I’ve gone here numerous times over the last six months and their tea/coffee products are consistently good, but their staff can be subtly rude. Most of the baristas are welcoming and efficient, while a select individual continuously adopts a condescending demeanor. Dessert Oasis is just down the block and it’s developed a more comfortable atmosphere, as well as a professional staff. I’d recommend going to Oasis rather than Bean/leaf UNLESS you want tea.

The tea selection here is great. I love the ambiance, the staff is really friendly and it’s always a nice place to go and read a book or chat with your friends while enjoying a hot cup of tea. I’ve tried many of the teas and I try something new every time. I highly recommend the Japanese Sencha or the Jasmine Ginger blend. Very delicious!

You may want to update your business hours… I came at 7:39am and it is dark. Your website indicates that your hours on Sunday are opening at 7AM. Otherwise, we have been patronizing for several years since this location replaced Starbucks. Favorite drink is during St Patricks’s Day — Irish Mocha latte. Favorite pastry — Owners Coconut Macaroon.

Had a pleasant experience here today! Dropped in around 11 and found a slightly busy establishment with people of all ages. We had a Chai tea latte and just a normal latte in big ceramic mugs and they were very tasty. I got a bagel for a snack and while it wasn’t anything too special, they toasted and sliced it. The women working behind the counter were very friendly and making conversation with the customers beyond«what can I get you». The best part is the menu, which is written in big, whimsical scrawl. There’s drawings of how much milk, coffee, espresso, flavor, etc. goes into each beverage so there’s no confusion! Can’t wait to go back and get a whole pot of tea. Prices were reasonable, portions were large, and the drinks were delicious.

If you love chai this is your place. Soo good! Employees are so helpful and nice and such a warm welcoming atmosphere for a coffee shop without being hipster. A+ Favorite place in town.

Right at the corner of main and university, bean and leaf is easily one of my favorite coffee places in the area. The tea selection is incredible and the coffee is smooth and strong. I love the menu that bean and leaf offers and I also love the location. The only problem with bean and leaf is the seating area. The buildings are old in downtown and all the spaces are small or oddly shaped which is a huge setback for business trying to thrive in downtown Rochester. Owners are forced to be creative and unique with the layout of their business. Bean and leaf continues that starbucks layout which can hinder business especially when café oasis is right up the road and has couches, tables and seating peppered all over their establishment. The idea of being downtown to consumers is that«stay awhile» mentality. Bean and leaf just doesn’t have that feel. That also being said, their coffee and tea is far better than that of café oasis and is the reason why I won’t stop coming enjoying bean and leaf and supporting this company. Great products even better than starbucks in most cases!

Nice coffee shop in Rochester, with a little more sincerity and character than Starbucks or Biggby. A huge drink menu has just about everything you could want. Their ommitment to local suppliers and bakeries is notable and one more reason I will be likely to return.

Highly crowded, a little tacky with their signs, and parking isn’t good to just swing in to get a coffee. If you have time to sit and chat, this place is ideal but if you need a pick-me-up in a hurry this place isn’t for you during the morning rush hours. The prices are reasonable and their staff are courteous though.

Nice place and location! Good prices, they support small businesses and I was able to place my cards around and on the community board. Coffee was good and the atmosphere was comfortable and quiet. I’ll definitely be back.

Mmmmm. Had a delicious Caramel Crème here today. My friend loved her mocha. The employees were kind enough to offer to make the hot chocolate«not too hot» since it was for a 9 yr old girl. That is super customer service. :)

If the traffic flow is a key indicator, Bean & Leaf Café is a tremendous hit in the area. I went in one day and got a dirty chai and was SOLD. I’ve never had one anywhere before or since so they get an A for creativity on many levels from my perusal of their menu. As others have commented the consistency is definitely hit or miss. I am now a regular since my daughter is in town for lessons 2x a week and I hang around. Great people watching and some lovely desserts by the looks. I haven’t tried them. Do try the dirty chai and I am going to try the spiced cider that Matt reported on! They also could use more room but it is what it is — a very popular hangout!

I think this is as good as it gets for suburban Detroit. I spent a summer at home in Rochester, studying for a really big test, and literally spent every afternoon here for a month. I couldn’t have gotten through the grind without these guys. The number of teas offered is absolutely phenomenal. I’m impressed by their Thai Iced Tea, Red Tea Lattes(always add caramel), and flavored Iced Black Teas(which I strongly recommend adding some peach purée to). It’s just a great selection of tea, brewed well, and made to order. All you have to do is know how to order(which, can take time to develop). Overall, great beverages, great service, great ambiance. I’ll be sure to visit every time I’m in town.
