My friends and I had an absolute blast! This was a first escape room for all of us, and I can say at least that I’m thoroughly hooked. If I could go back tomorrow and do the Game Room(we did the Library), I totally would. As others have mentioned, it’s hard to say a whole lot because you can’t give details that would ruin it for other people, but suffice it to say this was really well done. The puzzles were delightfully clever but still solvable(at least for us), while also being challenging and unique enough that it was a thrill to solve them. The décor/items in the room were nicely themed, and I loved the music. A note: as it says on the website, this is harder with fewer people. We didn’t quite make it out in time – went about five minutes over – and we had three people.(Apparently we did very well for having a small group.) They can take up to 10 in a room, but I think the ideal number would be 5 – 6 people.

I finally had a chance to visit The Great Escape Room, and I’m a fan! It was a really fun and challenging experience! As others have noted, it’s very difficult to review a place like this when you’re not allowed to disclose any of the details of the room. I went with a group of my coworkers, and we did manage to get a full 10 people. I would definitely recommend gathering up 10 people– you’ll need all the brainpower you can get! It did get a little chaotic at times(«Have you checked X?» 3 other people: «YES!!!»), but it was helpful to have a bunch of different people who all thought differently available to tackle the puzzles from different angles. It’s also probably more fun to do it all in a group of people you know– I can imagine it might be a little awkward to try this with total strangers. At first, it bugged me a bit to have an employee in the room with you. It felt like you were being watched/judged. But after a little while, I could see why the employee needed to be there: a) there’s a lot of stuff people could break if reckless/desperate and b) the employee can give you hints. Personally, I struggled a bit with the whole thing. I know I’m not the best problem solver out there. I get frustrated when I feel like I’ve tried everything(which was after about 15 minutes in this room!). I kept trying the same things over and over and floating around between the different folks working on different puzzles. This ended up being really fun and exciting as we drew towards the close. Our group was able to solve all the puzzles and escape with a mere 4 minutes remaining on the clock! It was an awesome time and I would go back in the future to try other rooms.

This was a very fun and unique experience! Would absolutely want to come back to try the next room. Went as a small group so we didn’t know everyone in the room but that didn’t stop us all from working together.

So, I am really struggling on how to write this review as I cannot tell you anything for fear of giving it away and ruining your fun, but yet I want to tell you everything! :) I can tell you it was really, really fun. I particularly enjoy brain teasers, puzzles, etc and this was a real-life version of that. As others have mentioned, you are put into a room with 10 other individuals. In our case, 6 people knew each other, but the rest of us did not. I was a bit intimidated by this at first, but quickly realized this was a non-issue as everyone was very friendly and you cannot help but get intimate rather quickly. I would not recommend that you go in with a small group, but really try to fill up your time slot or join another group. Trust me, take all the brain power you can get. Another helpful tip I think I can safely offer is to be prepared to split up and be proactive right away. You only get one hour and it goes by VERY quickly so utilize every minute that you have. Our team was not able to solve the ultimate game, but when we did solve individual puzzles, it was rather thrilling. Be prepared to think absolutely outside the box in every way. hehe. I also have to say that, going into this I thought an hour was a very short time frame for a sort of hefty fee, but it felt much longer. I would have liked more time just to be able to solve the game, but I didn’t feel shortchanged when the hour was over. My husband and I talked about the game for hours after and even in writing this review, I find myself smiling at the memories. Definitely a worthwhile adventure!

Get your thinking caps on kids… Your SHERLOCK! For a friend’s birthday we were all treated to this. I’m guessing you can pick the room you want to sleuth. It’s a non de script place it’s in a corner of business park. When you go in your greeted by staff. You sign a waver, have some candy and wait for your party. Your locked in for an hour. Everyone must arrive together your locked in for an hour and can’t leave. You are talked to by staff and you also have a referee. Than you get a message from Sherlock. I can’t go into what you do or don’t do but your gonna sleuth, I’d say go with a group it’s not hard but it’s not easy either. If you like solving puzzles, suduko, ever played the game«Clue» or like word problems and etc this will be right up your alley. It’s about $ 28 a person you get a discount with a larger group. After you finish you take a group shot and they put it on their Facebook page. They will also take a group shot for you with your smart phone. It was fun and I’d do it again.

A unique, fun and tad frustrating experience. I don’t want to say anything to give anything away, I’d definitely go again. I think the more people you bring the better, we had a small group. I don’t think an additional hour would have allowed us to solve the whole puzzle.

We had 8 people to escape out of the room. It was loads of fun, help us we did not get out of the room. Thank goodness for Cash, our moderator and coach to allow us to escape. Definitely recommend this to a group of insightful people

The directions on the web-site and Unilocal were very helpful in finding the location which is tucked back away on University Ave. There is good signage outside the locations so just keep your eyes peeled. It’s very easy to sign up online for a 1 hr time slot of puzzle fun. It was just me and my husband who signed up hoping maybe a large group would join us and we would have some help — this didn’t happen but it was still a good time. I would suggest getting 10 – 12 of your friends together as you need some«man power» and«brains» if you want a chance at solving the puzzle. There are several rooms currently with the same Library theme. You walk in and are immediately greeted, sign a release and head over to your Library. The decorations are adorable and look just like you would imagine«Sherlock Holmes» library would look. You have a guide in the room with you the whole time(with just the 2 of us was a little awkward, but fine as they give you some hints). After you have had your hour of puzzle fun and digging around this room — if you haven’t been able to spring yourself out they review the solution with you. Disclaimer — I won passes to the room but this didn’t affect my review. Go check it out and bring some crafty/smart friends for a fun night.

Awesome and fun, I will be coming back when the other rooms are done. We booked a game with other people and it was helpful for sure. If you don’t like word puzzle or using your brain it’s not for you. Or working with others!!!

I had never heard of this place before but I started to see the sign out by the side of the entrance. I was intrigued so I googled this and instantly knew I had to come here. My opportunity to experience this place came only a couple short weeks later. My best friends fiancé wanted to come here for his birthday. I was beyond excited. We got all of our tickets ahead of time. It was about $ 30.00 per person. It is kind of expensive but such a great experience that I would say it is worth it. The building is a little difficult to find. It is set back a little bit. It is near a vet’s office and a dancing studio. The building has b c on a sign. That is where you need to go. Once you get there you can check in with a staff member and play some foosball while waiting for the rest of your group. Once everyone is there you sign a waiver saying you will not give away any clues and get a name tag. You then go into your room with a staff member who describes some information about the room, how to get out, and things you can and can’t do. Once we received the explanation we listened to a message from Sherlock and our time and mysterious music started. There were color coded clues and once we found all the clues we needed to solve the puzzle to work towards the final puzzle to get out of the room. I can’t get into any detail from there but I can say finding the clues was a ton of fun and solving the puzzles were great. A fantastic way to use your brain. My group did not get out but we were on the final puzzle to get out of the room. We were told that we had made it the farthest out of every other group that did not get out and we are also the only group that solved a puzzle without all of the clues being found. Throughout the puzzle you can look for 3 magnifying glasses that you can turn in to get clues to answer the puzzles. There are some things the staff member won’t tell you even if you want to use a magnifying glass and somethings the staff member will tell you without needing a magnifying glass. They are very helpful for the things that won’t really help you solve the puzzle but you are questioning anyway. In the end, they do tell you how to get out but that does not mean there is no reason to go back. They change all of the puzzles and clues every three months and there are multiple rooms. They have the library and game room done and are working on 2 other rooms for people to do. Overall, I think this is a great addition to our area and I think everyone should try it. It is totally worth it and a ton of fun. I suggest having a bigger group so more people can help solve the puzzles. I can’t wait to find more people to go with and do it again!!!

We came to The Great Escape Room on Saturday night with a group of 10 to celebrate my husband’s birthday. None of us were really sure what to expect since we had never done an escape game before, but even the most cynical in our group had a great time! The clues were hidden VERY well and the puzzles that followed were challenging, but we managed to be the first group in Rochester to solve them all and escape the room! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique group activity.

I came during the soft opening weekend. I’ve always wanted to try an escape room, so was pretty pumped there was one opening within walking distance of my house! Basically, you are locked in a room(mine was the library) with a group of 10 – 12 people(max) and have one hour to solve puzzles and find clues to exit the room. It’s really fun, and you really have to rack your brain for creative solutions to make sense of the clues. We thought we were doing really well, but only managed to solve maybe 50% of the room in the end. It’s really difficult, and I would be really surprised if anyone got in within an hour(they told us no one had managed to yet when we went). They do talk you through the solution to the room at the end — on the one hand, thank god, otherwise I’d drive myself crazy trying to figure out what we missed. On the other hand, this more or less spoils the solution and I don’t have a reason to come back to the same room again to try it again. Can’t wait to see how the next room looks! Note: The place is really hard to find, as there isn’t a really sign up for it yet. The entrance faces University Ave and is at the very east-most part of Building 5.
