Let’s face it, a place that serves Gyros, Burgers, Italian Beef, Chicago Style anything is common in Northern Illinois. So for a place to stand out, they really need to make something spectacular… unfortunately there is no such place. Spanky’s is good for what it is, your typical Chicagoland fast food. Can I say they have the best Gyro? No, Can I honestly say they are better then some of the other local favorite spots… Nope. What can I say about Spanky’s? I can say you get a decent product for a reasonable price. It’s better than some major mast produced chains, but not not as good as some of the better diner style restaurants. One of the items they have that I really like is their Gyro burger. You get the flavor combination of a burger and a gyro, for some reason that just tickles my taste buds in a happy way. If you’re looking for a 4 or 5 star restaurant, you’re not going to get it from a fast food place, but Spanky’s is probably one of the better ones in the area. As for the name, Spanky’s Gyro’s IV… Where are 1 through 3? I did some searching and I’m not sure. Just an odd name if it’s the only one in the area.

Better then Uncle Nicks but not as good as Patheon’s in Madison. Great Gyro and Chicago style food. Price is reasonable and the service is fast and friendly. I eat from here once a week. I’m a gyro aficionado. Onion rings are incredible too. Any knuckle dragging American will love this eatery!

Worse Gyro ever!!! I don’t know how they got such high ratings but my grandbaby can make a better sandwich. Please take a top and season something. I don’t care if it’s the bread. It was just horrid!!!

The food is great and I have gone there often, but not anymore. I witnessed an employee using the restroom wearing her apron. This is really wrong, so I think I will have to skip this place. Wondering what else they are not doing correctly.

Ok, at first I was disappointed, cause there are no spanky’s on the menu. I asked the lady at the register too, and just got a dirty look. Ok then 7th street it is. I decided to order something anyways cause I needed to be satisfied in someway. Well since then I keep coming back. The gyro, steak sammich, etc etc. Haven’t been let down yet. Oh and I love the fries. Good thing, cause you get alot of them. Nice clean spacious area to eat, even some nice tables out front. Not for the tofu crowd, but that’s ok cause they suck anyways.

This was my first and last time going to Spankys. My wife and I ordered the steak sandwich with bacon, drinks and fries. We waited for around 15 – 20 minutes for our order. Which was way too long because we were the only customer in the place. We sat in the back corner window seat and waited for our food. While gazing out the window I noticed a good size spider web and 4 dead flies on the windowsill. YUMMY! We finally got our food from a not so nice lady. Started eating and was wondering where the bacon was at?!! The steak was very chewy and fatty. Fries were cheap bag frys and the pop tasted like bleach water.(might have been from that Dirty Rag sitting next to the pop machine) All in all what a waste of $ 24 because we only ate a bit or two. I would not advise going to this place.

This was a great find! Hubby said his gyro was the best he’d had in years, especially since he could put exactly what he wanted on it(lots of onion and fresh tomato). I had the steak shish kebab — was pleasantly surprised when asked how I wanted it cooked. The portions were generous, delicious and served with a smile. We finished with a tasty treat of watermelon Italian ice. It’s about 5 minutes off Hwy 20, but easy off and on and very easy to find. We’ll definitely be coming back on trips that take us by Rockford.

The gyro was delicious, I’m not an onion lover but it makes everything taste good. and most places drench the gyro with onions but this place placed it in a way where I can remove it easily without even asking, and I will give a place thumbs up if they can read my mind. Sadly it was a pit stop for us and not near where I live. The staff were polite as well!

Had the chicken kabob. Grilled chicken and veggies in a pita. YUM! Homemade coleslaw is really good too. Lots of places screw that up these guys did it right. Thanks.

Just picked up 2 gyro plates. None better in town. Uncle Nicks and Tom & Jerry’s have nothing on Spankys. All of their food is excellent and the staff are great.

Good food and fair prices. Been there twice now and I have gotten fast polite service and good food. Fair prices on the food. This place stands out as a Diamond in the rough compared to most other restaurants in the area.

This place is FANTASTIC, and(unlike Uncle Nick’s) this place is really clean. In different visits, I have tried their gyro as well as the steak kebab pita and one of their soups(that appear to be homemade). Everything I have tried has been great. It’s a nice locally owned alternative to the chain fast food in Rockford. That spot has seen a few places come and go, but I hope that Spanky’s is wildly successful in that spot and they stay around for a long time.

Tastes more like«real food» than«fast food». This is my go-to for takeout late at night. I’ve had the italian beef and the chicago style hot dogs. Both are delicious. Their fries are hearty too. Pricing is similar to McDonalds, maybe a dollar or two more if you get a combo. They have a big TV with sports on if you want to dine-in.

If you want traditional Chicago fare in Rockford, this is it. Coming from the Chicago area, this was the food I was missing out here. While many have tried to get the Chicago hot dog right and failed, Spanky’s has nailed it. Everyone is super friendly and the things I’ve tried so far(Chidog, gyros, italian beef) have been perfect. Hopefully they’ll be around longer than those who’ve come before at this particular location. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We absolutely love Spanky’s. The grilled porkchop sandwich can’t be beat! It’s always tender and juicy and grilled over an open flame. I always ask for bbq sauce and grilled onions to be added to mine. Their fries are also great, they are crinkle cut, something I love and can’t seem to find in Rockford. The gyro plates are very good, the meat very flavorful and juicy. The service is great and you get your food quick. The place is always clean and the employees are awesome. They have a huge menu, I recommend for anyone to stop by, I’m positive they have something you will like.

After working with my mom for a week, I went from laughing at the name of this place to having had it twice and craving more… Just down the street from the Mulford and Harrison intersection, this restaurant took the building that had previously been a Quiznos(among others). Both times I walked over, it was quite busy with a lunch rush. Both my mother and I eat like birds, so we split a gyro meal.(Note: NOT the gyro combo. It seems the combo is more expensive, includes fries but doesn’t include a drink, whereas the meal includes fries and a drink and is less money. Who knows…) A decent sized gyro(definitely enough for us to split), and plenty of fries, that were freshly cooked and the right amount of crispy, made for a great meal. I had to wait for about 5 minutes each time for my meal, but they had plenty of seating space. The second time the Coke was out and they were incredibly quick and nice about refilling the syrup even though they were pretty busy. Great food and good service have me craving gyros lately and will bring me back here for more.
