I really enjoy spending time at the Y. Having full use of the machines makes for a pretty good workout. Much of the social side of the Y is fun too. As a senior citizen, it’s a good place to meet and chat with others. And one other nice convenience, is the coffee bar. It’s nice to sit and chat with other friends. The are also some support groups available to people with illness or injury, or what-have-you. I’m glad my wife and I joined.

One of the newer facilities of the several locations throughout Rochester. The staff is friendly and they have several class offerings available for members. Very convenient parking available also.

I loved this gym until my son was born. I joined when I was pregnant in the hopes that I could use the gym and drop my baby off at the daycare where he would be looked after. They seem to pride themselves on their daycare. Do not be fooled. I asked the daycare workers if they support cloth diapers. They said cloth diapers were no problem and to bring them. Well, I brought them and every single time I picked my son up he was either actively crying or had red rings around his eyes from crying. Crying like that is not normal behavior for my son. I also noticed that every time I picked him up, he had a dirty diaper and no used diapers in the wet bag. They were not changing him. They would feel the outside of the diaper, as one would with a disposable, note that it did not feel full, and put him back in a container(i.e. Swing, carrier, etc). After we quit this Y, we were called and asked why we quit. My husband told them of our experience and we were promised a letter of apology. It has been two months and no such letter has presented itself. I give this Y two stars because the rest of the place is very nice. If you don’t have a baby, join. Update: I finally connected with the childcare director. Every time she sort-of apologized, she would flip the problem back on me. I always had my little guy rested, fed, and changed before dropping him off. Every single time I dropped him off, I reminded the staff that he hates having wet diapers and that if he is crying it is because he is wet. They claimed that they made a note in his file. A dry, clean diaper seems to me, a pretty basic thing. She went on to offer me a free week, stating that she«could not guarantee that things would change.» A free week? How insulting! I gave them months of chances for them to fix things and they offer a free week? I’m removing a star because after speaking with the childcare director, I’m even more hurt and upset. One star, solid.

We were members in the past and just rejoined as winter in Rochester makes it hard to walk outside! Love the swimming pool, areas for kids, lots of family activities, and the workout areas are generally clean. Always see workers cleaning equipment. I just wish the family membership wasn’t so expensive!

I actually go to both the YMCA on Long Pond and this one. The Elmgrove one is newer. They are very friendly and helpful. The place is super clean and offers much more equipment than the Long Pond Y. The Long Pond Y is easier to get to work from and the Elmgrove Y is closer to home. So it depends on when I decide to workout. Parking sometimes can be a bother, but it’s worth the hassle.
