I go here every couple of weeks for some sushi and occasionally eat at the hibachi table The Hibachi table –Chefs are always friendly and interactive –Food is always good(usually go for chicken and shrimp combo dinner with the fried rice) –Table itself never feels cramped even when full of people and clean Traditional restaurant side –Waiters and waitresses are usually nice bit of a language barrier –Food quality same as hibachi table always good –Wait times for food isn’t that bad Takeout –Food comes out warm and fresh –same selection as dinner menu My only Complaint about the place is the take out service –Usually have a hard time understanding the person on the phone and sometimes they are rude when trying to order Overall — A solid 4 stars if your on the east end and looking for a nice Japanese dinner look no further personally like this better than Tony’s Asian fusion in mattituck

The food is good. Very clean place and definitely fresh food. But don’t expect pleasant service. Every time I’ve gone the server is completely rude rolling her eyes and just seems like she hates her job. The only reason I’ve been back is in hopes that maybe I just got unlucky the first few times. But nope! So unfortunate… Great food terrible service. All with attitudes!

Been here in the past had a great show at the hibachi the food was great. Tonight the show was short and lacked the luster I’m used to. It was two people’s birthdays at the table and it really didn’t play into the performance. The portion sizes were small and my fried rice was simply white rice with soy sauce and cold. I will not be returning. It was a very big disappointment.

I’ve been here several times both sitting in the restaurant and take out. The food in my experience is worth coming back for. The service on the other hand needs a lot of work. Every time I’ve been here we’ve had an annoying server with a terrible attitude. This includes the hostess which just took my order for take out. She actually rolled her eyes while snapping gum in my face I felt like punk’d. She’s lucky I had a short order or I would have taken my business else where. They’re not willing to make substitutions and anything but friendly. Make sure you know your order before placing it.

Ok so my boyfriend and I just ate lunch here. Ordered two salmon teriyaki lunch hibachi and 2 sushi rolls to share. The food looked ok, there were many disappointments. One is the sauce on the hibachi salmon, was some type of thick sauce… very slimey! The texture of the sauce turned me off my meal, was just disgusting to look at, and the way it kept sliding off my fork, was just awful. The salmon itself was cooked well! Served with mixed veggies and fried rice, which was ok, nothing spectacular. The sushi was ok, again nothing spectacular and the soy sauce was putrid! Left a weird after taste in my mouth. However despite those mishaps, maybe I just came on a bad day, the service was pretty good. Wait staff were attentive, kept refilling out drinks and asking if we needed anything. The restaurant itself is very pretty inside and very clean! The prices are very good! I wouldn’t advise people to come for dinner($$) but their lunch menu prices are very fair and they do give you a lot of food. I however, will not be eating here again.

Who knew that this little gem was here! My friends recommended we go to this restaurant after they had a good experience. I have to start with why I didn’t give them a 5 star, which they kind of deserved-because it was UNBELIEVABLYFREEZINGINSIDE! I mean, it was a cold night, but it was as if they didn’t have heat. You could almost see your breathe! When we all sat through dinner with our coats on, nobody seemed to care. The second negative was that there was an overwhelming smell of gas at the hibachi table… not enjoyable. So, for those two reasons I gave them a 3. If I had to rate the food alone-it was no doubt a 5 star rating. The sushi was outrageously fresh and delicious. Try the red bean soy paper with tuna, it was delicious! The kani salad was light and fresh. The sweetheart roll-OOHHH L A LA — It was so good! The hibachi was not drowning in soy, it was just plain good ingredients cooked well. The best part-the white sauce they serve you to compliment the hibachi. I usually don’t use the sauce, but I have to say it was the wow factor… don’t miss it. I confirmed they call it’ white sauce’…so ask for it even if you don’t have the hibachi, I think it would go with anything! The sake was great, and I can’t wait to go back… in the summer!

I’m updating my review because of most recent experience. I still enjoy the food, but was disappointed with service, but from past experience and other reviews I shouldn’t be surprised. We still had food on our plates and the waiter came over and started stacking our plates! We were all in shock, like«what the @@@@?!» We told him we were still eating and he didn’t even apologize. I’ve never experienced such rude and inconsiderate servers in my life! It’s almost like«no soup for you!» From Seinfeld. I feel like I have to take the abuse if I want good food. Haiku has great servers and great food, but unfortunately they don’t have as much choices for vegetarians. I guess we will just have to suffer and take the abuse :(

I eat here or get take out about 2 times per month. The prices are good and sushi is pretty good. I had hibachi once when they first opened. it was the best hibachi food i had but the servers needed a bit more practice. As stated previously the waitresses are not overly friendly and can come off rude but we know that going it so we dont let it bother us. We often have to tell them several times we need a few more minutes before ordering but i would rather that then having to wait!

Worse experience EVER! We made a reservation for my mother’s birthday, where she really wanted to go. Of the reservation for 11, 6 of us were from out of town. When we arrived, we were greeted by the rudest server I’ve ever encountered. When we asked for a high hair, she said«why?» When some of our party was running late, because it was pouring rain, she demanded to take our drink order. When we said we would wait for the rest of the party, she said no and demanded a drink order by saying«drink now.» While she was gone, the rest of the party arrived, and my sister in law took one of my nieces to the bathroom. When the server came back, she wanted the small girls(under 5 years old) to give a drink order, and when we said we wanted to wait for their mother to return, she said«no, drink now» and then proceeded to bring them what she felt they wanted to drink. Then the table chef arrived, who was slightly inappropriate. Even when people did not want to partake in the shooting of food, liquid, etc into their mouths, he would squirt their face until they agreed. It was problematic because one of our party did not drink alcohol and the table chef kept trying to get him to drink Sake. When he said no on multiple occasions, he squirted him in the face. He also got the order wrong for 3 people, and when he questioned the server, she came over and basically threw food on the table. When I asked for a refill on my iced tea, she said«no, not until you finish what you have.» Basically it was a miserable experience. And the tip was included, so she could have treated us any way she liked and still get a tip. We didn’t even pay her, I went to the hostess to pay and she came up and said«what you doing.» I replied«paying» and she rolled her eyes and walked away. In the famous words of another Unilocal review, «I have one word for this place. Regret. I regret going here and I regret listening to the recommendation.»

Had the fillet mignon and lobster hibaci and it was very good. Hubby had chicken & shrimp hibaci and also very good. Don’t know why people complain about this place. It’s relatively cheap for a good dinner They could be a little more friendly and that would give it 4 stars

Pretty pleased with my experience here. LOCATION: in the shopping center or 25 with the Homegoods store. DECOR: average décor, dark wood tables and booths. Relaxed atmosphere. FOOD: ordered miso soup, shrimp tempura, and spicy California roll. The miso soup was average and tasty. Shrimp tempura and spicy California roll were really good. Very good taste to them, the roll was a little on the small size though. SERVICE: very quick service, waitress brought out our food pretty quickly and the bill was also brought out quickly. The waitress wasn’t the friendliest, but she was average I suppose. Bit of a language barrier between us and her. What’s good about this place was the price of the food and the specials they have. I got those 2 sushi rolls and the miso soup for only $ 9 because it was a lunch special. Really good pricing for all of that food! I would definitely return here for another lunchtime meal.

Delicious hibachi. Clean, fresh sushi. Service was a bit cold. The hostess and waiter didn’t crack a smile the whole night. If the service was friendlier, warmer, I would have given it 4 stars. Food was great. Plentiful. Chef was nice. Shrimp, steak, chicken were cooked to perfection and very flavorful. It was very busy at dinner. Four hibachi tables, sushi bar, and regular seating. Pepsi products.

Tonight was the 4th time I have dined at Sakura. Location is convenient for me when in Riverhead; however, the food is consistently mediocre. Portions are very large. So if you like quantity you’ll be pleased. But if you seek quality there will be some challenges. The chicken teriyaki is ok. Great? No but it is edible. The udon soup with tempura shrimp? Okay again. Tonight may have been my last visit to Sakura. Yes, this is the only Japanese restaurant in Riyerhead. However, this is no excuse for serving mediocre food. Prices are 10 to 15% higher then they should be. Wish there were more Japanese food options in this town.

The food isn’t too bad if you want large portions and don’t mind your Japanese food tasting like decent Chinese takeout. The SERVICEISAPPALLING. When i asked the woman taking my order(for pickup) about an item on the menu, she actually snapped, «Are you talking to me?» I was then told to pick up my food before 9:30 because they were going to close – at 10p. And later, when I called to say we were having car problems and did the restaurant deliver, she said«No, no delivery, WHENYOUGONNACOME?» Me: «Uh, I don’t know, I’m going to try to go as soon a I can.» Her: «You’re gonna TRY?» Thankfully, hubby did make it there by 9:30, just in time to see the woman argue with another customer about a wrong order. Avoid this place at all cost!

3.5 stars. My husband was not so keen on Sakura’s strip mall location in Riverhead, and was about to question my judgement in bringing him here, however we were greatly surprised upon walking in; the restaurant is bright and clean. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. There is a huge Teppanyaki aka Hibachi area which dominates more than half of the restaurant. About ten dining tables on the left and a small sushi bar in the very back of the restaurant. We decided upon a «light» meal of spicy kani salad each, which was excellent and freshly made to order in front of us. I ordered the volcano roll(a fried tempura covered roll) which was excellent. My husband had a few pieces of eel sashimi(excellent) and a roll, which I failed to take note of. The sushi chefs were fantastic. they were feverishly making sushi for both the in-house guests and for the to-go orders. The waitresses are a little on the overly aggressive side as we are starting to see is the unfortunate norm for busy sushi places. Will return for more sushi in the future. Prices are reasonable and quality is good.

I stop here whenever I’m out by Riverhead — Teppanyaki grills on one side — dining tables on the other. Excellent lunch special values. Really good seafood soup. I have only come at lunch time and have taken-out, I would like to sit at the teppanyaki tables sometime. We had kitchen prepared hibachi and it was delicious, tender and PLENTIFUL !! The sushi was excellent quality. They have soy paper available for those who prefer.
