As you see in the reviews, dogs on a grill cooked with peanut oil, onions cooked along side, chili and cheese available as well, put in steamed rolls! Wasses is a part of downtown Rockland, even if i don’t stop, love the smell driving by! The best hot dog the world!

I try to make it point to stop for a hot dog at Wasses whenever we vacation in the immediate area. I learned long ago that unless you specify otherwise, ordering means it will be finished with mustard, relish and grilled onions. Prices remain acceptable and the lines continue, but this day’s doggie and onions could have remained on the grill longer.

It’s hot dogs cooked on flat top in peanut oil. Was a little short on my expectations yet still very good and affordable. They use canned chilli, cheese sauce but again, very tasty considering. I’d stop again for quick and affordable. They do close at 5 p.m. which is awful early, feel they’d really kill it if they were open to 8 or 9 p.m.

The classic place you need to eat at. Been coming here for about 12 years now. They are a little pricey for a hot dog but you get what you pay for. Fast, soft buns, quality Dawgs, and exactly the toppings you like. My favorites are kraut with onions and mustard and the onions, mustard and spicy relish. Fries are always good too. They have 4 locations(Belfast, Damariscotta, here, and one other. Grab some Dawgs and head down to Pickle Park(it has a real name but I can’t remember it) … It’s right back down the road towards Camden and overlooks the ocean. Unbeatable.

Cheap, fast and good. Nothing fancy just a hotdog stand but really fast. My husband was in heaven!

I usually LOVE Wasses, and always have, since it was a cart. Even when I lived in Los Angeles and even now that I live in Washington, DC, whenever I come home I go to Wasses. But today I went to Wasses in Rockland and was so disappointed. The bun and the toppings were still good, but did they change hot dogs? The hot dog just was not good. I guess I will only go to the Belfast location from now on.

Peanut oil makes all the difference! The dogs and onions are cooked on a perfectly seasoned grill with the peanut oil — add mustard and relish and that’s all you need on a steamed New England bun. The dogs have a great snap to them. Don’t even bother with other accoutrements. The line at the window moves quickly in the event you see one. If you’re looking for the best hot dog in Maine, it’s here.(Sorry Flo!)

Wonderful hot dogs, prices have gone up slightly in my years of attendance which is unfortunate and would be sad to see them go higher, but this definitely doesn’t detract from their splendid taste! I don’t recommend the fries, but hot dogs are always great :)

Great hot dogs that taste better than most. The fries were pretty good and decent prices all around!

My hotdog was disappointing considering the high reviews here. The chili is a soupy processed mess. The hotdog is tasty but small. Friendly service and easy parking.

Seriously? It’s a hot dog. It’s a small hot dog. It’s not an especially good hot dog. And it’s $ 2.50. With the(grocery-store quality) kraut, make it $ 2.75. So two little kraut dogs(worth about six bites from this place) will run you $ 5.50(plus tax). That’s just shy of a buck a bite. Again, seriously? The reviews here on Unilocal are comical. Go down the road to Wiscasset, stop at Red’s, and pay $ 2.00 for two vastly larger, tastier hot dogs. Do it on principle if nothing else.

A great place to grab a bit to eat quickly. If you are in the area you must have it at least once! Growing up in Maine we used to stop into Wasses almost once a week.(Mostly on the weekends when we were shopping in town.) My mouth is watering as I type this! Yummy!

Not very impressed with Wasses. Have heard people rave about their griddled hot dogs, but Wasses didn’t do it for me or my wife. I tried the kraut dog and the cheese dog. The sour kraut and grilled dog were ok. The cheese dog, which basically was a grilled dog saturated w/cheese whiz was a major disappointment.

Incredibly tasty griddled hot dogs. Steamed bun. Chili cheese(both from a pump) combine to create an amazingly satisfying hot dog. Kraut dog is plentiful with a sour style cabbage, awesome. Order two, you will definitely want another.

Fantastic hot dogs and fries! I also love that they steam the buns instead of grilling or toasting them. Love that chili and that cheese.

Amazing. FAST, delicious, no pretension, heart-stopping hot dogs. Cheese fries are good too. The Western Dog and Bacon Cheese Dog are my go-to’s, but all the varieties are great. A local institution. Do not miss.

There’s really nothing more satisfying than a Wasses hot dog. Except another one. Took the family for lunch on Saturday — eight dogs, two with ketchup only(for the toddler), two with ketchup, mustard and relish(for the mother-in-law), two with chili, cheese*, and kraut(one for the wife, one for me), and two Westerns(baked beans, bbq sauce, bacon, and other stuff)(one for the wife, one for me). An order of fries, and one each white milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, and coffee milk. The dogs are just so GOOD and satisfying. We all love them so much. We also love the sign — «We PROUDLY cook in peanut oil.» So all you nut allergists, get lost. People in Maine probably don’t have nut allergies, anyway.

My gf’s godmother’s daughter swore by these hot dogs. «They snap when you bite into them ! «is what she told us. I don’t remember them snapping but they were enjoyable. I can’t say they were the best I’ve had(that spot is held by Costco) but I am sorry that we only got to eat there once. We were told by my gf’s godmother that is gets really busy after all the lobster men come in for the morning and she was right. All of a sudden there was a swarm of grizzly, hard looking dudes all lined up to place an order. And if hard working, burly guys eat these wieners they gotta be good.

I come to Wasses everytime I travel through Rockland so I’m familiar with their good hot dogs. This time I decide to try something different. I ask the woman behind the counter, «If you had to choose…» She then stops me and says, «How about this, I’ll make you one of my „specials“ for free and if you don’t like it I’ll make you something else.» Free. Of course. I then received my cornucopia of mixed meat heaven. Hot dog, strip of bacon, grilled onions, spicy relish, and processed cheese(pictured above). Wow, so good I went back and ordered another one(paid for this time). Just the fact that she outright decided to give me a dog for free and THEN gave me the best dog I’ve ever had from there made me a fan for life. Other small businesses should take notes from Wasses. It’s not a surprise that they’ve been around forever.
