Skate Center of Roanoke Valley

This is the second time I’ve been to this skate center for a birthday party. I would rate the peripheral infrastructure with 2 stars. The owners put the money into the core things like the rink and the sound system. The bathrooms are not very good. The kids zone area also shows signs of wear and tear.
Kids will have a good time here, but it must be a labor of love for the owners.
It is shabby and the entire facility could use a makeover.
The staff were friendly and helpful hence the overall rating of 3 stars. After all if the kids have fun and the staff is friendly that is more than half the battle.

Oh wow, this place was a surprise. I haven’t been in here for 20 years. I took my daughter to a birthday party and my how things have changed. Not only is there a great place to roller skate but they have also added a very extensive play zone for little kids. Including a joust, rock wall, and levels on top of levels of fun things for them to do 30 feet above you. With a really cool zip line that is designed for 3 – 6 year olds.
The birthday party itself was in a separate room and the skate center provided cake and pizza which was a big hit with the kids. Before I get into my next paragraph the kids had a WONDERFUL time.
I did have a few setbacks with the staff however. FIRST, there was a very large lady milling around the play zone trying to confirm that each child had the required wrist band. Her politics were very poor in this regard. While she was trying to be polite it was easy to tell that she was very fake about it. She continued to sit there and yell «Don’t throw the balls» about every 2 mins. The balls weren’t going to hurt anyone nor would they be able to throw them out of the netted ball pit. Sometimes you just have to let kids play. THEN, a little boy peed in the balls near the slide and instead of doing the proper thing of closing off the pit and cleaning ALL the balls and the area they simply removed a few from the «pee» zone and cleaned those. A very high probability of urine remained and still most likely does. Ball pits in general are disgusting. I would remove it altogether and replace them with a really bouncy floor. But that is just me.
Even with these issues, I would take her back and probably will. She had a great day with her friends.
