Decided to try out Tavern58 after an event at Eastman. The reviews said the wings were great and that’s all I need to hear. I was outvoted on my suggestion of regrouping at Duff’s. Parking was no problem at all. One of us parked right outside the door, while the others went across the street. Do not worry about parking. They have it covered. Entrance is to the bar area, looks pretty cool, but we had no wait & weren’t boozing that night. The staff was OK. Got everything I needed on time. Lots of options on a diverse menu. Everyone loved the open-face ravioli. The food is presented very well so you should be able to finish everything. The steak sandwich didn’t really impress, but I don’t know what it was supposed to be. Lots of steak, but the other elements were well hidden. Horseradish? Didn’t detect any, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to be detecting on the first try. Couldn’t wait to try the«Tavern Wings.» Couldn’t wait to pass them off to others after I tried them. Very artful and quite different from Buffalo wings. Tasted like they were breaded, loaded with sugar-based products and finished under a broiler. Maybe you’ll like them, but I regretted the experiment. Don’t be afraid, it’s a nice place, I’m just probably not the target customer.

Not impressed. The portion size of the the Baby Shrimp and Ravioli entrée dish was soooo small! Someone in our party got a chicken dish and it was rubbery, not cooked well at all. Overall, no one really enjoyed their meals, disappointing.

The duck chowder was rich a delicious. I also enjoyed their speciality cocktails such as the apricot bubble. However I asked for my steak medium rare and came out medium well. Still delicious just over cooked for my liking.

My husband and I had an excellent weekday meal at Tavern 58. We called for a reservation just in case but it wasn’t really needed due that there were only a few tables occupied while we were there on a Thursday evening. While phoning in the reservation the hostess asked if there was anything special we’re celebrating and it fact my husbands birthday. We were seated quickly and after our drink order was taken fresh rolls for the table were delivered accompanied with sweet butter, oil, and a bruschetta spread. It was very tasty and the rolls were right out of the oven. Next we started with a bowl of lamb and potato soup and an order of calamari. Both were piping hot and tasted wonderful. The soup had hearty chunks of lamb and an assortment of vegetables. The broth was wonderful and not too salty. The calamari was crispy and we loved the dipping sauce(my husband was dipping his bread in it). For our entrees my husband ordered the Engine House Hanger Steak medium and it came cooked perfectly. There were onion straws on top of the two small steaks and the mixed vegetables were crispy and flavorful. The polenta fries were something that we’ve never had before and they were delicious– crispy outside and tender inside and they do look like a French toast stick! I ordered a nightly special– brisket sliced thin served on top of bacon and cheesy spaetzle with onion straws. I’m guessing the brisket was from earlier in the week from St. Patrick’s Day but it was wonderful! It’s was a very good serving of brisket with 6 large slices(and I took home half). I made sure to get a forkful of both brisket and spaetzle in each bite. It was mouthwatering and the spaetzle should be added to the normal menu– it was almost like a bacon Mac n cheese. We finished our meal with the cheesecake trio– traditional cheesecake topped with strawberries, peanut cheesecake topped with spicy peanuts, and chocolate cheesecake covered in chocolate sauce all with fresh whipped cream. They were the perfect size(about a shot glass). They were fantastic and we like the peanut cheesecake the best– a great combo of salty, sweet, and spicy! The dessert was on the house for my husbands birthday but we would have ordered it anyways! We will be back in the future for a nicer meal out in the city with family or friends. Parking is very limited on site with only 3 or 4 spots but there is a large free lot across the street. I hope they have continued success!

I went here last night with some close friends to celebrate my birthday. I’d read the reviews and heard good things about this place so was excited to try it. We met first for drinks at the bar at 7pm, which had a good crowd. It was a Saturday night so we had made reservations for 8pm but not sure that was necessary as the crowd seemed to thin out by then. We were given a great table in the back where it was quiet and good for conversation. To start, the table ordered the calamari, pretzel rolls, and crab cakes. Each one was very good but my favorite parts were the sauces for the calamari and crab cakes. The pretzel rolls were excellent but didn’t taste like a pretzel really. More just like incredibly yummy dough. Everyone was actually surprised at how good they really were. I do have to say that the cheese sauce provided was a bit runnier than it should be and I’d recommend they work on that to make it really phenomenal. For an entrée, my husband ordered the short ribs and duck sausage and I subbed out all the toppings on the bison burger for the regular burger and opted for the blue cheese potatoes instead of chips for an up charge, which I’d seen recommended by a fellow Unilocaler. It occurred to me afterwards that my server did not ask at what temperature I wanted my burger cooked. And unfortunately when I took my first bite, it was medium rare. That normally disgusts me(I don’t like to see the bloody juice coming out) but especially since I’m pregnant, I have to ensure all meats are thoroughly cooked. The potatoes had no flavor and certainly no recognizable blue cheese. My husband’s dish wasn’t even warm at all. We both sat there waiting for the server to come as we felt the dishes needed to be sent back. We normally try to not do this, but really wanted to enjoy our meals on this special occasion, and again, I was concerned about how undercooked the burger was and didn’t feel comfortable eating it. Unfortunately, the server never came. All of our friends finished their entire meals, practically licking their plates clean, is obviously their entrees were good!(Mac n cheese, rock shrimp, popcorn shrimp special, and something else I cannot recall). But still no waiter the entire time! I finally flagged down a busboy and asked him to send our server over. About 10 minutes later, he came and cleared one plate at the end of the table and left quickly before we could say anything. After another 5 – 10 minutes he came back and we explained our situation. By then it was too late to send anything back we explained, but we felt he should know and tell the chefs. He made a poor excuse with no attempt at a real apology. At this point, most restaurants would comp the meals, offer a free dessert, or something to make up for it, but not a word was mentioned and we were fully charged for everything. While we did enjoy the restaurant itself and our appetizers, our poor experience overrides that so I have to give it two stars, whereas I imagine I might have given it 4 otherwise.

This place was decent. We came here with my family for dinner. The menu had a lot of diverse options so there is something for everyone. I decided to get the open faced ravioli’s because it featured goat cheese. It also came with spinach. I wish they included more goat cheese over spinach but that sadly wasn’t the case. This was dish was pretty good but I did enjoy my mom’s angel hair pasta she ordered more. It’s always a bummer when you realized you didn’t order the right thing. Everyone else did enjoy their meals though so that is good. The service was good. She was friendly but my mom did ask for cheese and she took so long to bring it out that my mom wasn’t able to use it on her pasta since she was finished by the time it came out. Overall, a good experience.

Had a great time at this place. My friends and I were celebrating a birthday so we had a party of six and were in a good mood. Reservations and getting a table were no problem(it was after 8:00 on a Saturday night). Tavern 58 was very accommodating. We all had a pre dinner cocktail at the bar to get the digestive juices flowing. Bar area is pretty unique was classy rustic look mix with a modern wine bar style with high ceilings and a nice selection of wines and bourbon. We sat at our table and our server Shelby was exceptional. A nice young girl putting up with a group of «older» guys who can(and sometimes do) act like they’re 16. She did a very nice job of combining friendliness and professionalism while providing our group with the right amount of attention without being intrusive. Well done Shelby. The food was a mix of hits and near misses. We started with soups and apps. Two friends ordered the creamy potato and leak soup and both liked. We also ordered and shared the Tavern58 crab cakes, home made soft pretzel bites and fresh vegetable spring rolls. All were consumed with gusto. The crab cakes were a big hit with all, very meaty and flavorful. Some were not blown away by the pretzel bites but I thought they were good. Buttery, warm and salty with a cheese dipping sauce and a German mustard sauce. I did not partake in the spring rolls but they looked very good. So the apps and soup were a definite hit. The entrees were mixed. I ordered the Panko crusted chicken. Presentation looked great as it sat on top of a creamy lobster risotto unfortunately it left a lot to be desired. The chicken was not tender. Sometimes it happens with chicken so I can attribute that to a bad piece but it was also bland. Maybe if it was pounded first the the chicken would’ve been tender and the panko crispy but it just wasn’t working that night. It was a big miss. The scallop meal was also ordered and I got a photo because it looked so good. The comment from the person eating it was good but a tad too salty. What I am going to get next time was the beef short rib and duck sausage. My buddy said that the beef was tender and delicious and I got to taste the duck sausage. It was chorizo style so… spicy. I noticed my friend had some left on plate as he was allowing our server to gather dishes. «Hold up“I said. «I see meat there». Let me tell you the duck sausage was moist, tender and delicious! The casing provided a hearty pop as I ate… and the flavor… oh yes, it made up for the chicken in a big way. I wish I took a photo but if you like spicy sausage, the duck chorizo is a great call. Ha! Duck call! Oh the sides! I almost forgot. Sides we ordered. Blue cheese au gratin potatoes… yes! Flavor. The spinach risotto. Creamy goodness. And a surprise hit… polenta fries. Excellent. Crispy and almost cake like inside. They deserved a photo. All in all I will return, I have to give a three(which isn’t bad) because of the chicken and over salted scallops but worth a return visit. Give this nice little place a shot and see what you think. I can see how the reviews are mixed.

Nice place to hit before an event at Eastman. Always have had a good meal here. Diverse menu from high end to apps or sandwiches and salads. Good variety. Good food always have had good service. Restaurant is a little dated. Sister restaurant in Pittsford near clover.

We stopped in on a Saturday night, not having any idea what to expect. Tavern 58 looks really cute from the outside and was warm and inviting as soon as we walked through the doors. Small bar(seats maybe 12 – 14) with an upscale feel. Our intention was to sit at the bar and feel it out before committing to dinner. Sine there weren’t two seats together, we decided to ask the hostess to sit at a table. There was a 30 min wait(not bad for a Saturday around 7) so we went back to the bar and rearranged a couple seats. The big disappointment here was the beer selection. A lot of the standard stuff(Blue, Coors, Stella, etc) but no craft beers. The one IPA they had on tap was kicked so we went for vodka. My two cents, upscale bar should have higher quality beers selection. We ended up ordering a couple apps, the spring rolls and the chicken quesadillas. Both were fantastic! We also split the Mac and cheese. The homemade noodles absolutely made this dish. It would have been over the top with some lobster or crab. Friendly bar staff. Made a couple great dirty martinis. I would definitely go back to try the full dining experience. Great date night restaurant!!!

This place is bomb. Best parts? The beer pairing suggestions for every dish, the great ambiance, the perfectly kind and attentive staff, and not to mention the best mac n cheese I have ever had in Rochester(or maybe anywhere). Perfect place for date night.

We did a Saturday dinner with friends and had a great meal. Busy but well managed and plenty of parking. Attentive and diligent staff. I would strongly recommend reservations. Stone IPA for me and a Cab/Sav for the lady. Soft pretzel ap(nuggets) with two dipping sauces(cheese/mustard) got us started. Fresh/homemade. Sauces could have been a bit thicker but that’s a personal preference thing. I went for the«Crabby Burger». Basically a well made crab cake on a wheat bun. Very good crust on the cake, nice consistency and great flavor. I would recommend. The highlight for me was the bison/pumpkin/chipotle chili special. Simply stated — WOW! Get it if its offered. The wife gobbled up her mac & cheese so I can only assume it was at least very good(I didn’t even get offered a bite). Homemade with bow tie pasta. As a table we shared the bread pudding for desert. Yum! All in all a great dining experience. Casual but pricey. Happy to go again and would highly recommend.

This was our first time at Tavern 58, and I’m not so sure that we will be back. That being said, there are a few things that go into my three star rating. We went for my wife’s birthday, and had a reservation. We got a table right away, but it being a Tuesday night, the restaurant was empty enough that we probably didn’t need one. We both ordered a glass of Malbec to have with our meal. I felt that the wine was a little on the pricey side. The Malbec was $ 8, and I understand that this is where restaurants make their money, but I’ve definitely seen cheaper options elsewhere. Our server was good, he was knowledgable and offered to answer any questions that we had. We declined any appetizers just because my wife gets full rather quickly, but I have heard that the pretzel bites are pretty delicious. She ended up ordering the Panko crusted chicken and I had the smaller sirloin on the menu. We enjoyed our wine while waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. There was bread at the table, but our meals did take a bit of time, probably around 30 minutes. As I stated before, it wasn’t very busy, and I ordered my steak medium rare, so I don’t think it was a cook time issue. Her chicken came with lobster risotto, but she didn’t really enjoy her meal too much. The chicken lacked some seasoning, and kind of tasted a bit oily. The risotto was decent but lacked some creaminess. I really enjoyed my steak, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The only issue with my dish was that it came with pasta. It wasn’t a quality issue, but a quantity issue. I feel for $ 22 they could’ve beefed up the plate a bit more, and we all know that pasta is pretty cheap. The sauce was mostly diced tomatoes in a light tomato cream sauce. We were offered dessert by our server. All selections were $ 8, but we felt at that price point the portion size would’ve been lacking like the rest of the meal. At the end of the meal I was still a little bit hungry which is never the way you want to feel after dropping $ 75 on dinner(that includes tip). If my wife hadn’t offered up some of her chicken it would’ve been worse. We don’t have an issue spending money on a nice meal, but we have spent less at other fine dining spots, and gotten more satisfaction and a full belly.

This place came as a recommendation from a colleague at work. There were 4 of us and we were not disappointed! We had the cheese ale fondue, the tavern chips and the wings as appetizers… all were so delicious! The wings came with a balsamic drizzle on them, were meaty and cooked to perfection! They were my favorite. I ordered a sirloin steak that was cooked exactly to my liking and came over a bed of noodles in a brown sauce. Delicious! I would definitely recommend coming here… it’s not your standard tavern by any means!

Alright so not totally what I was expecting of a tavern. It’s a little more upscale. Maybe dressy casual. I didn’t know how busy they were, to be honest the boyfriend wanted a burger. I like a burger but wanted something different. Chose this place based on Unilocal. So I called and made a reservation just in case. They actually were not that busy. The staff was friendly and we were seated in the back. The benches were a bit uncomfortable, no padding whatsoever and you are at a 90 degree angle. It was a bit chilly as well so bring a sweater. They provide little rolls with butter and an olive oil balsamic vinegar with rosemary dip. My boyfriend ordered the Gibbs burger. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes. It came with sautéed spinach and fried onions. I ordered it medium rare and it came out pretty rare. That was okay because it tasted like a filet– texture and flavor wise. I was shocked. The potatoes could have been hotter and the onions crispy. They had a stale texture that was chewy. But back to the sirloin… OMG like totally melt in your mouth. The potato to steak ratio was a bit off by a couple tablespoons. The burger looked good. The meat had nice grill marks. The cheese was bubbly and the bacon crispy. They serve with spring mix lettuce it looked like. The pricing was not bad. $ 14.50 for the burger and $ 26 for the 8 oz. I was told to order the Mac and cheese. Maybe next time.

Tavern58 is such an amazing treat in Rochester. We stopped in for dinner on a Thursday evening. The exterior is misleading; it almost didn’t look open! But once inside, we were greeted and invited in. I have to say, for a «tavern» this place is pretty classy. We ordered some drinks — I started with one of the beer cocktails with ginger beer, Brooklyn Summer, bourbon, lemon, and candied rosemary. My fiancé got one of the multiple margaritas. They were both so delicious, we had to try other cocktails on the menu as well! I ended up getting a basil margarita for my second cocktail, and the fiancé got an orange mojito-type drink. I was a little worried about what my bill would be because they didn’t have prices on the drink menu, but they all hovered between $ 8 and $ 10, which is to be expected for craft cocktails nowadays. On to the food! We split the house-made pretzel bites with beer cheese and mustard dipping sauces. For a meager $ 8, HOLYCOW. The portion was huge! But not in a bad way! Every once in a while, a pretzel with warm cheese changes your life, and this was one of them. We couldn’t stop eating them even though we knew we had entrees headed our way! Warm, salty, soft, and gooey, you CANNOT go wrong with these bad boys for an app! Entrees, I ordered the schnitzel. The schnitzel were tender and moist, and the german potato salad rivaled that of my great oma! Despite being full from the pretzels, I couldn’t stop eating this entrée! My fiancé got the panko chicken and was also very, very impressed. The risotto was not dry like many other places, and he too cleaned his plate. Naturally, we were stuffed by the end of our meal. I didn’t know I could stuff so much food in my stomach. We cannot wait to come back, because this was probably the best meal we have ever had in Rochester. Everybody seriously needs to check this place out! Do it now!

I’ve passed by this spot many times and have always wanted to stop in. When my family was in town, I figured this would be a great opportunity to finally give it a go. The end result was… ok. We began with an order of fried calamari, fresh vegetable spring rolls, and a caesar salad. The wait on the apps was actually kind of long. People who had sat down well after us were receiving their dishes ahead of our table. Once they had arrived, the fried calamari was excellent. It had a perfect amount of crunch and the dipping sauce was perfect. The salad was easily enough to share between three people with the other appetizers. Our entrees again took a while to prepare, but there were five of us so I will give the benefit of the doubt on that one. I ordered the shaved new york strip steak sandwich and it was really underwhelming. The bread was actually burnt entirely black on one side. The steak itself was tough and stringy. It may have been what I ordered because my girlfriend ordered the beef tenderloin medallions and said they were the bomb. I guess the takeaway here is to go by the Unilocal tips!

I didn’t know about this place until the other night when I was scouring Unilocal for a place to bring my boyfriends family who is in town this weekend visiting. The reviews and pics sucked me in and now that I’ve gone, I expect to be visiting a lot more. My dinner tonight was all around perfect. Our group was pleasantly surprised to find out about the lovely outdoor seating upon our arrival and were seated almost immediately out there even though we booked for inside. The staff was extremely attentive from the beginning to the end of the meal. We started with the fried calamari, veggie spring rolls, and large family style Caesar salad. I loved the peppers(spicy with some homemade banana like peppers) paired with the calamari and the caesar was enough to fill 3 normal size salad plates so I would definitely recommend that. I ordered the beef medallions and basically licked my plate clean. The meat was tender, juicy and the meal was the perfect size to fill me up but not too much. Potatoes also were moist and paired perfectly. Our group was too full to go for the dessert but I will be back to try to crème brûlée, mark my words. In general our group had mixed reviews. Someone ordered the veggie burger and was very pleased. My boyfriend ordered the shaved steak sandwich and said his bread was burnt and he was not impressed. Definitely ask the staff for recommendations and check out the Unilocal reviews. They don’t lie and you DO want to get the right meal at this hidden golden gem.

Somehow I had never been here in all my time in Rochester. I have tried to make it to as many of the nicer spots in the city but for some reason I had never made it here. Took a first date here about a month ago and everything about the experience was positive. I had a drink at the bar while waiting for her to arrive(she was late — not shocking). I told the hostess she was running behind and she appreciated me telling her and told me that it wouldn’t be a problem(we had pretty early reservations on a Friday evening so it wasn’t too packed). The bartenders were great while I had a drink, the wait staff was awesome while we were eating. The food was excellent(better than what I was expecting) and the atmosphere was great. I have been recommending this place to all my friends who haven’t been and I will definitely be back for dinner again soon.

This place was very warm and inviting. It was not packed at all for a Friday night which is always nice. My brother and I could actually have a conversation without competing with loud patrons. There were only two other tables with patrons and several people at the bar. It was dimly lit and there was mellow jazz music playing in the background. I love a place that isn’t packed like sardines and you can hear the music as well as the person next to you or across from you. I ordered the Charred Angus Strip Steak and it was awesome. While I prefer a Filet since there is less fat this Steak was well prepared. It came with potatoes au gratin that were also tasty and with Grilled Asparagus. The asparagus was not so good. They could have used a lot of pick me up and more flavor. All in all I really enjoyed this place and will have no problem going back or recommending the place to someone else.

The word scrumptious comes to mind after having been here. Our waitress Shelby was really sweet and attentive. Its a pretty upscale restaurant but no dress code. The ambiance is really relaxed and beautiful with a really nice selection of jazz music playing and the lighting is that of serenity. I had the Selden St Crab stuffed jumbo shrimp which was sooooooooo good! And the rice was super tasty. My brother had the char grilled steak fillet which he devoured. I’m not big on steak, but I had to try some of his, and it was really good. I would definitely come back as their menu changes and I would love to explore the new food on the menu. Shelby told us they have a really cool jazz festival in June that sounds like a good time. Cheers to Tavern58, and thanks for the great food and excellent service!!!
