have a lychee lemonade that is very tasty. Other than that, there is no liquor; just green tea and Coke products. This is a nice place to sit and relax over a meal. It is also a good place to start if you are just trying Japanese food for the first time. There are plenty of non-raw options to explore; then if you get a little bolder, the mix and match sushi lunch is the way to go. Enjoy!

The sushi is okay but nothing great. The sushi menu is a little boring. Almost all their special rolls sound the same with spicy tuna/crab etc. Would like to see something a little different like a roll with mango in it. Also, the rolls are quite small even the special rolls and they always seem a bit warm like the rice hasnt cooled enough.

Fantastic! Totally worth the drive from Sag Harbor! I had the miso soup, small garden salad, fried gyoza and the lobster tempura roll. Everything was delicious AND very reasonably priced! I will be back for sure!

Just had dinner here this evening. One of my Unilocal friends highly recommended Haiku to me. I typically eat in another Japanese restaurant in Riverhead that has some challenges. The place is adorable, warm and very inviting. The woman whom seated us was super nice, the type of employee every small independent restaurant wants on their staff. The waiter whom took care of us was not as nice. The patrons in this establishment were all super nice locals; however, the waiter was either having a bad day or it is his demeanor to be this way. Well — regardless we had a good evening. I had the seafood tempura for $ 16 while my Dad(whom eats no fish) had the steak teriyaki for $ 16. I had the house salad to start while Dad had some miso. All good. My tempura was quite delish. Portion was huge, sauce was very good. I cleaned my plate easily. Had two glasses of chardonnay well priced at $ 5 a glass. Solid value for today. I will return for sure.

Got pegged for jury duty out in riverhead. The government gives you 1.5 hours for lunch so I wandered into this joint. I had the lunch special which was 2 rolls and miso soup for $ 8.50. Mikado in lynbrook gives you 2 rolls, choice of miso or clear soup and salad and a little fruit dish after meal all for $ 7.50… I still have yet found a place that gives you value like Mikado. I will say the rolls and miso were great. I also ordered and paid extra for the salad. Ginger dressing was superb. Also ordered sashimi(white tuna and salmon). Both were great. Sushi, excellent. Lunch special 8.50, not so special. I tell it like it is McMahon.

My wife and I love sushi and sashimi and we found this place driving by on Main Street, Riverhead. The reviews were good and I got a good recommendation out on the golf course [yes I play golf in January on Long Island and, clearly others do too]; so we went. Not disappointed but for the fact that they only serve beer and wine for spirits. But the food was fresh and very good! My wife loved the shumai; said: «It’s the best I’ve ever had!» And she has traveled the world looking for good shumai. We’ve been back twice and will probably be back again before the week is out.

The first thing you look for at a restaurant is the entrance and it wasn’t where I thought it would be. I went to the«front» of the place, where an entrance would normally be, but it wasn’t there. I checked the left side of the restaurant and it wasn’t there. I had to look for signs that said«Entrance Here» to find it. When you walk in the door, you see a beautiful place with great ambiance. I wasn’t paying much attention to details because I didn’t have much time. I ordered my food in advance, went to the bathroom and had my plate ready on my table. That’s pretty fast service. Then again, it wasn’t a cooked meal. I always try to get something new, so I ordered a Kani Salad and a Spicy Scallop Avocado Roll. I love scallops, so it must be good! …ANDITWAS! The Spicy Scallop Avocado Roll tasted a little plain, but it depends on your taste. If I’m in the area, I’ll definitely visit again!

Not bad. Actually really good sushi. Broad sake menu(10+ choices) including a couple $ 13 bottles(350ml). Started with a seaweed and a kani salad both of which were excellent starters. Worked our way thru two special rolls and eel sashimi. The«angel roll» was excellent. My husband had another roll with eel which we can’t recall the name of(also mouthwatering). We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi and décor at Haiku. A go to place for sushi in the Peconic River area.

This is a cute little sushi place in the middle of downtown Riverhead. It had three other tables filled besides me at lunch and the young staff were friendly. The ingredients were subpar all around so there is no way there is a four star here. I will say that the few patrons inside seemed very happy. One women kept repeating how delicious everything was to kids that seemed to not really care and just smiled. Iceberg lettuce with a few shaved carrots and a drizzle of the old ginger sauce thing. Two sushi rolls had that horrid chewy seaweed wrap that is either not fresh or the worst quality like I mentioned in the Hicksville Days Inn sushi place. The salmon roll was heinous. and was the lowest of the low… I didn’t know salmon could have layers of jelly like fat in betwen the salmon. Regular color, light pinkish white, regular color, light pinkish white fat… and all gooey not firm. So ok… four stars? lol! drive outside of there and try a good salmon or any roll or salad for heavens sake. When the sweet kid brought my check, I reminded him he forgot to bring over iced water… He looked sheepish. just kids running it. but trying. All in all I was glad to sit down and have anything cool on a hot day and sit by the window looking out.

At first I was skeptic, with such a small hole in the wall place, but it had nice little atmosphere. The menu is a tad limited both for dinner and lunch. Sushi and Sashimi are a tad on the pricey side, but but the fish quality was surprisingly VERY impressive. Mackerel is sweet and salty; cut thick. Salmon melts in your mouth. I also enjoyed how the raw fish trays are presented with an artistic flare(with an orchid!) and ornate cut radishes. It’s a great place to go if you have the cash. Tempura was light and not greasy in the least! The bento lunch boxes are a very good deal and you get a nice fill for your buck

I love this place! My friends are all from up west and even they love it. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. The litchee lemonade is the best drink ever. The service is good but can be slow at times when there are a lot of people there. Sometimes there is only one server, but you don’t wait too long. Sometimes my friends and I will go here several times in one week. Riverhead is certainly becoming a great restaurant town.

Refreshing to go to a sushi restaurant where everything is really delicately sliced and not drenched in spicy mayo. Excellent service and cool décor make for a cool and comfortable setting. Excited that Riverhead has a delicious sushi restaurant that is affordable and good! Needs liquor license!

Went for dinner on a Sat. night. Small one room dimly lit dining area with about a dozen tables and cushioned half booths with a high ceiling with wood beams. Small bar area with about 4 stools looked a little messy at the time .At the time there was one waiter working serving about 7 tables and was a little overwhelmed. I had the crispy calamari with chili sauce. It was very good calamari very tender and crispy and the sauce sweet and not to spicy. For sushi I had an Angel Roll. Seared tuna inside with avocado and eel and tempura flakes on the outside with Japanese mayo .It was ok. I think they went a little to heavy on the mayo, and the tuna did not have much flavor. They also have BYOB so you can save on cocktails. Overall, not so bad dining experience.

If you are in Riverhead and must have sushi then you should visit Haiku. It has a nice atmosphere and the food is tasty. For lunch I usually order their lunch box special with salmon. Enjoy.

Pleasant service in the space that was formerly EastEnders Coffee House. They did a nice job with it, with some Asian instrumental tunes, fish tank, bamboo, etc. 2-roll lunch special for 8.69 left me with an AAC roll & a crunchy spicy white fish roll with a salad on the side. Tasty results but slow service… oh, and sexy clientele eating on on a Friday afternoon, but I took mine to the water.
