This place is amazing! They fix bikes for free and I just got a great deal on a used road bike.(price is generally just as good as craigslist!) before they let me leave with the bike they did a tune up where two bike mechanics checked that the bike was good to go. Before I left the mechanic asked if I rode my bike with a helmet and I said«no“so he gave me one and said I wouldn’t have to pay for it if I promise to use it. They also made sure my bike had a bell :) They gave me a pink slip and said that I can come back for repairs for free any time with my bike purchase.(they already repair bikes for free so I’m not really sure if I needed the slip?) but it’s nice to know that I have free Maintenance on this bike for the rest of its life. :) I’m so glad I stumbled upon this gem. The proceeds go to a great cause. They give away bikes back to the community at events they hold. All the workers are super and nice and are also volunteers. I brought my broken bike in here and they fixed it quickly for me. If you are looking for a place to have your bike fixed or buy an old bike, this is definitely the place for you. Also if you would like to pick up a great skill this store also trains volunteers on how to fix bikes. The volunteers can also work in the front office and the bike give away events.

I don’t usually write reviews for non-food places, but maybe I’ll start now. I walked into this bike shop today completely clueless about bikes — my only requirement was that it would get me around town. The volunteers who work here are the loveliest people. They brought me out to the backroom where all the donated bikes are stored and told me to take a look around and see if there was anything I liked. Usually they ask that you leave the bike there so they can take a few days to do a tune up and the necessary repairs(some of the bikes have pretty visibly seen better years). I was lucky enough to find a bike in pretty good shape. They let me take ir for multiple test spins, encouraged me to play around with the gears, and tuned everything up for me. They even added a little bell to the bike. All this for only a bit for than $ 100. The people there will gladly answer your questions about bike safety, quick releases, gears, etc so don’t hesitate to ask! Helmets are sold here for $ 2! What a steal :-) This is a fully non-profit organization as well. All volunteers doing the restoration work on donated bikes. They also provide free bikes for people who demonstrate need. Buy your bike here and support them.

This is a really cool organization that collects and repairs bikes, gives them away to those who need it and can’t afford a bike, and also offers bikes for sale. Salim did a great overview so I won’t repeat everything else. I went in to pick up a for-sale bike. I am interested in picking up distance biking and commuting, but I am not sure if I will love it or not so I didn’t want to go out and dump over a thousand dollars into a new bike. The volunteer who helped me was really patient about trying to find a bike that fit me right. I ended up with a 80s road bike. The person helping me tagged the bike and told me they were going to tune it up and I could pick it up in a week or two. When I went to get it I was really impressed with the work they put into it – they had put in nice basket pedals(had no pedals when I looked at it), put on new handle tape, removed a really 80s-era decal that was all over it, changed the tires, seat, and even changed out the bottle holders from really horrible fluorescent yellow ones to nice silver ones. Sweet! When I went to get my bike a few of the volunteers ran over to see who was taking the snazzy purple bike. They were all very excited to tell me about the stuff the other volunteers did to the bike. It was really nice to know that they were excited about my bike and it made me feel like I was getting a great deal! Not much else to say about it except it is a great way to buy used and support a good cause. You can donate your used bikes here, too.

My wife bought a rehabbed bicycle from R Community Bikes yesterday. Excellent price($ 130), great selection, helpful and knowledgeable volunteers manning the shop. Two other family members have been riding bikes from here for two years, and are quite happy with them. If you don’t know R Community at all, basically they accept donations of old/junked bikes, tune up the ones they can, replace parts as necessary, and then give them away or sell them. In order to get a free bike, you have to come on a Wednesday or Saturday morning with a letter from a community organization or church on their letterhead, certifying that you are a worthy recipient for a free bike. For the non-needy, it’s a great place to buy a used bike, since the quality is higher than getting a bike from a yard sale or a(new) bike from Walmart, but it’s still affordable — most are between $ 100 and $ 200. And since the labor is all volunteer, the proceeds go to supporting bike rehab & donations.
