The 4 star reviews must be for some other restaurant. Cold, unseasonably ingredients put into a hot pot. Told to stir to cook the rgg. I’ve had this at other restaurants and this was the worst. There was a piece of wood my partner’s food. Waitress wanted to examine his chopsticks to see if he had broken it into the bowl. Also lunch menu prices not on weekends.

Great restaurant. I had the stone bowl which came with some side dishes and a cup of miso soup. The service was great, it was a nice cool, pleasantly lit place on a hot summer day, and the prices are very reasonably. I’ll go back when I’m in the area.

How in the world did this place get four stars? We ordered a seafood pancake(Pajun) and when we asked for the dipping sauce we were directed to use the soy sauce on the table… And the Pajun… Instant Pajun would have tasted better.

I was surprised at how spacious the restaurant actually is, since it looked a bit like a small hole-in-the-wall from the outside. Service was friendly, but not super fast. It seemed like there was maybe only one server for five or six tables. We had the bibimbap, and it was delicious!

It may look like a dive but the food is really good! One of my Korean co-workers recommended this place so I joined 12 Japanese guys and one other American here for dinner. From the outside the restaurant looked bad. It is located in a run down strip mall along with several seedy shops. Once inside there is not much improvement. Don’t let the looks bother you though. If you have made it this far you are in for a good time. In the tradition of a Japanese group, one of the younger guys ordered for the group and though I did ask for the name of each dish, those memories were wiped by the copious amount of soju that I drank that night. I am pretty sure I took a lot of pictures and will inspect my Dropbox to see if they are safe to post. What I recall were players of small plates, a potato hot pot and another dish with pork and kimchi. It was all delicious. Our server was an elegant Korean lady who did a fine job serving us while keeping a bunch of crazy«salarymen«in line. For my part, it was a lot of fun.

I don’t have a ton of experience with Korean food — so not a lot to compare this to. But the food is good and I love the variety of garnishes that come with the entrée. The only issue is that the steak can sometimes be chewy/fatty in the stir fry which is a make or break for an entrée. Interesting flavor and combinations though!

Glad there’s Korean resturant close to home. It makes getting a Bön chon and bokkeum fix convenient.

Probably the only legit Korean food in Virginia outside of northern Virginia. While the outside of the restaurant makes it seem tiny being in the corner of a random shopping mall, it’s pretty spacious inside. I came in between lunch and dinner on a Saturday so it was completely empty. Service was great — fast and very attentive. I ordered the seafood pancake and spicy pork, which was quite a bit of food for a single person in addition to the small appetizer dishes they give as well. I’ll have to come back and get some bulgogi beef next time.

What a hidden gem! I lived in Roanoke 25 yrs ago and there was no Thai, Korean, Asian, Indian. What a change! This place is the real deal — very authentic and they will make it spicy if you like it that way. The kimchi pancake was out of this world, as was the pork bulgogi; we could have eaten 2 plates of that! Spicy beef soup and beef bibimbap were excellent too. Very fast and friendly service. Fine variety of Asian wines, beers, and saki.

Nice dinner. The steak and pork bokolgi were really good. We also ordered dumplings and the kimchi pancake. They were fantastic. In fact the kimchi pancake was one one of the best ever!

Best korean place in roanoke! Well, the only one in roanoke that i know of lol. But i love the owner, the man dont know his name but he is always so friendly when me and my friends go. The food is great. I always get the appetizer sushi rolls, the seafood pancake and the spicy fish soup with noodles. Do not order the water from tap though, it has a yucky city water taste. So make sure to get some beer, wine or can sodas.

Daegutang with steamed rice and Tangsuyuk are soooo delicious and recommendable. I’m Korean and had been looking for a not-americanized Korean restaurant(and I found it here). Of course, some dishes, like Daegutang, could be challenging for natives though, they are not americanized at all. I was really pleased to have them anyway :)

Went with some folks from work. We get here and there is one person in the place. We wait. we wait. Finally get seated. Takes a while to get orders placed, then the food finally came. Kinda meh. Def had better. Food is Ok but in our experience service is lack luster.

This is an authentic Korean restaurant. So why do I go eat at one here in Roanoke when I live so close to Koreatown in LA? It’s because my dearest friend(a native, big city girl) lives in this neck of the woods and she craves authentic Asian food. We finally found something that we can say is truly authentic! We came here for lunch on a weekday en route to the airport. There are hardly a soul in this place. Where is everyone?! The food is really good and reasonably priced. We ordered a lot so that my friend can take the leftovers home. First, we had Korean sushi(gimbap — $ 4.95 for one roll) which unfortunately, I didn’t eat. I didn’t realize it had pork(the restaurant’s little twist). The roll was sushi seaweed wrapping a filling of spinach, carrot, a piece of ham, imitation crab meat, pickled daikon and rice. It smelled so good. Unlike Japanese sushi, gimbap is sesame-oil-flavored as opposed to vinegar. YUM. My friend really, really enjoyed it. We also had the octopus rice stone pot(dolsot bibim bap) for $ 14.95. The stone pot was sizzling hot and the rice beneath it was so deliciously crispy! The octopus was well-seasoned, the vegetables were plentiful, the fried egg was perfect, the rice was of a great texture — it is really is a complete meal. The menu also included beef short rib and regular beef options. The octopus was a special of the day. The LA galbi(I don’t know what the LA means) looked wimpy since the meat didn’t have a good browning to it by sight. However, it was rather enjoyable because the meat was very nicely seasoned. It was a savory had just the right amount of sweetness. For $ 19.95, it was a pretty hearty serving of protein. They also put beneath it sliced onions, carrots and red peppers. The rice cakes was prepared with fish cake and one hard-boiled egg(it’s called tteokbokki — $ 9.95). It doesn’t get too much more authentic than that. The sauce was SO good and had the perfect amount of heat. We mixed some of it with our plain rice — that’s how much we liked it. The rice cakes themselves were a little chewier than I’m used to. They felt like they were left out in air too long so that the outside dried out too much. Nonetheless, we really did enjoy it and it was the only dish we finished all of because I love me some spicy tteokbokki. We were also given banchan(free side dishes) of napa cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cake, potatoes and marinated kale. I’ve never had kale banchan before but I really liked it! In fact, the more traditional banchan weren’t that enjoyable but the kale was. Lastly, I have to say something about the«iced green tea». It tasted absolutely NOTHING like tea BUT it was like candy — not in a bad way. It had just enough sweetness to not be too sweet and I can’t describe how it tastes like except some kind of sinful and indulgent candy liquid. Order it — $ 1.95 for a large cup of it. Our waitress was an adorable Korean lady. With much enthusiasm and encouragement, she was teaching us how to prepare the leftovers and what to order next time. The stews/soups on the menu look good and maybe we’ll try those next time. I’ve been coming out in these parts of Virginia since my friend moved here six years ago. This is the first Asian restaurant that felt familiar and equally delicious as places back home.

Very good Korean food. Spicy pork bulgogi cane out sizzling on hot plate. Loaded with delicious pork, onions, and carrots. A bunch of accompaniments such as kimchi, zucchini slices, tofu, bran sprouts and what I think was type of potato salad. Bonus on imported Japanese, Korean, and Chinese beer. Not made in US as most restaurants put out and sell as imports. A big surprise in Roanoke.

Absolutely the worst Korean food I have ever had. I thought my hometown of Orlando was bad… This one takes the cake. The soon du boo was absolutely tasteless. It tasted like water, no spicy or seafood taste to it. I was thoroughly disappointed in how unappetizing it is. I normally can finish the soup without any issues, but this one was so bland that I ate half of it and gave up. Service was equally atrocious. Stay far away from this place.

Authentic as it gets and everything is fresh. If you have never tried Korean or already are a fan this is the place for you. Every diner is served a collection of Korean small plates. There is always kimchi(which is homemade), as well as fish cake, kale, sweetened potatoes, sprouts, etc. One of my favorites is the Dolsot Bibimbap, a mixture of fresh vegetables, meat, and rice served is an extremely hot stone bowl with an egg on top. Also for variety try a Bulgogi Box(Bento Box). There are lots of different entrees choices and all are served with miso soup and a fresh ginger salad. Don’t miss the sushi bar. I did mention fresh.

Traditional Korean Foods! Wonju is a city name in Korea that is a sister city of Roanoke.

Hidden in a corner, the restaurant has a cute charm to it inside and out. Considering that the Roanoke area is limited in Korean restaurants, Wonju is a solid choice to satisfy your Korean food cravings. The food here is pretty good, but what I love most is their side dishes because Wonju gives you a decently large selection of them! I really liked their pork bulgogi and is always my go to. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t been here!

Very Good Ribs and Kimchi ! Excellent Service! Very Friendly and Helpful! Interior is a lot more ____than the Exterior! From the outside it looks smaller and the Character of the Shopping Center has its own Charm ! I would not call it a hole in the wall, since I have been to Korean Restaurant that were much more Sparse in Character than here, still i have been to fancy Korean Restaurants too! We enjoyed some Dumplings Appetizer waiting for the Ribs! Crosscut(the Korean Usual) Short Ribs Korean Flavor, Fruit Juice, Soy Sauce and Garlic are my Guesses for Sauce Main Ingredients! Kimchi and other Small Dishes were nice and what I did not like as much, my Bride enjoyed!
