I had a reasonable experience with Sears installation for a dishwasher, so I decided to give them a try for installing a water softener. I was thinking I could get this done hassle free, by someone who specializes in installing water softeners. It was an expensive mistake. First, when the plumber showed up, I was told that the $ 299 dollar charge for the installation was to replace an existing model(not what the site says), and that it would cost an additional $ 150. I found out from talking to the plumber that he’d never installed my model before. The model I had comes with a drain hose, which I was told was used to drain a small amount of water. In less than 2 hours he was done. About ½ hour after he left, I discovered the«small amount of water» was a flood of water with my unit, which was a hybrid water softener and filter. I called the plumber back, and he promised to come back and correct the problem. He asked me to call back a day before he was supposed to return to confirm the date and time. Unfortunately, he didn’t answer his cell phone. After several days of this, we got fed up and called Sears. That prompted the plumber to call us back and schedule a time on a different day. This time, he was done in 30 minutes, and my wallet was $ 100 lighter. He had routed the hose into my septic system, which made sense. What didn’t make sense was that he did this by opening up the end of a pipe into my septic system, and tied the hose in with duct tape. I was concerned that fumes from the septic system would get back into my house, but I was done with that guy. I ended up hiring another plumber to do the job right. Another $ 125, and now I am up and running.
