The Museum was cool very informative on the Guns that were produced floor to ceiling wall to wall nothing but guns, big guns tiny guns medium guns all guns! They had a few other items displayed with the guns like Swards and knives. Only a few had descriptions next to items you have to look up the number that is next to the gun to find out the information on it. If you are a serious gun person you could spend a few hours there. But it is all one room not a huge museum we walked through it in less then a hour. I would suggest going to the Visitors Center at the Lock and Dam 15 that was an awesome experience we waited about 45 min for a barge to come in and we got to see the water released in the lock it was pretty cool. The 15 minute movie was good to we learned a lot about the Mississippi River. We went on a Friday and the website said they open at 10 the museum opened at noon that is why we drove around to the visitors center. And happy we did. The guards did scan our DL and ask us where we were going we said the museum and the guard said it was closed but he gave us several suggestions on what to see and where things were. He was very helpful. There also are some big cannons on the side of the main rd and a park you can stop and look at them there are about 20 cannons/tanks outside to admire. If you are in the area I would recommend going it was fun.

The Museum is located at the Rock Island Arsenal on Rock Island, Illinois. As a previous reviewer noted, you will need to show a photo ID to enter the island, and if you are a foreign visitor, you need to register a week in advance. They will also ask you which attractions you are looking to visit on the island, so don’t say you just want to «Drive around and see everything». Heh. Know specifically what you want to see when they ask. The museum has no admission, and is well laid out. Lots of history about the island and the weapons they make on the island. The walls full of guns are quite impressive. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

The museum is in the Rock Island Arsenal so you will have to show your driving license to enter the Island. If you are a foreign visitor you will need to call at least 1 week ahead to pre register(this arsenal is an active one with more than 7500 employees working there making and distributing weapons, servicing the armed forces needs). If you are in the area the museum is worth a visit: amazing collection of weapons and a good history of Rock Island Arsenal are on display. Free entrance, hard to ask for more. Closed Mondays.
