If you’re cruising up or down US31 take a brief stop right off the highway in Rochester, Indiana to try this local business. Yes, I said Rochester! The cheese and wine both are delicious. You might want to try Chipotle Gouda(Award Winning), Richland White Cheddar, Pershing Swiss, Rochester Raclette, or New Castle Wensleydale to name a few. They even have Cheesy Dog treats for the pooch! The wines are named after waterways in Fulton County. They have the range from dry to sweet. For instance, Manitou is a Merlot. I prefer sweet, so I enjoyed the Barr Lake peach and apricot chardonnay and Blair black cherry. They have Keesey coming out which is to be a white cranberry Pinot Gris. Would love to see Anderson grace the label on a new one! Maybe a rhubarb wine? Indianapolis, if Rochester is just not in your path, you can find Schnabeltier’s cheese at Smoking Goose, and Milktooth is serving it up in some of their dishes. Also, next Saturday any time from 10AM to 6PM or next Sunday any time from 10AM to 5PM, they will be at the Expo Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the Indiana Artisan Marketplace at booth 518! If you haven’t already, I think you will be hearing great things about Schnabeltier.

I have been there twice now. I first discovered them through their cheese that I found at Harvest Moon(also in Rochester). A few months later I saw that they had a winery via an ad on the back of Edible Michiana… I had to go. My husband and I swung down the first time on a Sunday afternoon, the wines are displayed attractively in a simple but pleasant room. We were greeted by a cheerful woman who happily answered our questions. We got to taste the wine we were interested in which proved to be excellent and subsequently purchased. They also offer a wide selection of very good cheeses and both times we’ve been in have had a selection of three cut that you could try. Today was our second visit, and though the wine I went to buy was currently out we found another wonderful selection. Check them out, they are on Facebook and have a website. They have generous hours, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and it’s a local business.
