The best library I have ever been to. Everything is where it should be and if you need help there are plenty of people to help you. I can’t think of anything dissatisfying about the library.

Call it a refuge. Call it cozy. Call it anything that suggests comfort and joy and I support you. Many cold winter days or steaming summer days I come here to sit on the soft sofas on colorful carpeting next to a huge vase of tastefully arranged silk flowers. I grab a book from the new selections and lose myself for as long as my weary bones require. I have a doctorate but the only thing I ever learned that has been worth the time and cost was reading from Miss Weybrandt at Woodland Elementary. Here are librarians who smile and even laugh out loud. Here are books for every taste with the children’s books far off from where adults read or sit or work at tables. The many small rooms are jammed with books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, talking books, work spaces, arm chairs and references. There are always places to sit, always new selections, always everything a library should tender. Even tho I have to spend a lot of time on the floor to find books on the too low shelves in the popular fiction room I shan’t complain. I would never say a negative thing about the Rocky River Public Library.

This library has a great selection for a small institution, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They make an effort to showcase various topics, seasonal themes, and staff favorites. While I am not a huge pottery fan, they do have some really cool pieces, and the displays change from time to time. Worth a look.

This is by far my favorite library that isn’t named The Library of Congress. It is «off the grid» meaning that it’s an independent library not part of the Cuyahoga County Library system. The staff here is exceptionally good at not only finding books you want to read, but also with making suggestions of other books that you may enjoy, too. To top it off they also house the Cowan Pottery Museum that features several pieces produced by R. Guy Cowan and his former Rocky River studio. Cowan, for those that don’t know, was one of the nation’s leading pottery houses, and the only one in the CLE area during the 1910’s-1930’s. This library is a great place to grab a book, view some art, and let your mind go wandering into the ether.

My lame-ass Saturday routine: stumble out of bed, drink seven or eight cups of coffee while watching videos of people getting hit in the crotch on YouTube, take a shower, and do my errands. My car usually takes me somewhere in the region of the Rocky River Public Library, even though I live probably four blocks from the lovely Lakewood Public Library. The obvious great part about this library is the selection. Whomever buys the CDs for this place certainly has an affinity for the indie-ish pop-ish rock-ish stuff that so entertains the kids nowadays. I mean, they had the new C.S.S. album, like, a week after it came out! Same thing with the new Jenny Lewis album. Good on ya, R.R.P.L. (Oh yeah, they have books as well.)
