My wife is a huge Victorian style house fan and since she cant convince me to buy one I always look for a to stay in when we can. We decided to do a quick getaway in Rochester so I started looking a place to stay. I did a couple of searches for B&B’s and this place was at the top of the list everytime. So I decided to book it. The location It is located right in the heart of Rochester I honestly couldn’t have picked a better location. You are so close to everything including less than 5 minutes from Wegman’s if you need anything. Looking for a place to eat? No problem is right off Park Ave which has plenty of places to eat. Love coffee? There were two great coffee shops within 4 minute walks. It really didn’t matter when you wanted to go everything is near. The house The house is beautiful plain and simple even if you’re not big Victorian house fan you will appreciate this place. The attention to detail is stunning and makes you feel like you are at someones house instead of a cookie cutter hotel. Secondly, it is super clean which to important to anyone staying at any place! The food Breakfast is included in your stay and all I can say is wow that a spread. They have all the usual items but you can tell they use high quality items. Every morning Manny made a special item the day it was a pear crisp that melted in my mouth. Secondly night it was high specialty a soufflé them came out of the oven at 425 degrees. Then we added brown sugar, fresh berries, and sour cream(sounds weird I know) but holy crap it was like heaven in my mouth! It made me want stay again just to eat more of his special breakfast! They also had some snacks out in living room in case you needed something small which was great before bed. The staff Manny and Susan are such amazing people they sat and chat with us one evening when we came back from diner. Something you will never get from a hotel. They gave us a tour and told us all about the history of the house and gave us any info about the house we might want to know. The verdict It is pretty simple if you are coming to Rochester look no further this is place to stay. I cant wait to come back!

We chose Rochester and Edward Harris House to celebrate our 40th wedding Anniversary. Upon arrival, Heather welcomed us and immediately made us feel at home. I think we would need to stay quite some time to really experience and appreciate the complexity of how this home was refurbished and decorated, as it’s all in the detail. We went to the Madeline Room, and was greeted with a tray of cheese, crackers, fresh berries, and a bottle of sparkling water. Also on the tray was a pair of beautifully hand-painted glasses, that I later discovered were painted by Susan, the owner. In the morning, we came down to a bright airy dining room with many choices of starters, and piping hot coffee. They started it off with a freshly baked apple crisp, and then followed it with french toast and Canadian bacon. Our second night there, they upgraded us at no charge to a suite with a «fireplace». We enjoyed the comfort of the king bed, and a glass of wine with the backlight of the fireplace. While not real, it still added to the ambiance of the room. The second morning we were treated to breakfast made by the owners. They started it off with fresh berries and cream, followed by a most awesome omelet & chicken sausage that was prepared by Manny. Set in Park Avenue, one of my favorite neighborhoods, we enjoyed going to the new Matisse Exhibit, as well as the some great dining while in Rochester. If anything, we would make two suggestions … Outlets that have the third prong to accommodate our laptop that are more conveniently located(We tend to like to go online while in bed before finally going to sleep), and a microwave to heat up food that we had brought home from a restaurant. Small things. But … I am definitely a fan, and look forward to another visit sometime in the future.

I found out about this place through DealChicken online(sort of like Groupon). The deal sounds really good, and it is, IF, IF, IF you communicate well enough to the owners. Apparently they didn’t remember that the only way I found out about them to begin with was through this website… so paying for the stay was confusing, our food and local tourist coupons that should have come upon arrival came way too late. The BB was gorgeous inside, there were snacks available, plenty of parking and it is super close to lots of site within walking distance. Oh, the website boasts local food for breakfast(this is not the case unless you insist over and over again) and even though there are beautiful working fireplaces ONTHEWEBSITE, they are not working in real life. My new husband and I rented out every room at the Edward Harris House for our families to join us for our wedding ceremony. Us and our families were treated like royalty and had an amazing time. We stayed in Garden Suite and then our families were in the others. The rooms themselves are all uniquely laid out with beautiful details and amazingly comfortable beds and linens. The rooms are clean and well taken care of. Breakfast for the two mornings was awesome. Susan(one of the owners) and her assistant Heather took care of us and our family for sure. Our ceremony was in the beautiful garden outside and Susan could not have picked a better reading and vows for us. All of the normal«wedding» stress people have– I didn’t. Every detail, from the getting ready in the morning to when we left in a limo for dinner was absolutely perfect. Our families are still raving about how wonderful the Edward Harris House and their staff was to us. Everyone had an extremely memorable and positive experience. My new husband and I cannot say enough good things about them!

Susan and Manny are top-notch hosts! You really can’t find friendlier people in all of New York state then these two and they are there to check you in and make you feel at home the moment you arrive. The rooms are beautifully decorated and cozy, complete with gorgeous antiques and old paintings. Susan’s style is that of a talented interior decorator on HGTV, mixing old with new so you don’t feel like you’re sleeping in a musty, old antique shop. The neighborhood is quiet, and the breakfast is home-cooked fabulousness.(Hope you’re there when they serve Puff). The house is walking distance to nice little cafes, restaurants, and museums. One thing to note… you should expect to pay more at a B&B than a hotel, but it’s not like staying in some ugly and bland hotel anyways, this place has class! They also have two little dogs that are cute as buttons and will greet you in the morning when you come downstairs, but no worries, they aren’t hanging out in your sleeping quarters! This is the only place in Rochester I will ever stay at. The Edward Harris House is my home away from home.
