Riverside Barber Shop

I meant to write this review months ago… that being said my review is dated. I went there while I was on emergency leave from the military to visit my dying grandfather. These two guys were amazing. I have never had such a positive experience at a barber shop. Their cut was perfect and they styled it exactly as I asked. I didn’t have a single issue with them. I wish we had a place like this in kansas, next time I am in Chicago I will definitely visit them again. Thank you guys for the great haircut and for being so kind to me given the circumstances.

Like many men, for years I went to generic salons or worse, «hair studios»… barber shops are not big and flashy and certainly do not advertise to the public, so you don’t really think about them, know where they are, or sometimes think they don’t want you to come in.
If you’re a professional or need to look good for an occasion, you must take your appearance seriously and therefore, going to a salon will be a huge mistake because you’ll look like your mother is still cutting your hair!
Angelo and his son — are hands-​down the absolute best in this area and for their price. They listen to you, if you want something done differently, but for the most part — their job is to make you look good and that will mean not making the hair on top of your head disproportionate to the sides, so don’t expect to tell them exactly how to cut your hair.
They always ask, how do you like it, don’t be afraid to say, I want my sideburns shorter, or the back needs this or that. They want you to be happy. I always get the straight razor for my neck and by my ears to it will last longer.
The biggest difference you will notice on every man is if they have a straight line chopped in the back of their necks or a smooth transition that only a barber can provide. Once you see this, you will wonder why any man would let a «beautician» touch his head.
One other suggestion, do yourself a favor and shave with a safety razor and real shave cream. I pay less than a quarter for razors and they are sharper and last a lot longer and I never break-​out like I did with the mega ten blade foil razors aka «mach 5».

As mentioned in a previous review, this barber «knows what you want,» regardless of whether or not you agree with him. He’s capable of giving a decent cut (when he’s in the shop and not in Florida, that is), but you’ve got to argue with him. Apparently he got tired of my overriding his objections on how to cut my hair because the last time he really butchered my head.
And it will definitely be the last time I sit in that chair.

This place is across the tracks from the train station across from Riverside Garage. This is a typical barbershop which is what I was looking for. My regular barber closed down and so I was in a bind. Angelo is from Milan, Italy. Good conversation and skilled barber. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars Is because my sideburns weren’t even on both sides. Otherwise a great place without the pretentious salon atmosphere. I would also like for him to clean me up with a razor which he didnt do, but this is my first time there.
Also the price on Saturdays goes up to $ 20 from $ 18 during the week.
