I stopped into Gander Mountain the other day to pick up multiple firearms that I had purchased. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, even though they knew that my purchase was going to be a lot of work. I am shocked at how quickly those guys were able to team up and knock out the paperwork side of the transaction. In addition to tackling my paperwork, one staff member, Fred, took the time to price out the best ammo deal for me. I was curious about the price per round for multiple calibers. He took the time to look up multiple prices and do the math to ensure that I got the best deal for my dollar. This simple act by Fred gained my complete trust as a customer, it was apparent that he was trying to find me the best deal, not upsale me every chance he could like many associates at other retail stores. Due to these exceptional experiences, I will continue to shop at Gander Mountain for any of my hunting needs. In the end, I walked out with multiple new firearms that will forever be highly valued in my collection. The purchase was way less painful than I had expected, it could not have gone more smoothly. Thank you for the awesome job, I will certainly be back for more in the future.

Ordered an item online. Received notification from Fed Ex as well as a voice mail from the store that it had been delivered. Drove an hour to the store, told an unfriendly employee at the register what I was there to pick up and waited. After receiving word from the guys in the back, Mr Unfriendly said«it’s not here». I said that I had a delivery confirmation from Fed Ex and that someone from the store had left me a message that my merchandise was there and he says with an attitude«call the store before you come next time.» That was it. Now, if I wouldn’t have pushed the issue further it would have been a complete waste of a two hour round trip drive. However, after asking for a manager and further wait they finally found my merchandise. Could they possibly have that many items ordered online waiting for pick up where mine could not be located at first amongst the piles or did they not even bother to look until a manager got involved? Oh and by the way, there were all of about 5 other customers in the entire store at the time all of this happened.

Someone needs to coach employees on customer service. Employees that were working were pretty tough to track down for assistance. Retail isn’t about lolly gagging in one spot.

Overall o.k., but inconsistent stocking(as compared to their website) has often resulted in items not being in their physical store, in either a sufficient quality or selection of sizes. The frequent moving and adjusting of the locations of departments also make shopping more of chore than it should be. I mean it is just a thought by why not put apparel(aka clothes) somewhat near footwear(aka shoes and socks), as I would not have have thought to look for hiking socks on the other side of coolers and tents. — Maybe that was just a temporary placement. Which, if true, means –they probably won’t be there the next time. Ugh! The folks working there know their stuff and have always been decently helpful.

Walking into Gander Mountain is a little weird for me. I am really familiar with outdoor clothing, camping gear, etc. but the gun/camoflage/Carhartt element of Gander always puts a different spin on things. Anyway. Onto the good: prices are fair. If you are looking for some hiking boots or Keen type shoes, I would recommend this place, but you should already know how to size yourself up for shoes. The customer service at Gander isn’t really up to par with what you might get at EMS, Fleet Feet, etc. The name brand shoe stock doesn’t seem to get a lot of traffic at Gander and this is great when they have sales or clearance items, ie I spotted a great selection of NB Minimus shoes on clearance there that was at least $ 5 cheaper than anywhere I could find online. You can pick up tents, packs, sleeping bags, etc. here at a decent price. Again, you just have to know what you are looking for. Also a great place to get«generic» camping stuff like the fold up chairs, cook gear, etc. If you are looking for fancy camp-gear(like ultra light backpacking stuff) this would not be a good place to look. Good for what it is.
