If you like stained carpet and old, dark, cramped, dingy rooms, then this is the place for you! Also, if you enjoy not having access to the majority of the resort most days due to weddings in the MAIN lobby and surrounding areas… then you will love it here! Seriously, this is terrible… run!!! the facilities are old and lacking. The activities center is ridiculous! I have never seen a miniature golf course inside that looks so home made and ridiculous! The arcade is filled with machines that do not work and staff who will not refund your money. The paddle boats are old and do not function. Event he staff will tell you at the pool area, yea they are really ol and bad! The restaurants on site are absolutely terrible! Especially the buffet for breakfast at Stillwaters! The pancakes, rolls and other items were inedible. hard as a rock… honestly this is not an exaggeration! Pretty surroundings, but honestly the worst stay in a hotel that I have ever had! I felt so blessed to be back home after leaving! I will never, ever go to this resort… again!

My wife and I went there for our 35th anniversary. Mother nature played a trick on us as we has snow squalls in the middle of April. Our contention was that with outdoor activities being limited by the weather, we were pretty much sequestered to the indoors. Unbeknownst to us, that the resort had scheduled 2 back to back weddings in their main lobby. This made all the common space not accessible for the majority of visit. Additionally, we inquired about the times and reservation for their lake cruise and were informed that it was shut down until later this month. I had confirmed its availability when I called and booked our stay. Having nothing to do and very limited places to go within the resort because of the weddings and the preparation for them, we either stayed in our room or ventured to the local areas. Had I known that this would be the only viable activity available to us, we could had stayed at a much less expensive lodging. Additionally, being charged $ 15 per day for a resort fee was ludicrous! I complained to the front desk and they removed that from my bill. Being a member of AAA I usually use their rating system as a guided and felt comfortable planning our weekend with a 4 diamond rated facility. Our room was no different that what you would find at a Days inn or Motel 6. The bathroom tile had mold growing on the grout, the sofa was turn and worn on the arms to the point where the foam was poking through and the bed was one of the most uncomfortable ones I ‘ve ever slept on. Getting down to the restaurants was another story. How can you call your friday night«fish Buffet» when there is only one fish presented. In our case it was cajun catfish which was so spicy it was difficult to eat a second bite! The wait staff was hit or miss. Some were extremely nice and then there was«Dale»… my wife was mad that I even left him a tip, for the arrogance he displayed toward us. The restaurant at the golf course was closed for the season, and the bar was packed with people attending the various weddings. It should have been pointed out to us that the resort was going to taken over by these weddings and that some of the resort amenities would not be available. Knowing this situation, I would not have scheduled our visit for this time and deferred it to another time. When I originally scheduled this visit, I was told the total price for one each day was a certain amount and when I got there a different amount was presented. They had no evidence of the amount I was told. Additionally, I specifically asked if there were any other fees that I would incur and I was told there would not be any. Dont go there for the food… it’s nothing to speak of Dont believe the price you are quoted when you reserve your stay, if you want to do anything, it becomes ala a cart Do consider staying at a less expensive place in Weston or Clarksburg that may provide more comfortable lodging and Do visit the lake, it is very pretty!

Well, the past two nights we spent at Stonewall lake… this is our review… gorgeous setting at our private lake house, with that being said, the beds, pillows and blankets were horrible… we got 4 hours of sleep last night. and the only reason we slept, was because of sheer exhaustion from our first night here… won’t be going back or recommending it for rest!!! Upon check out at 645am, we were not even asked how our stay was… maybe they already knew?

Had a great stay here, was impressed with the excellent customer service and surprisingly good food. Check in and check out couldn’t have been easier. I ordered room service twice and the food was delivered in a timely fashion and tasted delicious. Most places you expect to see basic things on the menu like hamburger, hot dog, etc. So it was nice to see more interesting dishes listed, like steak and ale soup, chicken and waffles, and creamy crab and corn chowder. I enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the crackling wood burning fireplace, the heated pool, the in-house spa, and homey lobby area. My only complaint really is about the bed… I woke up sore each morning because the mattress was hard as a rock.

The only reason this isn’t a 1-star rating is because the staff did do an excellent job in TRYING to rectify several issues. I was leaning toward a 3, but just couldn’t rank it there. The staff was great(kudos to the manager Bill) and the atmosphere(the lodge and grounds) was spectacular. The food at the restaurants was also above average. With that said, all of it couldn’t make up for many issues throughout the weekend. A small group of us(married couples) thought this might be a nice late-fall getaway… With it being somewhat«off-season», we figured peaceful tranquility. We booked about 6 weeks in advance, with the request of keeping our rooms close… We were told that wouldn’t be a problem. When we checked in, we found that one couple was on the opposite side of the lodge… Requiring a long walk to elevators, to the lobby, to the other set of elevators, then back up to the same floor, so they could access the opposite wing. That wasn’t really a big issue. However, also upon our arrival, we found many pre-teens and teens running through the lobby. When we inquired as to the event, we were told that approx. 400 kids were staying there, throughout the weekend, for a teen-related conference… We’ve stayed at hotels before where school bands or cheer/dance teams have been booked and have had no issues, so we figured it would be well chaperoned. At 11pm, when the doors were still slamming and kids were yelling, we realized that wasn’t the case. We were mainly upset because no staff had called prior to our arrival, informing us of the event… Even staff agreed with us that we should have been notified. The pool and hot tub were unusable… At least for normal use, as it was more like a public pool in the middle of the summer. Regardless, we were still determined to have a good time. The next day, staff was able to move the«secluded» couple to a room closer to the others. When they entered that room(which was the«last available»), it was almost 90° and the HVAC was not working. After the on-site engineer looked at it, it was determined that an electrician was needed. REALLY? Again, we persevered… Until we learned that the curfew for kids on Saturday night was an hour later. That meant even an hour more of banging and yelling. We were assured by staff that, due to a multiple of other complaints, the local sheriffs were going to be on hand for added security… NOPE, still kids running around after«curfew»… Knocking on each of our doors several times. Besides, I’m sure the sheriffs had better things to do than walk the hallways of a «resort». Even before the weekend arrived, staff should have done a better job in grouping the kids in their own area. The aggravation and time consumed dealing with the kids and the staff took away from our time enjoying the atmosphere. If everything had been perfect, this resort MAY have received a 4 ½ rating. As a recommendation, for future bookings, there would definitely be more activities during a summer stay. A final word: if you plan a stay here, call ahead of time and make sure there are no large«kid-conferences».

The resort is very nice. The Golf Pro, on the other hand, is AWFUL! Our company had a fundraiser there benefitting Children’s Hospitals of West Virginia and not only were they extremely unorganized but the«Pro» was the least bit accommodating for anything. Sponsored holes that the Hole in One of America sets the rules as to where the prizes have to be he would not allow it… So technically if someone got a hole in one they actually didn’t win because the resort didn’t conform to the rules. Also, they refused to bring the witnesses at each hole chairs saying our company should have planned ahead for that. Really? Because they just spend several hundred thousand dollars here for 240 employees to golf and stay all weekend and you can’t bring folding chairs for the people standing out there for 12 hours. POORPOOR Customer service on the golf end. Visit the resort but God help you if you plan on golfing.

Have visited this place about 4 times in the past few years. The staff is lovely. The kids live the indoor/outdoor pool. The Stillwater staff handled my husband’s allergies deliciously.

A beautiful course, but I am just appalled by the horrible customer service given to the golfers and supporters of the charity golf outing! The Pro at the Arnold Palmer Golf Course is an absolute a jerk! No support whatsoever for the partners of this event. Event members of the hosting company are absolutely taken back my the lack of hospitality! I guess these days and times these people don’t need business!

Nice resort, we had a family reunion and the outdoor activities were great. But the resort loses a star for being named after a Confederate General. I know he was born locally, but West Virginia was with the Union during the Civil War?! He was a local boy that went bad. The name makes staying there feel a bit awkward, renaming time West Virgina!

It’s a beautiful resort, but they have just«ok» food, which sometimes takes a long time to receive. For example, an order of just fries took 30 minutes to receive. Be prepared as some staff are absolutely wonderful and some are rude. For example I paid my $ 10 check with a $ 20. After not receiving my change back after five minutes, I asked about getting my change back. He angrily scolded me for not telling them I needed change. Confused??? I was.

Beautiful Arnold Palmer golf course. Always well maintained tucked away in WV mountains. You will almost always see deer and other wildlife while playing. It’s a course you will look forward to coming back to.

This is my third trip to Stonewall in the last couple of years. We return for the golf course. I give it five stars. Everything else is three at best. The hotel rooms are very dated. The food is extremely mediocre. We have tried all the restaurants available here and find the food unexciting and lacking in flavor. I am gluten free and the options are not plentiful. When I ask the staff about options they really have no idea about gluten free options, even though they advertise gluten free on the Stillwaters menu. The spa … I have used it twice. The two gals that do mani/pedis are great! The massage rooms are super small and there is nothing«resort like» about them. I have only had one massage here and will never get another one. The outdoor scenery is beautiful at Stonewall. I wish there was another hotel handy to use when we come to play golf, but there isn’t so we stay here. If you can stop at Stonewall for a round of golf and move on down the road, do it!!!

Very nice library and staff is very nice, views are amazing. Free wifi, business center is great– no virus on computer easy to use and fast to print. Great water view. The woman who did my facial left the room during the facial for about 10 minutes, also she was an avid smoker. I kept imaging her smokey hands all over my face. This facility is not handicapped friendly. Need concrete paths around for handicapped and baby strollers. There are mud/dirt paths all along the property. Minor issues: Baseboards in our hotel room were very dirty, clock constantly had wrong time, tile in shower desperately needed caulking. Also, in the massage room, the wall is next to indoor pool– very loud. Wall easily impenetrable with sound.

The Stonewall Resort is a beautiful and relaxing getaway, tucked in the hills of West Virginia. My staff and I very much enjoyed the impeccable accommodations and absolutely delicious food during our stay. The resort truly provides the«Hometown Hospitality» it promises.

The last I visited here was in 2011 and things have really improved. Their amenities are more reflectant of the price, the dinner food has found their niche and is very fresh and delicious, and I would be honored for this place to represent WV. My favorite thing about this resort is that kayaking, canoing, paddle boats, bikes and fishing lines are all able to be checked out for no extra fee to those staying at the resort. The breakfast is horrible and greasy, though. I’d advise traveling to Weston to McDonald’s to get a less greasy breakfast.(that’s a sentence I never thought I would say).

Had an overall OK time here recently. On the positive side, the hiking, biking, swimming and golfing were all fun, especially the golf course which was top notch. The staff was all extremely polite and helpful across the board. On the negative side, the the hallway to our room on the first floor had an odd odor the entire stay, the showers haven’t been update since it seems the 70’s, and the food was mostly forgettable. Also, if you visit out of season the amount to do in the area disminishes quickly.

Boy and I came here for a long weekend to relax, and we did! Our room was one the first floor near the pool, and initially we worried about the noise — luckily, we never once had a problem with it! The pool and hot tubs were pleasant even with temps in the 60s, and they overlook a gorgeous mountain view. Cornhole sets are set up somewhat randomly and right outside of guest rooms(including ours). No one ever seemed to be playing, but management should consider moving them. We participated in the free bike rides and paddle boats, and they had a complimentary hayride which was probably fun for kids, but nothing exciting. There was a relaxed pace and plenty to so, so we really enjoyed it. The only reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars from me is the food. I appreciate they have a(very limited) gluten free menu, but everything was sort of blah. Boy rated everything he ate a 5⁄10. We got complimentary breakfast buffet menus, but it’s nothing fantastic. Since there’s nowhere close enough to drive for food, you’re stuck with mediocre meals for your stay(we packed plenty of snacks!). Overall, friendly staff and plenty of activity — I definitely recommend for families or anyone looking to get away and slow down.

This has become a family tradition when I return home to Clarksburg. We usually do our holiday dinner at the restaurant here. The Stonewall is impressive, I’ve never stayed here but the place looks beautiful. The buffet is stunning with seafood, sometimes a whole smoked salmon, peel and eat shrimp, oysters on half shell, smoked and cured meats, cheeses, olives, carved meats and everything else you expect to find on a buffet. The desserts usually a couple of pies, truffles, nuts, cakes, pudding, and such. Drinks are separate but you can always drink water.

The accommodations were great! The hostesses in the bar and restaurant went out of their way! Knocks…came late in season to golf and felt like we got«BAIT and SWITCHED». When we expressed concerns, the attitude was like«well, whatever». In addition, it took forever for us to get checked-in…well after the check-in time. I would give it a 2.5 but cant… so 2 stars only… can’t go 3.
