OWNERFIGHTSWITHCUSTOMERSONSOCIALMEDIA: So here’s the thing — Their salon was highlighted on Groupon for various hair services. I was interested, but since I have never been there before I looked into the reviews they have online. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt and assume that if there are a few REALLY bad reviews they could be from highly critical people or just a single bad experience. What I found though, was the owner FIGHTING with a customer who left a bad review!(Link to the Facebook dispute at the bottom). I commented and explained that by acting this way you are losing business, not to mention is highly unprofessional — why would you want someone cutting your hair when they clearly don’t know how to spell the word ‘taught’. He then proceeds to MESSAGEME from his personal Facebook account! He thought I was some disgruntled past customer who said that 28 colors of nail polish wasn’t enough for a salon. First off — not that was no me. Secondly — that is definitely too few nail polishes for a salon. I told him to leave me alone, but he continued to message me. I told him that I would be reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and Groupon following my action to ‘block’ him, because his continued unprofessional response to harass me was point-blank aggressive and threatening. No surprise though, he is not registered with the Better Business Bureau. So subsequently, I am writing this post instead.(I have gotten some grief about the fact that I never actually got my hair done — but I believe the fact that he harassed me at 11:30 pm at night about what I said on Facebook is MORE than worth 1 star). I hope other people realize what type of owner this salon has before purchasing a Groupon or any other service. FACEBOOKLINK:

First time here — loved how my color and cut turned out! Salon was very nice, clean and in a convenient location. Daniel was a wealth of knowledge about hair care — very much appreciated! Will be coming back! Pricing is reasonable and comparable to other nice salons in the area.

This is probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a salon. DONOTGOHERE!!! I went to get corrective color, and I bought the groupon so I could actually afford to fix said mistake. Don’t get me wrong, the people there seemed nice when I went, but I left with it much much MUCH worse than I started. I had talked to the stylist about NOT wanting red hair, but to be back to at least sort-of my natural hair color. Had I known she was dying it red after I specifically asked her not to I would have stopped it. When all the coloring was done and it was time to finish, the owner washed out my hair for all of about two minutes and missed almost all of the color. For that reason, before I left it seemed okay. still very dark but okay. When I got home I was leaving bright orange stains anywhere I put my head so I took a shower and noticed that a TON of color was still in my hair. It took me about fifteen minutes to wash it all out. Not only that, but when I was finished my roots were BRIGHTRED(which I have pictures to prove) with big black chunks left. I looked like garbage. I immediately called back and spoke to the owner, who told me to give it a couple of days. I did that, still hated it, and called back in two days explaining what had happened and that I wanted it fixed. He had the audacity to tell me that leaving all that color in my hair was«impossible» and«we’d never do that to a client.» Funny, because HE is the one who washed so little of it out. Then he said«I don’t think we’re the salon you» and began to explain why this was MY fault, claiming something along the lines of saying I’m a crappy customer. I hung up on him because if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all… then rip them apart on their reviews. By the looks of other Unilocal reviews, I’m not the only one who has had trouble here, and Daniel seems to not take criticism well by trying to «defend» himself on all the negative feedback. DO. NOT. GO. HERE. I should have gotten a feeing when my stylist kept having to ask if she was doing it right, but I will never go to this place again. I’m out $ 90 and I look terrible. Thanks Daniel J’s.

I purchased a groupon and tried this place out for the first time and I’m very happy I did! Laura was great, I was unsure about what I wanted and she recommended a style and highlights and my hair looks GREAT!!!

They fried my hair. My hair is now damaged. Also, I asked for ash highlights and the highlights were redish.

I moved to the area in October and after a couple of failed attempts to find«my» new hair place, I decided to just buy a box and do it myself. I have giant, giant hair. I tried to do my roots, but missed huge swaths of iron gray sparkles, so I tried again. Don’t do that. Don’t color your own hair, first all, at least not if you have giant hair, and certainly don’t try a second time if the first fails. My Tom said I had to wait at least a week before trying to fix it, so I’ve spent the past seven days indoors, a traumatized, pink-haired recluse, rocking and humming«Beauty School Drop Out» to myself. Daniel, who is the colorist I’m not, was probably in physical pain when he saw me walk in, although he was diplomatic. But although my hair appeared to be bad, it was actually much, much worse. My hair already is very stubborn about taking color, but thanks to my double botched job, that pink-hued mess didn’t want to budge. But Daniel, my new hero, is a teddy bear warrior. He colored, he foiled, he washed, he colored. .. He triumphed over that Dr. Seuss shrubbery. Tomorrow, I will re-enter the normal world with what we have agreed we will call ombré. Daniel has more work ahead of him as he restores my look to live action from animé, but he is affordable, patient, and resolute. I have found«my» hair place.

I had the absolute best time today at Daniel J’s Salon! i booked my appointment online a few days ago and received a text confirming my appointment, as well as a reminder the night before. I am always very uneasy about having a new person do my hair(it’s weird and delicate and needs a special touch) and was admittedly very distrustful of having a man do my hair. I’ve never let a male stylist touch it before, but I am sure glad I did today! We started off by having a consultation; he asked what I wanted done, I showed him pictures and explained a bit of my hair history. he told me that because of my hair, it would be $ 20 extra for the amount of color needed. I expected that; I have long hair and don’t expect it to cost the same as someone with a pixie. I wanted to go from the RED red that had to a deep dark brown. He suggested that we leave some of the red I already had as highlights. I agreed, as I have had this color scheme before and liked it. He proceeded to color my hair, I have a lot of hair so it took a while to get all the color in! Rinse, blowdry, cutting and styling my hair; by the end of it I was loving my new hair and my new favorite stylist! He did a fantastic job on my hair; the cut is perfect and very flattering to my face shape. he kept in mind what I wanted, from overall shape to what side I wanted it parted on. Daniel was VERY informative; he knows EXACTLY what he is doing, in my opinion, and he told me everything I needed to know to keep my hair healthy. He recommended products that were right for ME, not advantageous to just his business. I have an oily scalp but very dry hair, and he even showed me a way of brushing my hair to get the natural oils to spread better down the hair strands! Before i left, he showed me the products I should get and said he really wants me to come back for a conditioning treatment, which I definitely will. He gave me a sample of Marula Oil too :) I feel soooo guilty that I wasn’t able to give him a tip this time, but when i go back he’s getting a good one! I am truly grateful to Daniel, because he showed me that my unruly, coarse, weird hair really can be beautiful.

I found Daniel J’s Salon on Groupon. I have been looking for a great stylist for a while now. I got a haircut which I was very happy with. Ultimately I wanted an ombré, and my roots re-done. Apparently there was a misunderstanding somewhere with what I wanted. They did my roots and my hair looked purple to me. Maybe I shouldn’t have used the word purple because the conversation that happened after that was ridiculous. What should have been a simple fix turned into Daniel bantering with me for 20 minutes about my hair. He told me he wasn’t going to do anything because I saw my hair as purple so therefore it will always be purple to me no matter what he does. He didn’t understand what I asking and failed at attempting to even listen. The color plain and simple was unnatural, unflattering, didn’t match the rest of my hair at all and I was very unhappy with it after spending $ 80+ dollars at his salon. All I wanted was some toner or other color added over to it to subdue the red(which I would have been happy to pay for.) He explained people come in all the time trying to get free stuff; insinuating that that’s what I was trying to do. After his attempt of psychoanalyzing me where he implied that I had a skewed perception of myself(further implying that’s why I didn’t like my hair-not because of an unflattering dye job) and mentioning something about how we all suffer from our own body dysmorphia– I was insulted. He then told me he wasn’t comfortable doing my hair because my perception was wrong. The persona in which Daniel’s identifies himself with appears to be one filled with confidence(something that everyone wants in a stylist) however today all I saw was arrogance and immaturity and the inability to approach a situation like a respectable adult. I am a passive, kind person and I work in customer service and rarely do I complain, his response to that was«really because you’ve been arguing with me for 20 minutes» it was more like sitting through 20 minutes of Daniel trying to convince me my hair was right and«beautiful» and he didn’t do anything wrong because he already had it in his head that I was just another difficult customer trying to get free products/services. That’s what was most insulting to me because I would have been happy to pay and really liked Daniel and Laura but never in my life did I think I would be subjected to manipulative bantering like that by a hairstylist. Thankfully Aveda corrected it for me at Ibi David salon in Westlake. They were able to use blue/green tones to neutralize the color and made it look great and brown(to match the rest of my hair) not a purple/red. Daniel had said the only way to fix it was by color stripping my hair. They agreed it was not a flattering color for me and was in fact a bad decision to have a completely different color from the rest of my hair applied to the roots, especially if my ultimate goal was an ombré because red is rarely used for ombres. 15 years of experience doesn’t make you untouchable especially if you’re trying to establish your own business. I was thoroughly insulted, and embarrassed. TL;DR– I was unhappy with hair; he refused to fix(even for money).

After trying several different stylist over my life – I have finally found the perfect one. I love my hair each time I go there-it has gone from drab, dry, damaged and brittle to soft, healthy and current. I have since brought my 2 teen daughters – 15 and 19 – both with very picky about their hair – they both love Daniel. This is a bit of a miracle you will only understand if you have teen daughters. Great service, best styles and cuts in Cleveland(and anywhere!) and very reasonable prices. I love this place!

Thought I liked my hair initially but then I realized he didn’t put any layers in it and it’s one straight length all the way across when I asked him to angle it towards the front and relayer it. Didn’t notice at first because it was curled really prettybut now it just looks blah when I try to straighten up
