In Roanoke we have Kabuki. We have Ichi Ban. And we have Kobe. Each of these offers abundant portions cooked before your eyes. Unlike Kabuki and Ichi Ban, which tend to over-season the food, Kobe’s food quality is a step above the others. Kobe is a small restaurant located in southwestern Roanoke county — just around the corner from our home. While Kabuki and Ichi Ban are popular venues for birthday and other celebrations, the atmosphere in Kobe is a bit more subdued. My norm at these spots is the filet and scallops. Served with fried rice, veggies, and appetizer shrimp, Kobe offers ample portions that are better seasoned than the offerings of their counterparts. The filet was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the scallops were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, there is no wine list to speak of, but a glass of house wine(California) is $ 3.95. Nothing fancy, but acceptable nonetheless. My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner and enjoyed our conversation with the out-of-town visitors sitting with us. Both of us had dinner and two glasses of wine, and our total check, including tip, was about $ 60. Not bad.
