Not a fan at all. Nothing like most hibachi places. White sauce also was not good(main reason for wanting hibachi), very watery

I really like getting lunch from Tokyo Express. The portions are huge and filling. I generally go for the Hibachi Chicken, with double carrots. Try it! You’ll like it!

Used to eat Tokyo frequently when I lived in Rocky Mount but I’ve been gone about 5 years. Stopped by after a football game and caught them before they closed and ordered the Hibachi steak. And it was fantastic. Steak was tender and nowhere near overcooked and the shrimp sauce on the rice was like an old trip home. I do miss it, but maybe that just makes it a hint better when I get to go back. Courage…

Great quick food not far from the highway. Fast, fresh, and inexpensive, it’s an excellent alternative to all the fast food places in the area.

Really bad. Sushi rolls are about 99.9% rice and the rice was so bad I couldn’t eat it. Soba noodles are pretty tasteless. I suggest you avoid this place at all costs, starvation being your only excuse.

This restaurant is overrated on Unilocal. The food is just salty non authentic Asian food. Coming from out of the area, I could not believe that some people rated this good food.

Love this place. Locally owned. Great owners. Food is trastee and good portions. I often get the steak & chicken, add ginger sauce, mix and eat!

The food is decent. I’ve eaten lunch here once a week for about 8 weeks now. The only thing consistent about the food is the amount of sodium you’ll be served. Everything is salty. Certainly not the worst Japanese food I’ve ever had, but far from the best. Apart from the food, service is alright and the place is decently clean. My most recent visit, I was completely turned off when they charged me a $ 1 for extra ginger dressing. I never understood restaurants charging for extra dressing/sauces. I understand there’s a cost, but this place just lost a customer over a 42 cent cup of ginger dressing. Granted, the food has much to do with my willingness to return, I think this is bad restaurant practice. Looks like I’ll go back to Chinese food lunch specials.

Whenever I’m in Rocky Mount, this is usually where I find myself eating. The food is fresh, tasty, and served quickly. I always get hibachi chicken with rice and it is always delicious. Large portions, especially for take-out. I really like the mushrooms and veggies that come with it. The«white sauce» they have is a little different than most hibachi places, and in a good way. Friendly service is also a plus. Probably my favorite fast-food hibachi restaurant.

Located on Sunset Ave, Tokyo Express has transformed a former fast food restaurant into a Rocky Mount gem. Throughout high school, each craving for hibachi-style chicken concluded with a visit to Tokyo Express. After moving to Raleigh, however, the last time I had set foot in Tokyo Express was almost 8 years ago. Until now. Will it be as I remembered it – wonderfully succulent chicken served with freshly cooked rice and vegetables? Are they still generous with the amount of white shrimp sauce? …will they still ask me to sign the credit card receipt, even in the drive-thru? YEP! For $ 5.49 I can still indulge in their hibachi-style chicken marinated in their«special sauce» and served with grilled vegetables(carrots, mushrooms, etc) and fried rice. Tokyo Express has successfully been able to provide the same deliciousness with consistency even after all of these years. If you live in Rocky Mount, if would be a shame if you have never visited or supported Tokyo Express. If you’re an out-of-towner or simply passing through, I definitely recommend Tokyo Express if you are searching for an enjoyable yet affordable meal.

Staff were friendly when I picked up my order. I like that they have a drive-thru. They have my fav mustard packets. Pork egg rolls were on the small side, good but not packed with any veggies or much cabbage. I got a spicy crab roll which was about 8 pieces I think. It was cold which was odd. Rice was sticky but the pieces still fell apart in the soy sauce. White sauce is delicious but I wish it had more kick. I got less than a tsp of wasabi which isn’t enough. I would try other dishes from here because it was average and close to home but it’s nothing special. Looks like Im gonna have to go to Raleigh to curb my cravings.

This is an old favorite for my wife. As you might expect, this is set in a former fast food restaurant. We both got the Hibachi chicken, she with vegetables and I without. I got a little more chicken than my wife, but we were both a bit disappointed in the small amount that qualifies as a «meal». It takes a little more than a bunch of rice to keep me full for more than an hour. All of that aside, the chicken is very tasty with a unique sauce that is just the right amount. If you’re in a hurry, this is a great option for lunch. Pricing is very fair, with both of us eating for around $ 15 with beverages. Definitely worth another trip for us.

This little gem should be a fast food staple. They offer huge portions for such a small price. The food is pretty darn good, but not excellent, otherwise it would get five stars. I had the spicy tuna roll, once again huge for $ 4.99. I enjoyed the crunchies on the inside and generous portion of pickled ginger alongside. I don’t enjoy it myself, but I know many people who really like the white shrimp sauce which they include with every order. I also ordered the shrimp hibachi, loaded with decent sized shrimp and veggies of MY choice. I despise cooked carrots and asked for extra mushrooms in their place… no problem! Huge side of rice, too. I made three meals out of these two items. Others in the restaurant ordered the spring rolls and fried dumplings, and they were cooked to order and looked absolutely delicious. Judging by their clean plates, I guess they tasted great, too.

Tokyo Express is the type of Asian Restaurant that I would drive 5 hours just to eat at. It’s also one where you can take people who don’t like Asian cuisine and I promise you they will like it. Their dishes are extremely tasty and always consistent(and they include no MSG, which is a plus)… Not to mention the sushi is to die for! The service can be a little slow during the lunch and dinner crowds, but they make all the food fresh to order.
