Love Macadoos! I love the Johnny Dee… it’s my favorite. Quesadillas are good too. Great place to go with friends or family. If you have small kids and it’s late don’t sit in the bar area though… too loud. Every where else the seating is fine.

I’ve been to this Macado’s on many visits to Roanoke. They specialize in sandwiches of every sort. Access to the restaurant is on the left side of the building on the 2nd floor. There are steps up the side if you happened to park in front of the building but there is an additional lot in the back of the building. The sandwich menu is huge so take some time to read through the options. On this visit I had the McDuffy which is described as breaded chicken breast, smoked bacon, avocado, mayo, lettuce, tomato, swiss on a sweet sourdough roll. It came with my choice of side and I went with potato salad. The flavors were wonderful. I especially enjoyed the potato salad and the price and portion size were spot on. Definitely affordable here. The one downside is the lack of craft beer tap options. They had one local and it changed while I was there. It was an ok beer from Parkway brewing which is still better than the AB options but they could definitely improve on their selection. The staff was ok here. The order took a long time to come out but I didn’t see how busy they were in other parts of the restaurant. In the bar area it was not very busy. Still, I’ll make an effort to hit Macado’s again on my next visit to Roanoke.

SLOWASMOLASSES. Every aspect of our lunch took forever. Food was good but it took forever to get it. Server said that someone dropped our food so they had to remake it, which is obviously preferred but it just took so long to make 3 deli sandwiches.

I am a big fan of «bar food» and I was led to believe that Macado’s had some of the best! Wrong! For lunch, we ordered a basket of French fries after reading the Roanoke paper touting Macado’s as having the«best fries in the city!» Wrong! They tasted like cold Ore Ida fries. We also ordered a basket of chicken wings… heavily battered and dry with horrible tasting barbecue sauce… I’ve never left wings on a plate! And, I ate the worse shrimp tacos of my life… heavily battered… couldn’t find the shrimp… cold and stale soft taco shell with slice of avocado and bad wasabi sauce! Left also on my plate! Will never return!

Was told by some locals that this was the spot… Lost faith in Roanoke«locals» afterwards. My wife and I experienced the worst service on an apparent off night(3 tables). Ordered burgers… they asked how we wanted them but apparently didn’t listen as they were charred well past medium and into the death realm. Look. If your beef is so subpar you need to kill all of the diseases, then don’t ask how I want my burger. I’ve been to Roanoke enough times to eat well… never again here. Embarrassing.

Visited in a Friday night and were greeted and seated immediately. Our server came by and got both our drink and meal order. I got my normal Julius Caesar with ranch on the side and chips and my niece ordered a sandwich as well. Our meal was delivered a short time later and was absolutely delicious as always! Everyone was extremely nice and our server was very attentive throughout the meal which was nice… However, after we finished our meal we did not see our server for a good fifteen minutes then when we finally saw him again we had to ask for our check. Disappointed in the service at the end but the food is great especially if you are craving a sandwich… Hopefully the next time I go back the service will be better.

Went there for dinner several days ago. Waited several minutes for someone to show up at the front to seat us. Sat us at a table, which was so sticky! Probably from cleaning product residue! Not sure, floor was very sticky too. I ordered tea for myself, my husband asked for a beer on draft list, waitress had no idea, then pulled out a card. He ordered a Sam Adams, waitress didn’t tell him it was the summer pale ale. Ugh! He drank maybe a quarter. Paid for drinks and left. On our way out there were 2 people just sitting on the steps smoking cigs. Not sure why, as there is a smoking patio just a few feet from where they were, but we had to detour around them just to leave! If you a want a horrible experience go here. Sorry, we tried the Macado’s in Marion, VA. It was so nice. Thought this place would’ve been good too. Boy were we wrong. This place— RUN far far away!!!

Dining with folks who are all over the place with their taste buds? If so, this is a great place to visit as there are a variety of meal options. I’m an all over the map when it comes to figuring out what I want to eat. I ended up ordering a Turkey on Croissant sandwich(forgot the cool name), but it was delish. Just what my taste buds ordered! My colleague ordered a burger and it looked yum yum. She said it was good. If you’ve read my reviews you know burger is usually my go to when all else fails or just because that’s what I want! That being said I’m definitely going for a burger on the next go round.

Glad I didn’t listen to the other reviews on this one. This place is what it is — a good sandwich shop. I had the Big Jazz and it was awesome. I tried the boneless wings on the suggestion of another reviewer, and was pleasantly surprised. Usually I’m not a fan of boneless wings because they end up being mostly breading. Not the case here! Meaty and just the right amount of crunch. The service wasn’t bad, but that may be because it wasn’t too busy on a Tuesday night. Regardless, I did not experience the horrible service others have. I would return if I was in the area again.

Great iconic place to eat. Sometimes the service is sketchy but the food and drink prices are great. Anyone who goes to college around here loves coming back to the area and coming to macados is one of the first stops!

I got the big city jazz. Was delicious. Waitress was nice but had to listen 2 other ladies who worked there were at hostess desk complain about big parties being an inconvenience and not getting enough tables. Should probably do that at the back not where your customers can hear.

I used to visit Macado’s often, but there are so many other choices now. But I will start coming back, they are consistent, I get the Mona Lisa often and it’s the same as it was 15 years ago, very, very good.

I’ve always been able to count on Macado’s as a place to be able to get a good sandwich at a reasonable price. They offer good specials throughout the week, and my favorite is the Mexican specials on Wednesday nights. For sandwiches, I’d recommend the Tonto, Mona Lisa, Julius Caesar, and Honeymooner. The cheese fries are a great option as an appetizer.

Great food, great prices, but most of all great drinks! Wonderful place to get a bite with some friends or to just come watch the game with the fellas. Strongly recommend this place.

Macado’s is the place I miss the most after moving out of Roanoke. I always got something different and it was always really good. I love the potato salad, although it does taste different every time I get it. It’s a great place to grab a drink too. Most of the staff is friendly. The only problems I’ve had is that when you first walk in, there is rarely ever someone standing there to seat you, so you have to wait for the right person to notice you. And I once had to wait entirely too long for my food when the place was at its slowest… but that’s okay, things happen. They have great specials throughout the week. I recommend the black bean queso for an app, or the irish nachos. The sandwiches are my favorite, and just the way I like them… thinly sliced and piled high! The décor is awfully cheesy, but so are most places in Roanoke. If you haven’t been, you MUST go!

I lived in Roanoke for the first 22 years of my life and Macado’s was my favorite place to go. When I waited tables just out of college my co-workers and I used to come eat here after our Saturday shifts at around 11pm. I love their chili cheese fries. This place has a pretty popular bar(I don’t drink so I never sat over there) where if you order specialty drinks you’ll get a Macado’s hurricane glass to bring home or, during holidays like Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day a holiday beer glass. They’re cute and I have a ton at home. My favorite sandwich is the Mona Lisa which has salami, ham, provolone, pepperoni, balsamic vinaigrette, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, served hot on French bread comes with chips and a pickle(pulled this from their online menu since I couldn’t remember everything it has). But I also like the honeymooner with ham, melted Swiss, bacon, and tomato, on a hot croissant and a tuna salad sandwich on a toasted roll that I can’t remember or find the name of now. They have tons of sodas and drinks and a load of sandwiches but they also have wraps and burgers and pasta and good desserts. Basically the menu is huge but the fresh sandwiches are the best part. Every time I go home to see family and friends there is a trip to Macado’s on the books. It’s a must. Mmmmm. Service isn’t always stellar because they tend to get really busy on weekends but as a regular I know it and expect it — I never go when I’m in a huge hurry to get the bill or pay so I’m fine with it. Prices are reasonable since this is pub/bar type food.

This place is one of the things I miss about Virginia. I have been to Macado’s too many times to count. I will say that the service always leaves much to be desired. I can honestly say that I’ve never been impressed with the service. But the food is awesome. I don’t care what anyone says, I love the sandwiches, nachos, desserts… All of it. I will always go to Macado’s when I come back to the valley.
