A cool looking rehabbed bar that still has a college feel to it. The place is two levels with a good view overlooking on the bar making it perfect to spy on people just walking into the place. A you g crowd that had some dog night the night I went there is ample room and a outdoor area.

I see a lot of people complaining about the staff. –I’ve never had a problem when I’ve gone in. Seems like a good group of people, seems like they have a lot of fun working there too. Beer selection is awesome. Always rotating taps and endless supply of PBR. This is an awesome place to see live music at. I’ve seen many bands here and never once been disappointed. To top it off they have the weekly events; trivia, comedy, bargo, etc. I have a lot of fun every time I’m here. always a good time. –Keep up the good work!

There is no better. The genuine commitment to creativity in producing entertainment for a really great time is unprecedented. At Kryptonite everyone shares this commitment as part of the culture there and it is is felt by chance visitors as much as by its regulars. Kryptonite reminds me of a modern day ‘Cheers’ but with live music, BARGO, karaōke, comedy, blues and frequent downtown events!

The staff are extremely as far as I’m concerned and I see other people have had similar issues. When I came in at 1 am bouncer said«don’t order anything you can’t finish». What’s that supposed to mean? Okay rude guy sitting on a chair at the door like you own the world. Here’s a lesson. Try saying this instead«hey guys were happy to have your business here but you only have 45 min till we close. Okay». That would be the nice way if going about things. I should’ve just walked out and not spent a dime there but I didn’t unfortunately. Big regret. To start it off some guy sitting with a drink at the bar(maybe a worker who was off?) started screaming at the top of his lungs«get out» «get out now». At 1:40 they wouldn’t let me finish my dart game which had 1 more turn. I understand the concept of «bar time» but could you give me a second here. When I spoke up as they were rudely telling at us to leave & said«you don’t work here, don’t tell me what to do». I’ll tell you what to do” is what he says. They got really mean and in my face. I’m sorry your job is to work the door at some crappy Rockford bar but don’t take it out on me. To top it off they actually sold my friend a beer after last call but then the bouncer physically took the drink out of my friends hand & threw it away. My whole point is that there are polite ways of doing things and a-hole ways of doing things. This staff goes the a-hole route. The bartender was rude too. I understand its 1 am when I order my drink but technically you are still open & haven’t even had last call yet. I’m spending my $ here so don’t be a jerk, remove the stick from your butt & at least put a half smile on your face. Oh and it’s dirty in here too. I feel like, how could the owner want patrons treated this way? Maybe he needs to spend more time monitoring his business & working on training his employees to be polite showing appreciation for customers. At this point there is just nothing redeeming about this place. All I can say is, I personally think it blows. I don’t suggest that anyone spend their hard earned $ here because it’s not appreciated. I will never come here again!!! I don’t want to be treated like dirt where I spend my $. **I now consider myself to be harassed by both owner & employees. While I refuse to engage back & forth in the vile private messages I’ve been sent, I just want to say I stand by my review and will avoid this place like the plague. On the positive side I have gotten several supportive messages from fellow Unilocalers detailing their horrible experiences. Thanks fellow Unilocalers! You rock!

I will start by saying that I’m not a huge live music guy, but they do enough other things right that they still get five stars. If they booked bands for me they would probably be out of business so I don’t hold that against them. What they do have is bartenders who know how to make good drinks and a killer draft beer selection. They are always friendly(even the door guys) and whenever I make it downtown I make it a point to stop in.

We expected something totally different than the name lets on. I imagined some sort of club when I heard the name, but decided to give it a shot; boy were we impressed. Our first visit was on «customer appreciation day» on accident, really. They served free brats, beans and chips outside! The beer list was incredible. Delicious craft beers all around, and for a good price, too. I loved the atmosphere. The only thing I think it could use is maybe one or two more TVs. I was trying to watch a bit of a baseball game, but with only one TV it was rather difficult. I understand their atmosphere could be a bit ruined with too many TVs, but I think one more would be OK. They also offered a free ride home with some local group in Rockford. I guess they drive you home in their car with another driver following behind in your car. Pretty awesome. The bartenders were pretty cool people as well. Top five bar in Rockford, in my opinion. We’ll be regulars for sure.

Cool bar, nice atmosphere and pretty friendly crowd. Also the local music scene they have is nice, and they have an upstairs with an extensive collection of art from local artist. Next time I am in Rockford, I plan on coming here.

What I like about Kryptonite is the diverse crowd it draws. Any night of the week you’ll see young hipsters drinking PBR’s to a group of 40 something’s drinking a fancy, delicious beer from their awesome beer list. It’s definitely a bar where everyone who walks in immediately knows someone else & high fives are exchanged. While I am not their average customer, I always have fun at Krypto. From the live music to the amazing beer selection, there’s always something special going on. I am so happy to have such a successful & fun local bar right around from my office. Drinks, anyone?

If you are from out of town avoid like the plague. The staff here is rude, large, and aggressive. Here’s a recap of our terrible evening: –Approach Krypotonite on a Saturday night and are told by the bouncers that it will be $ 30 for our party to get in. We ask«why so much?» They pull an attitude and we start to walk away. Then they offer us half the original price. Seriously? Just give us the normal price and don’t try to screw us over because we don’t fit your stereotype. –While inside the bar the experience was very enjoyable due to the awesome bands playing. Both were great and my group had a fun time rocking out with them. –But about an hour into our experience one of the bouncers tries to choke slam my friend and throw him out of the bar. in the chaos there is a ton of commotion and my group leaves and tries to understand why we are being thrown out. The seven meathead bouncers refuse to give us an explanation and refuse our attempts at reasonableness. The threaten violence against us and are in general very hostile. We eventually leave but not after getting harassed down the block and threatened with physical violence again. We then spoke to a cop, taxi driver, and store owner and they all had the same advice«Avoid Rockford.» Which is the advice I would give to any out of towner. I’m sure there are some great places but this is not one of them.

This is not a good bar if your looking to have a good time, the name is kryptonite, but the only thing cool about this bar is there’s a couple green lights in the corners. If you go there on a Friday or on the weekend EXPECT, a espensive cover charge!!! This bar is completley WACK, there a bunch of art for sale upstairs that totally throws the vibe of the place off, everyone just stands around and talks, behind the bar there a couple dorky guys serving drinks!!! When they do hve a band it’s horrible racket!!! Do NOT go to this bar unless you enjoy standing starring at a brick wall worst bar I ever paid to get into

This is a great place to catch local and national bands. You can also get a custom martini from award-winning martini maker Todd. Pun heads up karaōke on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

So many people give downtown Rockford a bad reputation, and its places like Kryptonite that prove how wrong those people are! I love the fun and friendly crowd, the staff is great, and I’m a big fan of the VIP room and the balcony. It can get pretty warm and crowded in the summertime, but the sidewalk space really helps with that. Karaōke on Tuesdays and Thursdays is a must and they always have a good mix of live bands as well.

I hardly drink, and Skyler does not drink at all, and we STILL manage to get to Krypto at least once a week, just for the friends, atmosphere, and wonderful service. The drinks are good(when I do drink) and I swear a diet coke, and an energy drink(for Skyler) are on the counter before we can even order them. Our favorite nights to go to Krypto are Zombie Nights! Every last Monday of the month, where you can enjoy sweet gore-ey b movies, and eat zombie treats. A good place to go for a drink and some fun, whether you live in Rockford, or are just passing through.

The best bar in Rockford. The owner Chris is a straight up fun cool guy. Always something going on. Tons of live music. Great staff, atmosphere & sound system. Stiff drinks reasonably priced.

My favorite bar in Rockford. The crowd is great, the drinks are reasonably priced and stiff, the staff is friendly and accommodating. If you’re into music, this is the place for you. Plus the seating on the sidewalk out front is ideal if you like a little conversation with your drinking experience. Karaōke nights are the most lively and fun nights, in my opinion, and they have a pretty good open mic night on Wednesdays. If you’re looking for a come as you are bar that has good music, good drinks, good people and isn’t way out on the Perryville-State-Mulford-Alpine corridor, Krypto is IT.

A great downtown Rockford nightspot! With a lot going on visually, the scenery at Kryptonite, or Krypto, allows one to focus on different things while consuming yummy beers. Besides the usual«water”/domestics one can find anywhere, they also sell a few decent craft beers in bottles and also have cans for the tragically hip who enjoy a PBRASAP(but no tap beers). Multi-leveled, Kryptonite has plenty of room to roam or to sit for those inclined to do either. If the bands or DJs(local and regionally touring, mostly, with occasional national touring acts) are not enough to keep your attention, bring your laptop and use their free WiFi while doing shots(just be sure not to post while drinking-most do not truly appreciate postings from the inebriated). The bartenders are attentive and helpful(but not pushy), as are the other staffers. Dress is pretty-much come-as-you-are, somewhat trendy/hip, and is a decent place to hang out before and after Metro Centre events(as it is one block south of Kryptonite). Even the restrooms are uniquely decorated, too. When the mall was in place, they had outdoor/al fresco seating as well as indoor; it will be interesting to see what happens for this now that the downtown mall is gone… The biggest negative is parking-but this is not as big of a deal as my comment makes it seem, as there are plenty of spaces most nights within a half-block walk. Bring your date(s), bring your girlfriends, bring your friends, bring yourself to Kryptonite!

i was the drinking partner of the above reviewer and concur with all that was said. great conversation with the bartender who really knows his sports and just a good vibe in general. throw on some cheap drink specials($ 2 old school cans when we were there), good tunes, and maybe a hot chick or two and i’ll be a regular. a good night indeed

I hit this place on a Monday night, which has to be by far the sleepiest night in the doldrums called downtown Rockford. Being the only patrons in the bar for a period of time, my friend and I had a good chance to talk with the bartender for an hour about sports, Pennsylvania, and how much the small towns just outside of Rockford suck. This conversation resulted in free shots of Jameson, which are of course always accepted as a great gesture of goodwill. The entire time we were sitting there, the iTunes playlist he was rocking was filled with the rock/metal/screamo music from my past. The bar got a few more patrons just before closing time but the bartender was able to keep conversations going with everyone there, which was skillful to say the least. There is a plaque behind the bar designating this particular bartender as making the best martini in Rockford, which I will probably be trying some other night this week during one of the live music nights. Also, the décor in this place has a random garage sale industrial vibe, and the giant lava lamp would be able to soothe even the most savage of beasts. If I was staying in Rockford long-term, this bar would be one of my regular haunts, but as for now I’ll just try to enjoy it as much as I can before I move back to Chicago.
