Wow, there is a hidden room in the back! Cool place and warm staff. They were very accommodating when I came with a baby.

Pretty nice happy hour spot with affordable drinks and a friendly atmosphere! One of the guys behind the bar was super nice and can crack a few jokes. It is a dive bar so don’t expect something spectacularly fancy. Just chill out, have a beer and order a burger or whatever you like off the menu. I haven’t eaten the food here yet, but all that I have seen so far looks pretty tasty! I will be coming back to try something soon.

Hole in the wall dive bar. Bartenders are super chill and cool! Love coming here if I’m looking for a chill place with cheap drinks and a heavy handed bartender! ;)

We recently moved by this location and were thrilled to find this gem. We’ve only been to the bar and can’t speak to the main restaurant, but the bar is fantastic — nothing but outstanding service. We were pleasantly surprised when we first ordered food and now come back to eat regularly. The prices are excellent, beer is cold, served in large quantities, and it’s a great place to meet some locals and watch a game. So happy to have found our local hangout!

It is great to find a hidden gem, a friendly place that lives us to the idea of Cheers. Friendly. Great Drinks. Super Chow. Got to like it! Wish I lived right nearby.

If you are looking for a small dive with the best service from the friendliest staff, excellent food, and stiff drinks Jonathans is perfect for you! I have been frequenting this local watering hole for two months. I moved to Rockville in March and I am lucky I live near Jonathans, because it’s the best. You immediately feel like part of the crowd. There are many locals and regulars who are all very nice and welcoming. The bartenders are your new best friends. They remember you by name and talk with you on your first visit as if you had been coming for years. The beers are cold and the drinks are strong, so you are guaranteed to get your money’s worth and leave happy. They have drink specials frequently. Domestic bottles are $ 2.50 on Mondays and Wednesdays all day. The five TVs that surround the bar can play anything you would like to watch as you unwind from the day and socialize with the friendly staff and customers. The food at Jonathans is fantastic. You are free to eat at the bar or at one of the tables or booths in the bar area. They also have a big back room that could accommodate parties of around 50 – 75 or so. I was unsure what to expect on my first visit, but all of the food I have tried has been good. I highly recommend the Rubens and Gyros. The Ruben has perfectly buttery toasted bread, the thin shaved corned beef is always fresh, and it has just the right amount of ‘krout and dressing. The Gyro meat is as good as I have ever had. It’s shaved thin, super flavorful, and piled high. The guys in the kitchen are really nice and take pride in everything they put out. They will even come out and ask you how it is, and make it right if you are not completely satisfied. I can’t say enough about this place. By no means is it fancy, but just right if you are looking for a small quaint local pub. You can expect to make new friends right from the start, and may see me there!

Jonathans is your local neighborhood bar. It’s the modern-day Cheers where everyone knows your name. Décor is old school black white and red, the dining room sports all the original menu boards and 60’s beer memorabilia and signed pictures. Sure in today’s age everybody is looking for modern new hipster ambience but screw that, a heavy pour and good bar food always wins out!!! If you have a family, dining room is perfect totally separate from the bar. Their Jonathan special pizza spot on! Steak and cheese, Greek gyro wrap, Sante Fe, chicken bruschette and a tasty burger are some our favs. Drinks & food are reasonably priced and did I mention a heavy a pour :) Drink up, eat up and enjoy!

I hope they never close. The people are friendly. Their pizza is one of my favorites in the area. Will go out of the way to get it. It smells so good. Jonathan’s special w no meat. They have odd Saturday hours, but that’s their prerogative. People seem to be having a great time there.

Jonathan’s… The pub where everyone knows your name. From drinks that give you your money’s worth to outgoing and smart ass bartenders like Sean this place is a best kept secret and a hole in the wall that’s worth checking out.

My previous review of Jonathan’s has a lot more detail. This is an update based on my most recent experience. Jonathan’s has been a favorite place of mine for years, but unfortunately I can no longer eat gluten, and they have almost zero gluten-free items. I ordered a Greek salad but there was either gluten in the bottled Italian dressing they serve, or in their tzatziki sauce(I only had a tiny bit). I also had one french fry, which could have done it if it was cooked in the wrong oil. Typically these types of dressings and fries are okay, but their version is not. Either that, or there is just too much wheat in their kitchen — they do serve a lot of breaded items so it’s a possibility that there was cross contamination. The server was not knowledgeable about their items and she kept referring to «the gluten». She also said the Italian dressing label did not indicate«gluten». The ingredients label doesn’t typically mention gluten, it mentions wheat or a derivative of wheat. I will not be back only because they don’t cater to different dietary needs. The food is good if you can eat it but there is a lot of breaded items. Their gyro(veggie) and their salads are fantastic. They’re jut not safe for people who cannot have gluten. Other notes: The server I really liked doesn’t appear to work here anymore. Also, the venue smelled really funky like dirty mop water — everywhere

This place is interesting… I think everyone that goes there is great, although most people are insanely intoxicated. No one ever gets belligerent or rude. My boyfriend and I live rather close, so we go for Caps games, etc once in a while. The food is okay, nothing extraordinary but I am a fan of simple, American food so I’m totally fine with it. :-)

Hole in the wall — check. Local neighborhood bar — check. Major find — DEFINITELY. Why? Because it is completely free of the pretentiousness you find in all the corporate chain bars in the area, no one on the staff or at the bar makes you feel like an outsider for being not being a regular, the beer is ICECOLD, the menu is pretty diverse and the food is pretty much what you’d expect(ie. don’t go in looking for a gourmet experience). The best part of Jonathan’s is Sean. Low-key waiter, bartender, resident smart ass, thoroughly entertaining. Marilyn also knew her way around the menu which was pretty helpful.

Need to learn customer service! Rep have an attitude to just tell me they were closed. Bad for business. I was looking forward in getting food from here but have me a bad taste in my mouth!

I am giving Jonathan’s 5 stars because where else can you go in this entire county to a sit down restaurant, order 2 entrées, 2 drinks, include 15% tip and the total is $ 27? Wife and I dined there this past weekend and we both had the Gyro platter. Not only was the amount of food generous, it was good! I agree with the other reviews, Jonathan’s is a hidden gem!

What great service, friendly and attentive for us newbies. Initially I was disappointed that there were no craft beers, but then I almost slapped myself thinking it. Don’t be such a snob. PUBLICK House — come for the good times, touch tunes, good company. I was very happy with my very large Mug of Miller light, my husband had the Hoegaarden on tap. Love the dive-bar ambience. The back restaurant could hold larger parties and looks like it could get very lively on weekends and during Redskins games. Definitely a Redskins Bar. French Onion Soup: I agree with Sharon W. that this soup is great b/c it’s not too sweet. It’s nice and savory with creamy cheese browned on top. It doesn’t taste artificial or too salty like other failed French Onion Soups. Taco salad with beef: okay but I prefer my beef crumbled and not a broken up patty. Gyro platter: excellent. The meat was tender and moist. Pepperoni pizza: Crust was too dense and«crackery» for my taste but still good bar food and judging from the other reviewers, a lot of people like it.

Living in the DC-VA-MD metro area, you sometimes forget that there are still townie bars out there. A couple of my friends come to this townie bar on a somewhat weekly or biweekly basis. So I decided to join them recently. We started off in the dining area and had a couple mugs of beer and a burger for dinner. This room is a bit more quiet, so we were able to chat and catch up on each others’ lives. The beer was fine, the burger was decent, though nothing particularly spectacular. The fries were good though! After dinner, we moved to the bar area where they serve the larger steins of beers. You could tell who the regulars were and the bar staff were really nice and welcoming to any newbies like me by introducing themselves and all. It’s refreshing to know there are these divey establishments around where you can get cheap beer and no judgement when you walk into the door.

My husband works near this restaurant so when he can get away from the office we meet at Jonathan’s for lunch. It’s good pub food – hot crisp French fries, stuffed hoagies, fresh salads, and decent entrees. The French onion soup is really good – not too sweet like some places. At lunch time it seems like it’s mostly County employees and Leisure World residents mixed in with the regulars. Service is always good, we can get in and out in a reasonable amount of time since husband has to go back to work. Jonathan’s and Barnaby’s(in Wheaton now closed) were once owned by the same people and the menus are very similar if anyone is nostalgic for an «Old World Grinder» and fries.
