This place knows breakfast! Perfectly prepared eggs, hash browns, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. Dinner was good too. Had the prime rib special, with all the fixings. The horseradish was so potent it made my whole face tingle! The kids had chicken strips that were very moist and delicious. Reasonable prices, good service. Say hi to our Auntie Diane K. who is a regular there.

On a creek-side road heading into the Cascades of Southern Oregon is located the Wimer Way Café in the small community of Wimer whose main distinction is a covered bridge. This is a rural community serving the basic needs of small ranches and farms strung along the canyons of Evans Creek and its tributaries. This is not a tourist café, it survives by meeting the needs of the local residents so the food is better than home cooking. Often a stop for motorcyclists that travel the Medford-Wimer-Rogue River Loop through the foothills. The café is well worth a drive for lunch or breakfast.(I haven’t tried the dinners yet.)

It doesn’t surprise me that I’m the first to review this place. It’s in a tiny little town(Wimer) — that may or may not exist, in a just slightly larger town of Rogue River. You walk in and it’s really like the scene of a movie — when a traveler walks into the local eatery. Everyone knows everyone. The owner is more concerned about you, than your order — and it is beyond relaxed. I went there for breakfast, and honestly — it was the best breakfast I’ve had at a diner in years. Everything was cooked perfectly. I had a Denver Omelette with Hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy(I figured when in Rome). They say the sign of a great cook is their ability to cook eggs — this guy did it to perfection. Cooked through, but not overcooked at all — and no «brown spots». The ham, bell pepper and onion was pre-grilled separately and caramelized to bring out their flavor, the cheese was melted. These may seem like little things, but in a city where everything is done as quick as possible, these little touches really do create a better dish. The hash browns were also perfectly cooked, the outside was uniformerly golden brown, and crispy, with the insides beings soft and luscious. Again no «dark spots» anywhere. The biscuits and gravy is the only thing I can’t rave about. That isn’t to say they weren’t bad at all. They just weren’t special. They were the same biscuits and gravy you might get anywhere, though they came out hot and the biscuits again, were perfectly cooked. So great food and warm caring service. What could be better? If you ever find yourself going through I-5 — its worth the 15 min drive out of your way(it isn’t «just off the freeway»).
