I played a delightful 9-holes at Goose River golf course just outside of Camden Maine this morning. If there is golf in the highland woods of Scotland, it is likely to be like this. Beautiful lush rolling fairways somewhat steep in places but not manicured smooth. Small tough greens. A treat and a bargain

This is a beautiful public golf course located just outside of Camden and 10 – 15 minutes from Rockland. Play after 5 P. M and this place can be cleared out(discount rates too — I paid $ 12 for 9 holes this evening!) Though I believe the peak season rates for AM tee times range from $ 25-$ 38 depending on whether you play 9 or 18. The well-stocked clubhouse has a cool rustic vibe, reminiscent of a summer camp cabin with its’ classic woodsy smell. Outside of the clubhouse, there is an expansive deck area with great views that overlook the Camden hills. The course was in good shape — the majority of tee boxes and greens were sparkling, which is impressive considering this appears to be a small family run place. Plenty of elevation change on many of the holes and some truly challenging Par 5s — I think the 1st hole was a 550 yard dogleg left. This is effectively a 9 hole course with 9 greens, but there are additional tee boxes(complete with well labled back nine hole signs) that allow a second round through to feel like a fresh 9. Don’t miss it!
