Really thought it would be better. I’ve got doughnuts from there a couple times, it wasn’t that great. Maybe I need to try some other things. The location is great, I would like to see improve on some of the quality. It’s okay but I would drive past it to get doughnuts from D&W or Meijers.

I can confirm what one poster has said in regards to the donuts being just mediocre. The reason for this is because of the high rate of employee turnover. Knowing someone who has worked there, the average length of employment is approximately 7 months max. It is true that the ownership which is a father/son duo, has little regard for their employees. They exhibit very poor management skills and professionalism is next to none. On another site, a reviewer had stated that the donuts sellout quickly. This is not due to a high quality product, it is because only one tray of donuts is put into the display case and the rest of the nights production is delivered to gas stations, party stores and other businesses. As for the quality, due to the high rate of employee turnover, there is no quality control. This bakery’s claim to fame is a very large fried cinnamon roll and apple fritter. Unfortunately, due to the lack of quality control, you’ll often get a roll or fritter which is not done in the center. The same can be said for the breads. In regards to the facility, it is dirty and the booths and chairs are in need of repair. The same can be said for the missing tiles in the floor. Another person had commented on how good the cheeseburgers were. I’ve had the burgers at the bakery, and they are certainly nothing to write home about! Now if you want a very good burger, or a great breakfast with potatoes and onions that are to die for, just head west another ½ mile up the road to Stavros. A clean well lighted interior that serves great food, although you won’t be able to get a large raw dough center donut! Should you need donuts for a office meeting or just a few to take home, you would be further ahead in the extra drive time to stop at Dunkin Donuts up on Plainfield Ave. I’m sure the cost is cheaper, due to the smaller size, more healthy, and no raw dough in the centers. And for those that might be looking for part-time employment, beware of a business that always has a «help wanted» sign taped to their door and a constant«help wanted» section to their website. That has to tell you something right there in regards to how employees are treated. Lastly, I should mention that the donuts at the Bostwick Lake Bakery, being poor on quality, are way over priced for what one gets. Sure, the donuts are BIG, but in today’s health conscience world, can you honestly say you need a fried cinnamon roll that is 8 inches in diameter or a ¾ lb. fried fritter? A true diabetics nightmare!

Expected more in the variety of baked goods. Nothing fancy. Ordered a few doughnuts to take with me; had one when got home(10 am) and seemed a little stale. Coffee was good(just coffee, nothing fancy), good place to meet and greet the locals.

I really enjoy the Bostwick Bakery and have been there countless times in the past 7 years. The bakery is located right across the street from Bostwick lake, off of belding road. It is a quaint unpretentious coffee shop that caters to the locals. The bakery has 4 booths and a couple tables with knotty pine walls and local pics from around Rockford for decoration. No latte’s here, coffee comes freshly brewed and black. The bakery offers fresh pastries and donuts each morning, including fresh baked bread and a variety of breakfast sandwiches. The glazed fried cinnamon is one of their best donuts. The bakery also serves an excellent cheese burger and fries for lunch. I once heard a patron laughingly say something about how the bakery excels at happily making people fat! They employee laughed and agreed. There are a lot of regular locals that frequent the bakery, and it a favorite watering hole for some of the older generation. The bakery does offer wireless internet and is a nice escape from the typical busy coffee house to get some work done away from the crowds. I’m not giving the bakery 5 stars because sometimes the quality of their donuts can be mediocre. Overall I really like this place, it has great character and is a great choice for a classic old school bakery that is not your typical trendy coffee house.
