Microtel Inn & Suites Rochester

Stayed here for a visit to the Mayo Clinic. It was nice because they provided a free shuttle to the hospital which runs hourly. The hotel was very clean. The room was small but not uncomfortable. It contained a queen sized bed, desk, chair, TV, and two side tables (night stands). The bathroom offered a generous amount of counter space. The iron in the room worked extremely well which is not something I can say of a lot of hotels. The in room Wi-​Fi was free and worked great.
The hotel offered free parking and free breakfast. I found the breakfast options to be limited. I would have liked more options for protein and for them to have served fresh fruit. For breakfast there is a waffle maker to make your own waffle which was pretty good. There is also oatmeal, boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, coffee, milk.
I didn’t use the laundry facility or the gym but I did peak into the gym and it was very clean and offered a good amount of equipment.
I ordered Jimmy John’s for delivery and they brought it to the room within a very short amount of time after ordering.
One thing I didn’t like was not having a microwave and refrigerator although there was the option to have a microwave for an additional $ 5/​day. I also read online that some room packages do include a refrigerator.
Another thing I didn’t like was not having room service. To get more towels or soap I had to go to the front desk instead of them bringing them to my room.
The hotel was very reasonably priced and the front desk staff was friendly. I would recommend this hotel.

Considering the price, this hotel is quite nice. At a weekly rate of $ 53/​night, I found it to be affordable for my extended Mayo Clinic visit.
The hotel is small, but has a laundry facility, gym, and Continental breakfast. The breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, and juice for drinks. It had a different variety of oatmeal with fresh bananas and oranges. It also included a few varieties of cereals with yogurt and hard boiled eggs in a fridge.
I was unable to drive, and was happy with the free shuttle from the hotel to the Mayo Clinic. I actually paid $ 15 to take a shuttle to the Mayo Clinic from the airport, and hopped in the free shuttle to the hotel (hint, hint)!
I stayed in a one-​bedroom room that didn’t have a microwave or fridge, but for $ 5/​night a microwave and fridge can be brought to your room!
The location isn’t close to the hospital, but is located next to a bar and pizza joint, and across the street from a Super Target. The check in is at 3pm, but you could probably get in at noon. But, no earlier! They are a popular location!
I’d return for another visit when visiting the hospital again.

The hotel itself was fine. Not having a microwave and refrigerator in the room was an inconvenience. I would stay here again but might plan a cooler and meals differently.

Nice hotel! My husband and I, newlyweds, stayed here on Christmas Eve because I’m way too prideful to stay with my parents who live in town as a married woman. No problems with check-​in or check-​out despite being a holiday. The staff woman at the front desk looked really tired, but was helpful. They had signs on all the doors notifying guests that there would not be housekeeping service on Christmas Day (Good! The housekeeping staff should be with their families.), not that it would have mattered to me if my room wasn’t cleaned for a day, but it was a nice gesture to warn the guests.
The parking lot wasn’t plowed very well, but you could tell they tried… It just snowed a few more inches between midnight Christmas Eve and 9:00AM Christmas Day, it’s understandable. I guess if you’re not from the Midwest, that might be a problem.
All in all, pleasant stay, great price (I paid about $ 75 to stay on Christmas Eve)! Nice enough location. I hear they have shuttles to Mayo Clinic, but I’ve never used them. Also, it’s within walking distance of a Target and Best Buy, if that’s important to you.
Definitely not the luxury experience, but if that’s not a requirement for you, I definitely recommend!

Best hotel for the value!
Single Queen room, 1 night stay for 2 adults.
THE LOCATION: A little further out, but not a problem for Mayo Clinic guests because they provide a convenient and free shuttle to and from Mayo throughout the day.
THE ROOM: Slightly smaller, but very clean, smelled good and loved the day bed by the window. It was very comfortable to be in.
THE BED: Very comfortable. I didn’t want to get up in the morning.
THE BATHROOM: Basic bathroom. Clean and had everything we needed.
THE SERVICE: GREAT SERVICE! Front desk was very helpful and friendly. On the shuttle to Mayo, we overheard someone sharing about their Microtel experience to another guest who stayed elsewhere and was not happy at all with their hotel.
This person came to the Mayo Clinic multiple times a year and always stayed at Microtel. They normally come alone and sometimes need procedures done at the hospital. Because they are alone, the hospital calls in to where the patient stays (Microtel) to have them call the patient every 3 hours to check on them. AND Microtel staff were more than happy to follow through with this request.
Hearing this really convinced the other people to book with Microtel. It also confirmed what we had experienced already too. It was good to hear that the staff there really cared about their guests.
So glad we booked with Microtel. I wish we had found them sooner before booking with other hotels in the area. We plan to stay here for all of our Mayo Clinic visits.
BONUS: They have a discounted price for Mayo Clinic visitors. I really really really appreciate that.

I drove down from the Twin Cities to have an early morning visit to the Mayo Clinic. I didn’t want to make the full to and from trip in one day so I booked the cheapest hotel rated above four stars I could find on

The hotel was nice and quiet, which was high on my list since I knew I wouldn’t sleep well anyway in a strange bed and the fact that I was already nervous about what I had drove down for. I got in late in the evening and only had enough time to look up directions for the next morning once I got settled into my room. I didn’t see much of the hotel except the lobby, my room and the hallway in between.
The condition of the room was adequate. With the exception of some caulking issues and trim deterioration in the bathroom, the appearance of the room was fine. It looked like patching was attempted, although poorly and was an eyesore that most people probably wouldn’t even notice.
The room was relatively small with one queen size bed, a very small desk which was more like a shelf attached to the wall, a nightstand on each side of the bed, a closet, a couple of drawers for personal belongings and the bathroom. The TV was probably a 32″ CRT and mounted above the closet. It never got turned on so I can’t comment on the quality or channels.
There was one feature I haven’t seen before and thought was unique. There was a day bed type of shelf in front of the window about waist height. It had a chair cushion the length of it and made a great place to set my bags and didn’t require I find a fold-​out luggage rack as I normally would. The bed was comfortable as far as hotel beds go. There were plenty of pillows, an alarm clock and lights directly above the bed making reading before bed easy.
The one thing I actually complained about in a letter I left on the desk before I left to check out was an odor coming from the sink drain. Having done plumbing repair on my own home, my guess is that the trap either needed to be cleaned or the overflow from the back of the sink down to the main drain contained something that it shouldn’t. This issue was noticeable, especially when getting ready to go in the morning.
I was a little concerned because the continental breakfast didn’t open until 5:30AM and I needed to leave slightly before that. However, when I got down the lobby in the morning almost everything was already set out and available to take at 5:15. I was able to grab a piece of toast, some fruit and a cup of instant coffee (I didn’t have high expectations for the coffee so I won’t comment beyond that). There was no coffee maker in the room, likely because of the continental breakfast. Normally, I like to have a coffee maker in the room, but I probably wouldn’t have used it on this trip anyway.
The price and the quality that you get for it are the best features of this hotel. The continental breakfast is a bonus too, especially if you will be driving back to wherever you came from and don’t want to waste time stopping somewhere. The hotel is conveniently located on the north end of town, making it a perfect stop for those coming from the Twin Cities and worth the extra time if coming from the south. I will stay here without hesitation during my next visit to Rochester.

Traveling through Minnesota in February I ran into some bad weather (I know, I know, you are all shocked). I decided my life was worth the cash so I stopped at the Microtel for the night.
Why this hotel? There are hundreds to chose from in Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic. I had seen signs off the road while driving and it looked alright. The sign advertised rooms at $ 59.99 and it suited my #1 criteria, an inside entrance.
The gentleman at the front desk was cheerful and accommodating, he even gave me a discount! It was the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games and there were a group of women watching it on the TV in the breakfast/​day room. They were eating pizza, wearing their slippers, and talking. It looked comfortable.
I entered my room and was surprised to find what they could pack into such a small space. It was like an IKEA showroom. Everything you needed was in this room, slightly bigger than the queen sized bed. It was basic but with the perks I like, free Wi-​Fi and free cable. What more do you need?
The room was clean and looked like it had recently been remodeled. However, if you looked closely you could see signs of wear on the light fixtures and in the bathroom. Hey, you can’t keep something new forever.
After waking in the morning, the weather had cleared. I picked up my free breakfast & coffee & hit the road.
