Good wine selection, excellent food! My husband raved about the onion soup, French fries among the best. A nice addition to Rockville Towne Center!

Ev & Maddy’s originally piqued my interest based on the drink descriptions listed on the sandwich board outside the restaurant. Even though the drink menu enticed me inside, the lunch menu was just too sparse and bland. Ev & Maddy’s lunch menu offers a few Hors d’oeuvres mainly consisting of either cheese or meat. The fried quail Hors d’œuvre costs $ 18. At that price point, it should be listed as an entrée. They also offer two soups, some salads, tartines, crepes, and omelets. The overall offerings are similar to that of Le Pain Quotidien. I ordered the Arugula & Apple salad with toasted walnuts, goat cheese, and herb cream. The salad was fine, but nothing memorable. My friend ordered the Roast Beef Tartine with remoulade and radish. Both of us agreed, this was an overall average experience.

These are the moments where I wish Unilocal had that half star, because I would totally give this place the extra half star. We came here on a whim and were seated immediately. My fiancé had come before and asked if I wanted to try it. I hesitantly said I would try it, and, I have to say, I am very happy we came. The duck confit appetizer was excellent and the pork belly dinner was also very good. A bottle of wine was very reasonable, and my fiancé loved the beef bolognese, especially the home made noodles. Great place for a date. Even met a nice couple sitting next to us! Would totally come back. Also, I noticed people taking about the service on Unilocal. Not sure if they came on an off night, but I feel we received very attentive service from all of the staff working the floor.

Ev & Maddy’s serves up delicious food in a warm and cozy environment. We went there with another couple and we could actually hear each other. Our server was helpful and courteous.

Just had a great lunch here and can’t wait to go back and try their dinner options. The highlight of the meal was definitely the pâté de campagne. Even better than my favorite up til now, the pâté at red apron/the partisan. Just really yummy and well seasoned. We also had the onion soup and asparagus soup(soup of the day) and they were both tasty. Another special, the roast beef tartine was also a hit. The roast beef was moist and really flavorful. The kids roast chicken was also really well done and not rubbery/bland like so many places. The portion sizes were generous and the service was warm and friendly. We have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old who can both be very picky but they cleared their plates and the 3 yr old said she was happy because she liked all the food. There is no higher praise than that.

I am obsessed with this place. First time eating here was three days ago and I’m bringing friends tonight. The music was great, waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was outstanding! There is a modern twist to the ambiance and the flavors. The kale pesto and mushrooms is sooooo good. So are all of the salads. I can’t wait to be able to have tried everything. The wine selection is minimal but well chosen.

Good service but excruciatingly long wait and over cooked duck breast made it a not so pleasant dining experience. And we were one of the two tables here.

I give the duck breast a B– and their soups(french onion soup and fish/seafood cream soup) C+. Although they do offer steak(filet mignon, new york strip, and some others I’ve forgotten), it is not listed on their menu but is spoken verbally by the waitress as «specials» which forces the patron to either choose amongst them without knowing the prices or embarrassingly asking for the prices. Like, come on. If you are offering steak on a consistent basis add it on the menu so we can read what is offered. The poor rating is due to the uncomfortably long wait times for the food to be made. It took over an hour from placing orders to having the food arrive. Other dinner parties around us made comments on how long the food was taking and asked for checks beforehand… it was just an overall uncomfortable experience. Friday night and the place was about 30% full so it certainly was confusing.

There is a certain expectation, a certain way that you think food should look and taste when you go to a restaurant and this place did not dissapoint! French food at its finest! The Garam Masala Duck Breast was perfect, The sauce was perfect, and a perfect size too. Check out How many more times can I say perfect? My second mommy/foodie mom, chose the Boeuf Bourguignon and it was delicious. The beef was tender, the sauce was saucy and balanced. Her only complaint was there wasn’t enough vegetables. Lastly, the Ginger Crème Brulee was good, but it’s the reason they only get 4 stars instead of 5. It tasted fine, but I guess when they said Ginger, they meant light on the crème and heavy on the ginger. My second mommy said the French press coffee was actually worth drinking though.

We had dinner there after reading a number of good reviews on Unilocal and were surprised to experience a cavernous, badly lit, un-attractive restaurant that had literally no atmosphere and was quite over priced. I have been in the food business for over thirty years and could advise the owners on how to save this place but I doubt they will make it with the food alone even though it was quite good. The lighting is seriously terrible making me feel like you are in a cafeteria and the menu is typical French with a yawn. There was nothing that stood out on the menu but here is what we ordered; their soup of the day(delicious: combination of eggplant, tomatoes and spices. Very tasty) frisée salad and beef bourguignon. The salad was very good with a perfectly poached egg and delicious vinaigrette but the beef was a tiny portion of dry, overcooked meat with no mushrooms or bacon which is what this dish is classically made with. For the price($ 17) the beef was a real disappointment — and my husband, who usually eats everything left some of it on his plate. We had to ask for bread twice and the service although friendly was a bit amateur. There was nothing on the dessert menu — crème brûlée and ice cream –that called out to us and I wonder if they will be in business a year from now.

What an adorable little spot for some delicious and simple French cuisine. My friend and I stopped in during lunch, solely to try the duck breast and saw that it wasn’t offered on the lunch menu! The server was very professional, polite, and accommodating so we chanced to ask if the chef could have an exception. He made it happen, we ordered the pâté appetizer, which was quite a generous portion, steak tartine, and the wild mushroom and onion crêpe which were all extremely delicious, and very flavorful. Not to mention their Dark & Stormy drink was spot on. Would definitely come back over trekking all the way over to Old Towne Alexandria if I’m craving French again

If BonChon next door is too heavy for your night palette, check out this new little french place. Drink specials were really tasty. The Boeuf Bourguignon was a bit tough and bread would have been a good buffer for the saltiness and the soup. The Garam Masala Duck Breast was pretty good. The pickled onions for the pork shoulder pizza was overwhelming, and you couldn’t taste the pork, removing most of it helped.

My wife and I returned to Ev & Maddy’s last night. We had not been in a couple of months. This young restaurant is doing good things. Butter lettuce salad, onion soup, beef bourguignon were great, the duck breast was stellar. We drank a few glasses of decent Côte de Rhone. The atmosphere is «bistro» nice, if a little loud for a small place. Our waitress was energetic and delightful and her service was good. We hope this restaurant continues to grow in terms of its dining room service. Bringing drinks before asking for the dinner order, flourishes like fresh pepper with salads, and skilled bus staff will make a positive impact. A bit more depth and creativity on the wine list would be welcome too. This restaurant is worth your patronage. It is exactly what our area needs — it is family owned by a young couple that care about their food and customers. Make a reservation and enjoy!

Several of my most trusted Unilocal friends have reviewed Ev & Maddy’s and noted issues regarding their customer service. Ever since, I have been a bit hesitant to jump in and give them a shot. This past week, I decided to take the plunge and go. After all ever since Ev & Maddy catered to the Unilocal elite event, I was intrigued about what they had to offer. To make sure there is no confusion, Ev & Maddy’s serves Noveau/Fusion French food. For my appetizer, I sampled the duck confit. Contrary to what you would get at most French restaurants, Ev & Maddy’s version was shredded in strips and came with seasoned salad and cucumbers. I was a bit taken by surprise and I think the seasoning and flavoring worked very well with the exception that the duck was a tad bit too salty. On the other hand, I was extremely impressed with my main dish, a medium rare hanger steak. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and had hints of balsamic glaze. All of the condiments, the cipollini onions, roasted cauliflower, parsnip purée were fantastic additions to the dish. I’d have to say this is my most favorite hanger steak that I tried in the DMV area so far and I highly recommend this to anyone who comes to Ev & Maddy’s. Thankfully for my visit, I had great customer service and I found the food portions to be adequate. For most, however, I could see that the food portions are going to be way too small and I see this becoming the number 1 complaint of people who will review Ev & Maddy’s in the future. If you take into consideration the low prices and the expensive Town Center rent, it makes complete sense that they would have to limit the portions. You should keep this in mind if you decided to pay them a visit.

A brilliantly simple, endearingly French menu with some modern twists. I stopped in for happy hour, and thus can only speak to the taste of the small plate offerings, but what I did have(well-balanced charcuterie, a pleasantly refreshing vichyssoise, and a mixed green salad with shaved parmesan and a tart but delightful vinaigrette) was enticing enough to warrant another trip. If you happen to be wandering around Town Center, or are generally nearby and haven’t been, do check it out. Reasonable prices, convenient location(if a bit on the edge of the block), and an interestingly rustic/industrial décor that manages to complement conversation and dining. Being a genuinely independent shop with a range of local offerings just makes it that much better.

I created a Unilocal account specifically to be able to give Ev & Maddy’s a good review. My husband and I love this place, and we’ve been meaning to write reviews(he just wrote his). Ev & Maddy’s is a family business, with food that tastes like it should cost more than it does. I can’t think of a better way to put it than my husband, «creative but not pretentious», and seriously delicious! The owners seem like awesome people, and the relaxed atmosphere is great. We love the duck, the arugula & apple salad, and the specials have been pretty uniformly awesome. If they have their rhubarb tart, get it, it’s insane. They have a few really great beers on tap too, which I appreciate. Their happy hour is probably the best kept secret in Rockville — you can get gourmet food & beer on the cheap, we can’t believe more people haven’t caught on yet(but Ev & Maddy’s is pretty new). I’ll also say the same negative as my husband, which is that the service isn’t always as top tier as the rest of it, but you know what? It’s always friendly, and seems to be improving anyway, so you should eat here. This place kicks ass.

Went to Ev & Maddy’s for lunch the other day with my sister and was pleasantly surprised! Although there were not a lot of people there, we both enjoyed our food and had good service. I had the proscuitto and arugula tartine– which was very tasty. They even cooked the proscuitto for me since I am pregnant, very accommodating. My sister had the chicken salad tartine and also enjoyed hers. The fries were hot and crispy– can’t go wrong there. Overall– definitely a place I would return for a quick, tasty, and fresh lunch!

Ditto what my brother and Hannah said, the front of the house, needs lots of work! It makes me think about returning or not. The décor: place looks nice, I think it’s the same furniture from previous restaurant, but added some french bistro accents. The food. Real good. Fine dining where every dish is less than $ 20. Great value and would have even tasted better if food came out sooner(took about 45 min to get our entrees) and warmer. My duck was semi lukewarm as was my brothers wife’s steak. But the flavors and food tasted great. Skip the French onion soup though(needs lots of salt). The service. POOR. One poor nice guy doing everything. Making drinks, serving food, taking orders for entire restaurant. I don’t know why on a Saturday night they don’t have a dedicated bartender(took forever to get our drinks), a food runner(maybe food would have arrived sooner?), and a busboy(our plates weren’t cleared as well as all the other tables where the patrons left). Rather unsightly imo. With an added staff the owners wife can properly be a great hostess as people waited for quite some time being acknowledged at front door. And we never gave us bread(the other tables did), no coloring books(previous review stated), clearing of our appetizer plates when entrees arrived, forgot my moms appetizer(it came out after we were all done with our apps but was comped), and no salt or pepper on tables. I know this has been only opened less than a month, and sure hope their service improves by adding more staff on weekend evenings, as the food was really good.

Food was really good but the front of the house really needs improvement. Came on a Saturday evening around 6:30 and the restaurant was ¼ full. By 7PM it was ¾ full and the service really suffered. One guy was the bartender and waiter for the entire restaurant. I felt so bad for him — you can tell he was really stressed out. The owner was very nice but she was working so hard to. What they really need especially for the weekend business is additional help. None of the tables that were occupied and left was cleaned and it took forever to get our food and drinks. They need a dedicated bartender and food runners that can serve the food and take away the dirty dishes. We had to put our pile of dirty dishes on another table that wasn’t cleared. I noticed the customers who came in before 6:30 all had bread on their tables. There was none served to us and to the other tables afterwards. My two kids didn’t receive any crayons or coloring books as another Unilocaler indicated. The food was really good, but because of lack of service, most of the entrees came out cold/lukewarm — such as the hanger steak and duck breast. The french onion soup was decent but it lacked salt and broth was really light. The owner told us the chef wanted to make a healthier version of french onion soup — I guess that’s ok. I really enjoyed the roasted half chicken and my parents enjoyed their rockfish. I recommend those two entrees. My daughter enjoyed the chicken nuggets– she ate all of them which is rare. I hope they can fix these front of the house issues as it takes away from the overall dining experience.

I was really excited to try out Ev & Maddy’s, as it’s owned by a husband-and-wife team, Chef Patrick Pak and his wife, Eunice. Chef Pak has cooked at other well-known DC restaurants, such as Blue Duck Tavern and Komi. They decided to open up a little French bistro, in the Rockville Town Center, and they’ve only been around since Feb 10th. The hubs and I came here for lunch, and we made sure that reservations were not necessary(just in case!). When we arrived, we waited a bit at the front; I believe it was the wife who greeted us after she noticed us standing there by the door and were told that we could choose any table to sit at. I really liked the high ceilings with the white-painted brick walls, showcasing black and white photographs. We were given the menu, and she told us to have a look over the drinks and such and left. The menu itself was limited, which I liked — they offer hors d’oeuvres, soups, salads, and tartines(which are served with house-cut fries), featuring items such as tarte flambee, roasted chicken breast, and a charcuterie plate. The hubs and I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited… we were completed ignored. The wife and the staff member were both busy having a ‘wine tasting’ up at the bar area — I saw some of the kitchen staff members, and I believe Chef Pak himself, who I’m sure had also noticed that we had yet to put our orders in. We tried flagging them down, but all the backs were turned from the dining area, as they were more engrossed in their conversation and their glasses of wine. There was one other party who was sitting towards the back, and they also noticed that we were waiting with no service T___T I could have understood if the place was packed, or if we were hidden from an obstruction of some sort, but the restaurant was almost empty. Another patron walked in, who was never greeted, and she also was waiting to be acknowledged. Both the hubs and I(me, especially) were extremely fed up that we just walked out, never even getting the chance to place our orders in(and, yes, the other patron was still waiting!!!). Bad service is one thing, but receiving no service? I am NOT a fan of that, and I find it unacceptable(considering that this is a new restaurant, you’d think they would step it up! Whether the place had been opened for a couple of days or it has been around for years, first impression counts!)). I hope others have a better experience; I wanted to give this place a shot, but for now, I’ve lost complete interest. +NOSERVICE T___T +owned by Chef Pak and his wife +French bistro +located in the Rockville Town Center
