We love Stone Eagle, the food is spectacular and prices are so affordable. We have been treated so very nice like family. Jimmy Vitale is always so gracious to everyone. I would refer this restaurant to anyone!!! Fantastic

We had really good steaks, calamari, and passable carbonara. The atmosphere is really cool, albeit on the loud side. Also, we were promptly seated on a Saturday night. However, our server was inattentive and we felt that she was angry for some reason or another.

We have been here a handful of times and everytime seems to get worse. Servers that are slow, messing up orders, bringing out cold food because they forgot to put in the appetizers. We had the head server and I have no clue how she even got that position. I’m very hard on servers, since I was for a many years. I will give you a break once if not twice. But after that it’s time for me to find another place to celebrate special occasions with my honey. And Thank You to the manager who took off more than 50% of our food.

I use to love this place but it went downhill so bad the last year or so. I took my date there last night and it was a horrible experience from beginning to end. First they sat the two of us in the underneath this old hanging motorcycle that had dust and crap falling off of it on to our table. They didn’t even ask us if we wanted to sit in the bar. Then our waitress was rude and ignored us as she kept talking to her friends at the bar. Our food was absolutely the worst!!! They brought out my Mac and cheese uncooked completely! They forgot to cook it! Not kidding! The Cajun chicken panini was missing half the ingredients that was suppose to be on it. It was just chicken, barbecue sauce on horrible panini bread. My girlfriends pasta was horribly bland and disgusting. The only think good was our drinks. Then one of our drinks slid off the table and splashed us because the just set the drinks down on wet table in martini glasses that float around. Never going there again!

went there sat night. no wait although is was getting busy. big place with lots of bric a brac on the walls. oyster bar, but didn’t try any. attentive waitress. decent wine and beer list. my wife ordered the wood fired pizza which she sent back as she likes it crispier. they fixed it with no problem. the pizza is ok, nothing special. I got the salmon burger, which isn’t a burger at all, its a salmon filet on a bun. it was also just ok. the best part where the brussel sprouts side dish. would I go back? maybe but there are better options in Rockford in the same price range.

Food was pretty disgusting, stay away from any seafood. My walleye tasted like a piece of rubber dipped in butter. Burgers are ok. Overall do not recommend and we won’t be going back after 3 visits.

I’ve been here 4 or 5 times on my visits home and it is NOT consistent. In July, my meal was great. This week, it was horrible. Ordered the rockfish and shrimp tacos — as a California girl, I should know better than think a midwest restaurant can make a good fish taco! The avocado was mostly black… and yellow green. What surprised me is that they served it looking like that. The food was bland, and they didn’t carry Tapatio or Cholula(tabasco doesn’t count…). On the other hand, the service was great. The waitress and hostess tried to make things better, but the food was beyond help!

I have never seen steaks offered in such a large portion. I had the 24oz T-bone steak and it was excellent! I could taste the smoke from the grill. Everyone here was nice and more than helpful, they even had a great sense of humor!

I strongly encourage everyone to avoid this place like the plague. BAD service, bland food and expensive prices. Walked in, got seated right away, the place was kinda interesting. I was looking at the ceiling, dollar bills pinned to the ceiling… I asked my date wth? The waitress arrived, we placed our order, an appetizer and two entrees. About 30 minutes later, the entrees arrived and we asked the waitress where the appetizer was, she had completely forgotten about it and asked if we still wanted it and of course we didn’t. She luckily offered us a free tiramisu dessert(it wasn’t that good). So the food looked somewhat presentable. Opened my napkin to get my utensils and my knife and fork still had food on them and it was on the napkin to. Luckily my date being the gentleman went to the bartender and got me clean silverware. My date got the stroganoff with garlic potatoes and I’m sorry it didn’t look the greatest and he even stated it wasn’t the best. I ordered the chicken cabonara with seasoned fries. The fries were shoestring, they looked appealing but were unseasoned, somewhat cold and hard as a rock. I was like ok well hopefully my pasta is better, it wasn’t. The chicken was the only good thing I ate ALL night. The sauce was so bland that even covered in pepper it still had no flavor. My glass was empty over ½ of the time we were there, she never refilled my drink. Finally we had finished forcing the food down and we sat and we waited till the waitress came and offered boxes for our food. She saw I hadn’t even touched my fries and I explained they were horrible and I wouldn’t take any home. Our plates were moved and we sat and waited for over 20 minutes till the bill was brought to us. We spent 1.5 hours at this place and only spent 20 minutes actually eating, the rest was waiting.

I just have eaten here recently, and I will say stay away from this place clearly. The service was lousy(they forgot the appetizer i ordered and went straight for the entrees), the food was quite bland. I will also note that the knife they had given to eat on was filthy. I will not go back and eat here again.

We have gone into Stone Eagle a couple of times since my review in 2012 and I need to update on our most recent experiences. Both visits were on a Saturday for lunch. Both times we sat in the lounge area and both times Patty took great care of us. We were reluctant to visit again since our previous experiences have been lacking… and to a small degree they still are as far as the food is concerned. The food is not consistent. But, now that we know what to order and where to sit… we are enjoying running in there for some Bloody Mary’s and shrimp. We always get a large scoop of steamed Old Bay shrimp and have been enjoying those very much lately. The BM’s are great for the price and Patty is exceptional… friendly, interested in us and our experience and attentive. I also have to say that I love seeing a Manager available to the diners and aware of what is happening. That seems to be a fantastic improvement. I am not quite ready to venture into the regular dining room… but we are comfortable in the bar area and will grab Patty when she is there for some great conversation and service and delicious shrimp and Bloody Mary’s at a reasonable price.

Sadly the majority of reviews for Rockford’s Stone Eagle on Unilocal are negative for a wide variety of reasons, and they are mostly correct. The food, the service, the menu, the ambiance and the prices are all in need of significant improvement. I so wanted the Stone Eagle to live up to its hype, to its décor, to its Rockford heritage and Jim V.‘s reputation but it doesn’t. The Stone Eagle is a serious disappointment. Until they get their act together, and I hope they do soon, there are many better options in Rockford.

We have been going to Rockford for YEARS with soccer and finally in my last year come upon a great restaurant! Great casual dining, kid friendly. We were able to eat outdoors in a cute garden-like area. Granted it was near the parking lot, but they did a great job at creating a nice outdoor dining space. We had great service, the staff was friendly. Food was very good and prices were reasonable. Recommend.

For those how looking for a review that tells you what you want to know about this place I will try my best. I eat here and was not impressed but my selection of food. I had fish. It was bland and just missing something not sure. The calamari was greasy. No one at the table enjoy your meal I feel like they owe us money for eating at the restaurant but the service was friendly I’m very attentive to the kids but you don’t go there to have your kids impressed you go there for a good meal and they just did not have it this is one that I would skip

Bad food, bad service, expensive prices. Or as my friend said, «They only thing fresh here are the mints.» We went in for dinner for a double date. Me and my friend’s husband ordered some type of fish. Our fish was cold, greasy, and flavorless. We returned it. Not to mention the service was sooooo slow it took about an hour for this to happen. We were starving and did not want to spend an hour for them to fix a bad dish. Never received an apology from the manager. No discount. We barely saw our server. Bad bad bad. Go to Chilis. Have a taco.

Love this place! Food was wonderful! ! The steak special, one of the best cuts of meat I ever had. Also love the chili, Bleu cheese apple salad, & fried calamari. The bartender(in pretty yellow shirt) makes a mean Hurricane! ! This place is awesome, not to mention the museum-like décor! Love it!

This was my second or third visit to the restaurant and was not great at all. On the plus side the server and manager were friendly. The«onion rings» which are known as onion straws other places were alright, but I’d save yourself the money. My husband had the chicken portabella tortellini, with cold chicken and only 4 mushroom pieces. I had the«crab» stuffed whitefish which was more like a ton of butter with imitation crab, a lot of bread crumbs and a teeny but of fish I think. All I could taste was butter and bread crumbs though. Truly one of the worst meals ever. The manager did comp it and offer a replacement dish which was nice. Also to promote their new steak dishes, they were showing a plated steak dinner which would be great if it were fresh, but instead it was old. Not a good look to entice you to buy a $ 30+ dinner. All in all, probably not going back any time soon.

Traveling through Rockford we discovered the Stone Eagle Tavern just by chance and pulled in for a quick bite to eat. From the looks of the place, I thought it had to be some new multi-chain restaurant. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised and wrong. The business is family owned and this restaurant is one of two by the same name. The newest being in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. We were warmly greeted and ushered to a very nice booth in the Tavern part of the restaurant. Our server(Jenny) was cheery, attentive and quick with suggestions and service. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary and I had a couple Green Line beers from the tap. We ordered the half and half starter, which consisted of calamari and onion rings, with dipping sauce. I’ve paid $ 14.00 for Calamari and what I received were a few rubbery pieces. I am happy to report that what we received was a platter full of calamari and shaved onion rings. Cooked perfectly, fresh and delicious! While we were waiting for our starter the Proprietor(Mr. V) of the restaurant stopped by to see if we had any questions and to thank us for coming in. He shared with us how some of his favorites were prepared and made some recommendations based on what we like. This kind of «old school’ attention to patrons is exactly what my Mother taught me to expect and appreciate from a non-chain restaurant. Shortly after our starters showed up and Mr. V returned with two side dishes of his fathers favorite pasta dish called pasta carbonara(with bacon and peas). It was a very kind gesture and between the calamari and the pasta, I found myself devouring it all with great zeal. I am not a pasta person but I simply could not stop eating it — the flavors were perfectly balanced. For our main meal(yes we ordered and ate more) my wife ordered the chicken apricot and brie cheese sandwich with a side of sauteed brussel sprouts, and cheesy fries. My wife eats like a mouse and she commented that she was full but just didn’t want to stop as it all tasted so good I ordered a 12oz cheese burger, with bacon and yes, cheesy fries. At this point I had started to reach my limit and I was thinking perhaps I should take the rest home and leave room for dessert. Anyone that enjoys eating out knows that dessert is always a consideration when you are presented with a quality meal. It just doesn’t seem right to not wrap things up on a sweet and indulgent note. Mr. V swung by our table again to check on how we were doing. I commented how great everything was and asked him for a recommendation for dessert. His eyes lit up as he shared a story of his families Rum Cake and a couple other recommendations. I told him I am all in on the rum cake and he stated he would prepare it for us himself. Before our waitress(Jenny) could come back to take our order for dessert, she returned with two servings of Rum Cake, two cups off coffee with cream and sugar. It was perfectly orchestrated and we appreciated the initiative. By now, I am thinking how great it will be when I am back home, relaxing and reflecting on what a great day I had with my wife and our visit to the Stone Eagle Tavern. We had a wonderful experience. When it was time to leave, our server had all our sides boxed up and put in nice paper carry out bags, we didn’t even have to ask. Was I surprised that this kind of service existed in Rockford? Hell yes but not as much as when I saw the bill. I was shocked at how much food we received for such an affordable price. I have paid more than double this in the past at other restaurants only to leave totally dissatisfied and frustrated. The entire staff at Stone Eagle Tavern(Rockford) deserve a round of applause. If this is the level of service they typically provide their every day customers, then we will be back again. We are already planning on visiting Stone Eagle Tavern in Hoffman Estates,(IL) and I look forward to Unilocaling about that visit — I am sure it will be another fantastic experience. P. S. If you check in on Unilocal while you are at Stone Eagle Tavern you will receive an instant $ 5 discount. Two Thumbs Up!

Good beer(Southy Bitch Slap), really good food(fish tacos) and nice atmosphere. Fish and shrimp tacos were very good. The waitress recommended the tacos and she was right. The mangoes and salsa were the right mix of spicy with a hint of sweet. And the shrimp and fish were perfectly cooked. The side of mac and cheese was super cheesy… in a good way. My husband had the haystack burger with fries. He enjoyed them both. I really wanted to try dessert, but I was too full. :(Next time!

I come to Rockford on a monthly basis for work and on State St, restaurants are a dime a dozen. This was my second time at Stone Eagle, and definitely won’t be my last. What brought me in was the check-in offer. $ 5 off $ 20, I’ll take it! Now, the décor is a little, strange? The outside seems like an older castle but the food is a mix of American and Creole, not sure what to think of that. We sat in the bar area where there is a mix of older barstools, wooden thatched chairs surrounded by walls covered in motorcycles and animal heads with a neon trimmed ceiling. I don’t know if it’s a diner, tavern, man basement? But don’t let this turn you off, we’ve all been confused. As soon as I saw the triple pig, I knew I had to have it.(What diet?) Pork tenderloin on top of bacon on top of ham topped off with an egg… seriously? And Anthony Bourdain claimed it the best sandwich he’s ever had. That guy knows a few things about food. Now I may not say it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had but it was pretty darn close. It was a little dry, maybe if the egg were cooked less, it would have given the sandwich the blend I was looking for. But this is where my mistake was made: I ordered the cream spinach. I’ll preface by saying I love cream spinach but this was nasty, gross, disgusting. Apparently they put nutmeg in their cream spinach, and that’s all I could taste. Luckily our waitress was very understanding and replaced it with a much, much better coleslaw. My gf ordered the South Beach Burger. The patty was so big, it was hanging over the bun. The patty was topped with pulled pork and melted cheddar. The BBQ sauce was appropriate, not too overpowering. It was a great burger. Our experience with the staff couldn’t have been better. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and the general manager came over to take our Unilocal deal, also great to talk to. Definitely check this place out, the menu is so big and there’s something for everyone.
