this is a place you will want to find if you like to cook and live in Rochester. they have a fabulous meat counter in the back. You can buy fresh amish chickens that have never been frozen(for us that cook chicken that is important because if it has been frozen it will be dark by the bone when you cook it) liver that is fresh, brats, the old fashioned weiners that are linked together, excellent huge thick iowa pork chops, and my very favorite the beef tenderloin… i used to order a lion and they butcher would cut it however you wanted so I would get little 5 oz portions and they would all be wrapped in a nice bag and then with butcher paper and twine and stamped… They do a fantastic job here… They have some light groceries also so if you lived in town no need to drag yourself to the big store just get it here. They have fresh produce and local farm milk and eggs and local bakery breads and treats… They do a lunch everyday for pretty cheap if you are out and about and just need something but it is a grab and go because no seating…

I want to start this by saying I used to LOVE this place, and me and my family would shop here regularly for meat and cheese. They make their own corned beef that was awesome, and had a selection of cheeses that was very impressive. Often, the guys who worked there would throw in a sample size of something they thought you would like to try for free. But all that ended last year. My mother was planning a traditional Greek meal that required a full leg of fresh lamb. She ordered it at Just Rite three weeks before she needed it. A few days before the meal, she went with me to pick it up. But the manager couldn’t find any record of it. So, we had to take several frozen hunks of lamb instead. It wasn’t ideal but it would do. We got home and my brother opened the packages to start the whole process, and we noticed that one of the hunks of lamb was VERY rotten. Green juice that smelled like rotten eggs poured out instead of clear blood. The package showed it had been past date for weeks. We went back, angry now, and demanded a new piece of lamb which they were very unhappy about giving to us. We are all grossed out, but made the meal with the fresh meat and it was fine. A week later my dad pulls out a rack of ribs from the same place to thaw and make, and he sees that the meat was past date AGAIN, and the juice was all cloudy and not safe. We wrote to Just Rite, complaining that after many years of loyal service we were shocked at them selling(repeatedly) rotten meat and being extraordinarily rude about it. In return we received a letter that says it wasn’t their fault the meat was rotten(if not them. who?) but gave us a $ 30 gift card. Needless to say, I don’t like dying from rotten meat, and won’t be going back. Be VERY careful if you decide to try their stuff out.
