Friendly dojo that emphasizes learning over belt collecting. Great community and great instructors, including for beginners(I only started a few months ago).

I have been practicing with this dojo since August 2013 after practicing in Chicago before. This place is awesome(full disclosure: I recently got a black belt and started volunteering as an instructor). I never thought I would get involved in a martial art and started it as a new hobby to try with a girlfriend. And then I got hooked. It keeps me in good shape, being able to defend myself and practice with happy and committed people without bruises and injuries. It’s awesome to jump into a big forward roll or fall safely. I continue to be fascinated how with continued practice a person of any gender or body type can be as strong as an aikidoka. I also enjoy being able to prevent the attacker(or attackers) from harming me without injuring him/her/them. Onto practical issues. The club(dojo) has a huge dedicated space that has classes 6 days a week(I attend 2 – 3 times). One of the walls has giant westward facing windows and it awesome to practice as the sun sets. The cost is $ 45 per month with discounts for students, families and prepayments. I didn’t have to pay for the first few classes as I was checking this place out. Moreover, the club has a first 3 month special for $ 90. There is a weekly kids class on Saturday and families are very welcome.

If you’re looking to practice a martial art, check out this dojo. The style they teach is the defensive art of Aikido. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient and friendly. The dojo is huge and is open 6 days a week.

These guys rock. I was welcomed with open arms when I did a drop in class a few years back or so. I try to make it down there when I’m in the ROC. I think the have a local chapter in Boston too which I have yet to visit. My forward and rear rolls were put to shame by these folks. They have great footwork and decent joint locks. Its one of the best looking Dojos I’ve ever been too. Clean and nice canvas mats perfectly hemmed and padded. There ‘s lots of experience in that dojo too beyond Aikido. They practice at a perfect pace too. Good for beginners and guys like me 15 years of JJ. Good luck guys and keep up the good work.
