So happy we found this local farm! They have produce co-ops and raw«pet» milk!!! Also, they have an incredible corn maze every year for their fall festival along with many other activities. You have to check them out if you are in the area!

Despite incredible Sunday morning dehydration, we had to get in on the fall corn maze action this weekend. We drove out to the middle of noooowhere to check out Carlton Farms, where they have pumpkins, a corn maze, hayrides, all that awesomely fall stuff you have to do at least once a season. The drive was a depressing example of rural highway life, but once we got out there it was absolutely gorgeous. I’m no aficionado, but the corn maze was a blast. They carved(mowed? sickled?) the maze into the outline of the Mt. Rushmore carving and set up check points with different hole punchers at each station so you can document your directional abilities. There was also a little tower where you can see the entire maze, complete with the hills in the background, the corn silo, and little farm houses. By sheer luck we found the tower at sunset and at least to these city-weary eyes, it was genuinely beautiful. Downside. One big downside. Apparently we had the«not from around here» look about us and were FOLLOWED by a middle-aged redneck employee for our last 45 minutes in the maize. He was literally hiding in the corn watching us. I thought we were just being silly until I rounded a corner and saw him duck into the corn as he spotted me. My friend then saw him crouching several feet away in the corn. He then exited the maze 30 seconds after we did. I don’t know if you know a lot about mazes, but what I learned is that following someone in a maze is not easy, you have to be intentional about it. That’s kind of the point. And while they do offer a haunted maze, this was ostensibly not it. Presumably they thought we were smoking, shooting up heroin, or voting for Obama, but regardless, we were 6 adults. A simple«If you are doing that, please stop» would have sufficed. It was extremely disconcerting in that not-so-funny Deliverance kind of way.
