I work on University ave and Lorraine’s is my go-to for ordering catering/delivery. They arrive with everything organized, food isn’t messy AND its delicious. I have ordered lunches(serving 10 – 20 people) from assorted wraps filled with all sorts of good stuff and delicious combinations, to quesadillas(shrimp, chicken, veggie and steak) that were filled and not bland.

Lorraine’s has been around for yeeearrssss. I remember it on South Clinton at its first location. We’d drive by enroute to my dad’s house in the formerly untrendy South Wedge neighborhood. Lorraine’s moved to the Culver Rd location about a decade ago and now I’m back to driving by it almost every day. I finally had the chance to pick up a to-go order, which is pretty much the sole thing you can do here. I recommend calling ahead so you don’t have to wait in the small-ish lobby area. There’s a little bell that rings when you enter and someone comes to the counter to take your order. Don’t walk into the back area like I did because that’s the kitchen. Not for customers. Anyway, I was merely checking things out, a newbie in Lorraine’s world of lunch. I opted for a simple soup and sandwich lunch — cup of chili and a bologna sandwich. Why bologna? Nostalgia’s sake. It seemed like a good idea at the time of my impulse order. — Chili hit the spot — chock full of meat, rich color like it had been marinating in the pot for hours, and coated with a heck of a lot of cheddar cheese. My dream come true. — The sandwich bread was soft. I thought it was overloaded with meat, but I suppose I could have made myself a 2nd sandwich with the additional deli meat. I prefer a thick sliced bologna, this was thin, which I think is why the sandwich was Dagwood-stacked. — It comes with a individual sized bag of Lays chips and a cookie, reminiscent of Chips Ahoy. It really felt like I was eating an 8-year old’s lunch. No objections. Although, is it snobby to say that the Lays chips aren’t my fave and I’ve been spoiled by the likes of many homemade potato chips offered as a side? Perhaps. Regardless, it’s a great spot for a quick bite if you’re on the go. I plan to try a few other items like their salads. When I don’t make it at home, I’ll be grabbing that chili. It’s hearty and perfect for the winter months.

Don’t bother. Located in big cavernous space with catering business. Food served for lunch is an afterthought to main business. Canned soup, sandwich had stale bread and tastless filling. Could be good if someone cared. Also, what’s with the air freshener, a restaurant should smell like food, not a bathroom!
