Very bland but SOMUCHFOOD! I have had way better chinese food. Even the sauces were tasteless. Will not go to this one again.

This place is by far the WORST Chinese food I have ever eaten. Where to begin? I had been eating there for 30 years, many years ago that stopped due to quality of food becoming so poor it was inedible. We decided to try it again after a long hiatus. What a mistake. We arrived for early dinner, we had to get the attention of the two small children, apparently working front of the house who were enthrawled with watching cartoons. We were seated, a very nice waitress took our orders. Soup arrived. That was fine. Egg roll, again, fine. Then the entrees arrived. Almond Chicken was leftover from the night before. It had been deep fried twice, dried out, over browned and the ends were like peanut brittle. And I find it very odd they put beef based gravy on chicken. The rice was at least a day old. It was dry, had a musty taste and it was slightly crunchy. The sweet and sour sauce is from a can. Which is expected in an Americanized Chineses restaurant, however is was so condensed it was as thick as petrolium jelly. One in our party literally vomited at the table. As we were leaving, business was picking up. Small child #1 was answering the phone, taking orders and cashing customers out. Small child #2 was bringing out take out orders… in between catching glimpses of above mentioned cartoon. The only adult we saw was our waitress, who by the way was waiting on all the tables. Good luck if you decide to try this place and bring your own barf bags.

They’d get 5 stars but I swear when you place an order the woman ALWAYS says 15 minutes and it’s NEVER15 minutes. Add no less than 10 minutes to your order. Décor needs work and the wait sucks ass but for the most part the good is good and reasonably priced.

I was recently visiting from out of town and went to the Chopstick Inn. I had been many years ago and found the place to be pleasant and the food to be good. Times have certainly changed. The soup was great and the egg roll was delicious, but the main dish ‘spicy Thai noodle’ was not Thai or spicy. In fact it was quite bland and the tofu I ordered was not edible. When I brought this to the servers attention she simply dismissed me and said«that is how it is supposed to taste.» I kindly replied that«no something is wrong with your tofu». She would not budge and told me that the«chicken one tastes better». Ok but I’m a vegetarian. Needless to say she didn’t even offer to take it off the bill or make a new dish. I would not recommend this place for Asian cuisine.

Went on Unilocal to find a decent chinese place, there were bodies inside so I was hopeful, normally no one sitting inside a chinese restraunt… carry out! I got sashuzan chicken… it was fine, no rave, just ok, hubby got chow mein, he liked it… yes the egg rolls are good, and hubby like the beer ;-), we’ll be back!

I have been spoiled for life by Chopstick Inn. I can’t eat Chinese food anywhere else, it always pales in comparison. Everything is good, service is fast, and the owners, the Wongs, are some of the nicest people ever. Highly recommend!

I have been coming here since I was a small child — and my parents both came here as teenagers. This place is a staple for me when I come back home to visit. Some of my favorite Chinese food ever. Love it and love the people that work here. Moo Goo Gai Pan, fried rice, chinese vegetable soup, and the egg rolls. I travel to Michigan to visit family and this is a must to come to each time.

Not much to say. Run of the mill Chinese joint. Hot, fresh food. All the Cantonese specialties.

I «ate» here in mid December. This is exactly what I expected from a downriver Michigan American-Chinese restaurant. Even if you haven’t had quality Chinese cuisine, you’d know this place is terrible. Save yourself the disappointment and look up the closest Panda Express for American-Chinese. Hell, I hate Pei Wei b/c the meals taste synthetic and the flavors are all off, but I’d even suggest you go there, take out your money, then throw it in the garbage can. Don’t order any food, just throw your money in the trash. You’ll be better off. I can’t fathom anyone giving this place 4 – 5 stars. 2 stars because the tea was hot and the fortune cookies weren’t stale.

I am writing an update because, though I still like this place, I feel my last few visits have been lackluster. This last time, my Vegetable Lo Mein had NO flavor. None, Zilch, Zip! I was beyond disappointed. My egg roll was a bit overcooked as well. The Crab Rangoon was made well but that was about it. They still have great service and I will go back. I just feel that lately, they are playing it too safe with spices. In turn, their food has become a bit boring. Hopefully, they will read this and get back in the game.

Living in the Downriver area of Michigan, I have seen many of our local long-time benchmark restaurants go the way of the West wind in the past few years. Places I either grew up with or enjoyed all the way through my first marriage – and into my second. There is nothing worse than the empty feeling one gets when driving past a building that was a thriving business until sometime last week. Enter Chopstick Inn. Same location for decades. Solid, and real. Unassuming curb appeal. The décor is dark leftover Mediterranean wood and wall fixtures from the ’70’s, clean and well-maintained. The usual Chinese lanterns and pictures grace the walls, but you won’t have to pay much attention to those because once the food arrives, you will be lost in bliss. And, on to the food. Oh, the FOOD! I love to start off with soup, and at Chopstick Inn you can get your soup in several different serving sizes. A bit unusual, and I love that. The egg drop soup is not too salty, not too thick, not too thin. Perfect – and it comes out with fried wonton. The egg rolls are fresh and crispy like they were just pulled out of the deep fryer fifteen seconds earlier. They are large and flavorful, with plenty of bean sprouts in them for added crunch. Plum sauce comes to you in a small bowl and has a lovely zigzag of hot mustard adorning the rim, so dip away! The other side of the table had the pan-fried dumplings and they were amazing. Fresh, and filled with ground, seasoned pork. They looked handmade and tasted like heaven. They came out with a spicy dipping sauce. I had the fried shrimp appetizer tonight, large battered shrimp with a side of plum sauce. Crispy, freshly made and tasty. Now, when your entrée comes out, try not to be shocked but the portion sizes are very large. This is not a complaint by me at all. I love a good tuck-in of comfort food, even if I know as I pick up my fork that I will be taking at least half of it home. The almond chicken is my favorite here. And tonight, the entrée on the other side of the table was sweet and sour chicken with bite-sized bits of battered chicken in a sauce that was a nice blending of the two flavors with some fruit in it. He said it was very fresh, hot and tangy enough that he didn’t want to stop eating it. We have never had lunch or take-out here. The restaurant is an intimate size, but there are several larger tables that can seat your large group. They have no specific kids menu, and there are vast choices available – some are familiar and some are not, but you should be able to find something here to eat, even if you are not overly fond of American Chinese food. They have dinner for two, three, four, five and six in the family style dinner section. There is a full bar with the usual 1950’s-sounding drinks on the menu. The service at Chopstick Inn is quick and personable. You won’t wait forever for someone to bring you a refill on your hot tea or your cold beverage. There are no televisions, or Wi-Fi. And mostly what you will be listening to while you dine is the sound of forks hitting plates. I love dining here because it is relaxing and quiet. And you won’t go broke here, either. And sometimes that is what it is about.

This is probably my favorite American-style Chinese restaurant. It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten in the dining room, so my review is mostly based on takeout, which is ready quickly, generally 15 minutes or less. As with most Chinese restaurants, the quantity is huge. You can easily get 3 generous servings out of less than $ 15 worth of food. Where this place shines over other similar Chinese restaurants is the quality. Almond chicken is made with an entire boneless chicken breast, not tiny little scraps that end up being more batter than chicken. The sauce has chunks of water chestnuts and sliced green onion. The egg rolls have shrimp and bean sprouts in them and they serve it with their own sauce rather than the typical packet of duck sauce.

Hands down my favorite place to get Chinese. The actual building is shabby on the outside, but inside it’s always pristine and the staff are very friendly. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and one of the things that I loved the most about it was that not only was I getting great food, I was also getting a great experience. I know some Unilocalers have said that their experience at the Chopstick Inn wasn’t good — but I can say that that is not the norm. When I was a high school or college student, sitting with other students, paying with crumpled bills and sitting for a long time just talking, I still got great service. The chicken rice soup is amazing, but I also love the sesame chicken and the almond chicken. Their egg rolls are delicious — and thank god they don’t put any broccoli in them! And the portions are huge. I always have at least 2 or 3 days’ worth of leftovers any time that I go. The only way that they could be better would be if they delivered.

Ordered carryout on the lunch menu. Very small portions, but worst of all the general tao’s chicken I orered was disgusting. Small pieces of chicken soaked in a thick slimy too sweet brown sauce. Chicken fried rice, more like soybean fried rice was completely flavorless. The consistency of the sauce on the chicken was so wired, I couldn’t finish it. I feel like I wasted my lunch money lol seriously.

Been going here for years. Although I mostly get carry out. Big fan of almost everything here. The thing that separates Chopstick though for me is the egg rolls. Just wish they had delivery!

Although the egg roll and my general tao’s chicken was pretty good, it was a little pricey, and the prices that came on the final bill were different from the prices that came on menu. The other two people who ate with me told me there meals were just ok, nothing spectacular. Service was a little below average and the knowledge of their menu was lacking. We also asked for a beef gravy for the vegetable lowmein and were told they didn’t have anything like that except the table next too us who got beef lowmein ended up with a beef gravy. I think we’ll find some other place to dine next time.

I got the almond boneless chicken and honestly it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary chinese restaurant fare. If you are in the need for some chinese take out and you live in the area then go ahead but don’t go out of your way to eat here. Probably one of my favorite places to eat. Great service, giant portions, hot food, reasonable pricing. My favorite thing here is the egg rolls! They make them freah to order and they are served sizzling with a generous portion of plum sauce/hot mustard. The filling is bean sprouts with shrimp, not cheap cabbage fillers. Really a treat!
