The homemade noodles with pork and hot peppers could have been great but the peppers were not hot peppers. The shrimp with mixed vegetables was inedible. Nothing else was better than ok. Took it to go, but that’s the last time. Used to be good. What happened?

We ordered the three cups chicken and shredded pork with black beans and jalapenos. As always, they did not disappoint. The flavor is very savory and very Taiwanese. The oil is just right and not greasy like many of the other Chinese places in the area. We also ordered the scallion pancakes and they were simply awesome when dipped with the chili and soy sauce. The pricing is and has always been a bargain. Two can dine just right for around $ 20 and splurge $ 30 or more. The service is very basic but adequate considering that this is a small family operated business. I am not promoting the place but this is one of best little hole in the wall restaurants and trust me, I have tried just about them all.

My favorite dish here is the Hainan Chicken with Rice. It’s a simple dish consisting of boiled chicken with rice and dipping sauce.(*Real Hainan Chicken with Rice comes with rice cooked in chicken broth. Here, they just give you white rice.) Nevertheless, delicious comfort food! Everything else on their menu is subpar. It used to be better, but quality has gone down a lot. Their noodle soups lack flavor. Soup dumplings were mediocre. The skin was a little too doughy and there was no soup inside. We also got the rice roll, which is super easy to make and has the cheapest ingredients(sticky rice, shredded pork fluff, pickled veggies, and fried bread stick). It’s supposed to have a long piece of fried bread stick the length of the roll, but instead they cheaped out and only put in a few pieces of cut bread stick, which has clearly been re-fried. Don’t know why we got it, but avoid the Shrimp Toast at all cost. Looks gross and taste even worse. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s never completely packed.

Extremely poor customer service! I placed a lunch order for shrimp with broccoli garlic sauce. It was an off the menu item, I confirmed twice that it can be made and was told no problem. However what I received was just broccoli and shrimp. I called back and was told sorry it was a mistake and we gave you the wrong order. I came in to get my money back because the wouldn’t delivery the correct order to my office and was asked as to why I didn’t bring back the item with me. Are you kidding me I asked for you to remake the item and you said no! So then I ate just broccoli with rice because I had nothing else to eat and no way of leaving my office. Then the owner asked me why I didn’t bring it back? I didn’t bring it back because it was half eaten at this point and I showed you a pic and you agreed it was just the broccoli. Maybe I should of played him back the conversation I had when I order the item. Also the sauce was not good this place has a long way to go with customer service since the owner doesn’t know how to treat customers. The lady who picked up the phone was nice and never mentioned once that I had to bring back the item and even asked if I would like a refund over the phone, I would have but I paid cash.

Excellent Taiwanese food. Best in the DC area. This is our go to when we are in the mood for some home cooking.

This place is awesome! They have these huge fish in this tank that are giant, and their tv’ show the best channels in my opinion. :) Their ‘Chinese pancakes’ are very crisp and delightful, and they’re a must order!

Spicy slow roasted beef noodle soup was fantastic! Great broth, noodles, greens, and a generous amount of tender beef medallions. Not super spicy so don’t worry about that. I added some chili sauce from the condiment tray to kick up the spice level. Great service too. I’ll be back.

I did not get anything with noodles and maybe that was my mistake… The hotpot with mixed meats was kinda gross. I even had to spit out one of the shrimp because it tasted so bad. The meat was absolutely nasty and frozen. The cucumber salad in hot sauce and Triple vegetables were good. However, the hot sauce was not hot at all and the cucumbers were basically sweet pickles. The shui Mai was at boring and mediocre. This was the second time I’ve went there and both times were disappointing. I don’t understand why that place is rated this high.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Haven’t had a bad dish yet. Get the House Crispy Beef and the Eggplant with Basil.

Michael’s Noodles Restaurant is located in the back corner of the Travilah Square shopping. I’d say that the service is good and food is good but not as good as other places in this area(e.g., A&J’s, Shanghai Taste, JD Shanghai Famous Foods). Today, we ordered Smoked Fish, Pickled Green & Shredded Chicken with Rice Cakes, and Boneless Chicken with Rice(Hainan Style). I’d say their dishes weren’t as strong in flavor nor as oily as before. The smoked fish was cold, slices of deep fried fish that were marinated in a sweet soy sauce. The Pickled Green & Shredded Chicken with Rice Cakes were as described — not too salty or oily. The Boneless Chicken with Rice consisted of boneless chicken with skin, special rice, and ginger sauce on the side. My other favorites include: Xiao Long Bao, Scallion Pancake, Drunken Chicken, Cold Shredded Jelly Fish, Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice, Da Lu Mein, Ground Pork with Bean Paste Sauce, Lo Mein, Pickled Green & Shredded Pork with Rice Cake, Taiwanese Rice Noodle, Pickled Green & Chicken Noodle Soup, Stewed Beef Noodle Soup, Beef with Broccoli, Sweet Pork Chops(Wu Xi Style), and Shrimp with Walnuts.

We continue to get both good food and good service from Michael’s noodles. The food had good strong flavors, the menu is extensive and everything is expertly prepared. I have heard from friends that this restaurant knows how to do the spicy. Their Kung Pao is about my limit but I know they can make their dishes very spicy if requested.

Authentic food from Taiwan. When I took my family to try it out, they also agreed it tasted really authentic. They have some options that is not available at AJ’s. And I agree, whole heartedly that they serve the beef noodle soup so far!

Unexpectedly good. You wouldn’t suspect that a restaurant in Travilah Center to be this good. The corners of the shopping center are pinned by a gas station, 7 – 11, and a Burger King. Truly, the trifecta of landmarks for a location you want avoid. Sure, Ledo’s in this center is an okay pizza place. Never go to Phở City. Just don’t. But Michael’s can be considered a diamond among the rough(I know, that’s not the expression). Tonight, the wife wanted noodles, so naturally I Unilocaled it and gave Michael’s a shot. Our friends have given it a good review in the past, but we just never ventured out here for fear of getting the wrong dishes. So, we stuck to some traditional Taiwanese fare. The kid wanted scallion pancakes as an appetizer. We ordered a bowl of the slow roasted beef noodle soup. A dish of crispy eggplant. And a dish of pan fried tofu with chicken, snow peas and mushrooms. The scallion pancakes were crunchy but a tad over fried. It was missing a bit of flakiness and short on actual scallions. The pan fried tofu dish was utilitarian in nature. Simple stir fry affair, with the typical slurry pan sauce. The stars of the meal were the beef noodle soup with tender cuts of beef, a hearty flour noodle, rich soup, topped with fresh spinach, cilantro and baby bok choy. The other dish was the crispy eggplant, lightly battered and fried to a crispy shell, then topped with a semi sweet sauce and garnished with bright red chili peppers. These two dishes were truly delightful. Service was lightning quick. The order went in and came out in about 5 – 7 minutes. The wait staff was attentive and courteous. The environment was dimly lit but it was suitable for a number of tables to carry on conversations. Overall, a pleasant, inoffensive meal in an otherwise aesthetically offensive location.

Unexpectation(yes, I enjoy making up words) ruled the two dishes that I took home last night. I generally prefer to dine out(in?), but after a day out, Crystal wasn’t up to going out in the cold even though she wanted phở. I didn’t want to play around with phở, and anyway I’d been wanting to try Michael’s Noodles’ famous Beef Soup. 1 star off for not showing me to a seat where I could wait for my order(I took a seat anyway at a table near the cash register) and for not offering me water or hot tea while I waited. On getting home, we were pleased to discover that Michael’s NOODLES cares enough about their noodles(and the amount of soup in the order) to put the noodles in a separate container. We were surprised that the soup, which contains pieces of thin, tender choy, as well as very tender and tasty, but a bit salty pieces if eponymous beef, is clear and mild(would love the weather to be like that ;-)), rather like an excellent wonton soup broth without the taste of MSG. We ladled it over the excellent noodles and ate the whole thing. It was just the right amount for the two of us, since I also got the shu mai. My mai! There were four inch-wide, inch-tall dumplings in the little container instead of the six smaller ones that one gets in most restaurants, but more surprising was that the filling in the open noodle-dough wrappers is not the usual minced shrimp or pork. Sticky rice! Very tasty sticky rice, delightfully made a little funky with just the right amount if little bits of dried shrimp. We loved it, and ate them all up, too. We’ll be back to dine-in(the food is hotter without reheating and I don’t have to do dishes) soon, preferably with friends or family, in which we’ll probably get the shu mai again, and try the spicy beef noodle soup as well as other dishes that we haven’t had. Oh, boy!

Came in on a cold winter Wednesday night and there were only two other families in the restaurant. There were still plenty of tables open. As soon as we came in, the waitress offered us tea. This was nice because it was ridiculously cold outside and I’m sure she understood that. The customer service was great on this day but I do remember on other days that the waitress would give some attitude. The food on this night was delicious. I ordered the beef noodle soup. I came out hot, which was nice on a cold day. In addition, the noodle came with plenty of beef(unlike many other restaurants). However, there was this one time that my dad was not happy with the seasoning and heating of how the food was cooked. But that may have been a fluke day. This place is actually worth the price you pay. I ordered the small pork buns which were also delicious. The speed at which the food was served was comparatively fast for a sit down restaurant. This is probably one of my favorite authentic Chinese restaurants in the area. Pro: food, serving speed, seating availability(depending on the day). Con: none at the moment. I would recommend this restaurant.

Probably the best chinese food option in the area. Definitely better than Gu Lin or Mama Wok. Quite honestly, I just went there today and I already forgot what tofu dish I got. I think it was home style bean curd, and it was pretty awesome. For $ 11 you get a huge portion of tofu in a great sauce. My brother got the crispy eggplant, which was also really tasty(i’d recommend splitting it w/someone since it’s fried, sweet, and heavy so difficult for one person to finish). A friend got the beef noodle soup, and though he said it needed some soy sauce he also said the meat was really good and he was happy with it. If you’re looking for chinese food in north potomac, definitely come here.

MICHAEL’S NOODLES — Review 7⁄10 Rockville, MD. If your tired of the same old PHO, Then this is your new spot! Full of fast & flavorful chinese inspired dishes, the waiter suggested I try their most popular noodle soup — SPICYSLOWROASTEDBEEFNOODLESOUP. It tasted like a fusion of traditional Japanese udon & grandma’s pot roast. My crazy half-Asian ass would of added potatoes, carrots and onions, with a side of buttered bread. Good enough to swing my wife by to see what she thinks. Food — 7 Service — 9 Kemo the Samurai

Solid Chinese food, but the service was lacking. Michael’s noodles is within a five minute drive of my fiancé’s parents’ house. This was one of the first restaurants that we went to when I first started going on Sunday brunch visits. I remember it being much better than it was the last time we went. The service seems to be quite hit or miss. My fiancé’s dad loved a woman who normally works there. He would ask her to bring out authentic & good tasting options, and she wouldn’t disappoint. The woman who we had serving us yesterday was brusque and not pleasant. There was little help with suggestions on the menu, water glasses were not refilled, we put out an amex to pay and she just said«mastercard, visa» as she walked by. She didn’t even stop to explain that they didn’t accept Amex. The food was not quite as good as I remembered but it was still pretty good. We ordered the sable fish with beans on it– this was a great dish, the only problem is that it was $ 26! They didn’t mention this on the menu, and it was substantially more than the typical offering. The fish was well cooked though and yummy to eat. Pepper chicken was a recommended dish. It was good, but not incredible. As my fiancé’s dad pointed out, it sort of tasted like popcorn chicken or chicken nuggets or something. This was the dish that they recommend from their restaurant? Eggplant with tofu was great. The only issue was that they put A LOT of oil and sauces in each of their dishes. This was most apparent in the eggplant and the squid casserole dish. Tofu soaked up the oil nicely. Squid casserole was interesting. Again, tons of oil. Fiancé’s dad asked for the dish to be spicy and it certainly wasn’t that. Finally, we got the kung pao beef which is a standard choice, but probably one of the better dishes that we chose. They get three stars because of past experiences and because the dishes were not bad. If we have another experience like yesterday though, it might necessitate changing the rating.

Went for dinner and the place was crowded but I was sat quickly and the delicious food came out fast and hot. The Szechwan shrimp and string beans were delicious with just enough heat to play with the tongue but not set it on fire. Very friendly staff. Extremely clean and the décor was lovely.
