The owner, Gus, greats every guest and makes them feel so welcome. This was my second time here for breakfast and it was as good as the first time. Good strong hot coffee is a great way to start your day and Gus serves it. Food portions are very generous so don’t be surprised if you find yourself not finishing your meal and taking some home with you. The restaurant has the vibe of a 50’s diner yet they play a Metal on Pandora. They tend to get busy on the weekends so you may face a wait to get a table, but the wait is worth it.

Great food, great service, great people. What else do you need? The best thing you can do is go there, you won’t be disappointed.

I.LOVE.THIS.PLACE! This is not your average hole in the wall diner. Gus is a younger guy who has created quite flashback in time. His diner is simple and affordable and has the most delicious biscuits and gravy in town! I love the customer service and you will most likely not leave without Gus himself greeting you or telling you thank you.

The toast is like eating cardboard. The coffee is like drinking millstone coffee brand or an analogy would be mix dirt with water. Hash browns .they need a lot of work. I judge a breakfast diner by their coffee, toast, and hash. They are all the cheapest garbage you could eat. Get decent bread. But good beans(no not Starbucks, no not Intelligensia, no not metropolis). Buy beans from dark matter, gaslight, la columbe, or Cameron’s. I have been to cheap diners that have toast and coffee you can tolerate before.

My ham and Swiss cheese Club sandwich served with French fries was spot on good. The ingrediants were very fresh and made for a very pleasing meal. The sandwich was a10 out of 10!!! I was disappointment in the lack of attention I received during my dinning experience. The waitresses were having a social gathering by the kitchen counter. My severe was eating from a bowl of food as my food sat waiting to be served. I drank water with my meal, are least 3 times my waitress walked by my table. She did not check on me or offer to refill my water glass. I would understand if the dinner was packed with customers. Service…5 out 10. Over all score…7.5 out of 10.

Very nice place, my family and I felt welcome the minute we walked in, the owner Gus welcomes you right away, he even talks to you and makes sure you are being taken care of. Such a great experience for breakfast. I just moved in the area and I think I found my breakfast spot.

This is one of those places that you say«I won’t be back» as you are leaving. Then you come back and say it again and again. The food is plain and simple at best. The service is fair on a good day and awful most of the time. Surprising with the choices in the area why they are still in business.

Horrible service. The food is nothing great. Cheap yes, but remember cheap, is not always great. Would never eat here again.

I’ve been to Gus’ several times now, each time for breakfast. To be honest, it’s hard to differentiate between one place and another when eating this meal. That being said, this may be my favorite breakfast joint. Hey, t’s a DINER: you will find chrome, James Dean, John Wayne & Marilyn Monroe etc… I like it. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I keep expecting the waitress to ask«What’ll you have, hon.»(they haven’t used that exact phrase yet). It’s a very down-home, comfortable place, though — and spotlessly clean. The only downside is that the strip mall it’s in feels a bit careworn. So, besides the standard«ambiance», the kicker for me is the skillet. I love a good skillet. The key to a good skillet is the balance between the ingredients. Here, they get it perfect. I mean — a goodly portion of meat to give it heartiness, not too much potato, and plenty of veggies. Pancakes or toast on the side… what else could you ask for? I keep looking for excuses to grab a full and satisfying breakfast there. Stop reading this and just go to Gus’.

Not a bad place, but definitely not up to the Chicago’s best hype. The banana bread french toast was okay but nothing too spectacular compared to other Diner type places for breakfast. This place does not even compare. The prices also are not expensive but a few dollars more then most diners and I recommend going somewhere else.(Mr a’s)

Man this place sure is a «GREASY» spoon! And not in the good way either! Much of the furniture is outdoor party furniture with garbage bags as the table cloths for easy cleaning. The walls are covered with FYE1950’s pictures of James Dean and Marylin Monroe(Not very creative or pretty!). The waitresses were hurried, place was crowded and unorganized. They did not take names at the front so seating became a free for all with guests seating themselves, and cutting in front of us to steal booths. My food was incredibly greasy and not tasty at all, unless you like the taste of crisco! The bun was good though. I got a ham /egg /n cheese on a croissant with crispy hash browns. The hash browns were just potato shavings soaked in cooking grease, the eggs were greasy, ham was diced so I coudln’t tell if it was a decent ham steak or not, and the croissant was pretty good actually. When they poured my iced tea, I got a splash of tea with a mound of ice which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t next to impossible to get a refill. I would not reccomend.

Lets start out with my first impression here, it’s a small strip mall restaurant crowded with cheesy Applebee’s-style 50’s memorabilia. We had to wait 25 minutes for seats while three empty booths were left unattended covered in filth and dirty dishes. One of the first things you’ll notice once you walk into Gus’ is that half of the tables are just outdoor tables covered with plastic sheets for«easy cleanup» though they just wipe them with napkins between patrons… While waiting we stood around with 15+ people, all gawking at the empty booths and tables trying to figure out if we should just take seats and ask for them to be bussed while we sat. Finally a waitress announced our name and pointed to a pile of dishes on top of a round plastic table. We shuffled toward the table, wondering if someone was going to bus it while we were approaching. We sat and waited… and waited… and waited… Finally a waitress came to our table and asked if we’d like something to drink, I pointed to the dishes and asked her to clear them, she just said, «Oh yeah, we’ll have someone come get those.». The coffee was bland, okay for a cheap diner but it was $ 4.50 here… Even with 2 refills that’s not a good deal. I had the lumberjack skillet. It was literally just a mound of mushy potatoes and a half pound of cheese slathered with a half can of Hormel brand corned beef hash with two overcooked eggs slapped on top to cover the cook’s embarrassment(I can only imagine this is the cook’s rationale… I would be embarrassed if I served this to another person…). My brother had a hamburger. It was a from-frozen tough slab of overcooked crud. It wasn’t any better than what you’d get from Burger King… for about twice the price. The fries were crinkle-cut frozen bland mush. A point to cap off this terrible adventure is that in total for three people to eat cheap brunch was over $ 40 without tip. I can’t imagine coming back here. TL;DR: Terrible staff, bad food, way overpriced.

I came here with my son for the first time. My son tried the cinnamon swirl french toast and said it was the best of his life, which in our food e household we call BOML. I felt the same way about my egg white omelet. I don’t think I’ve ever had a better omelette. My son’s french toast came with cinnamon pecans sprinkled all over, which looked delicious, but he is not a nut guy. He wasn’t going to say anything, but the attentive waitress assured him that it was trying to take them back and try it again. His bacon with cooked to perfection, the hash browns were just darn good hash browns, and the pancakes were light and fluffy. I didn’t notice that Gus’s Diner with more expensive than other breakfast places, especially since the food is as good as it is, and the people are very nice. I’m looking forward to my next trip here.

Only have been here a couple times, but I can see myself finding a reason to visit Rolling Meadows more often. Actually on the proper day, traffic isn’t bad from Naperville. I love Gus’ philosophy to enter as strangers and leave as friends. I often wish we lived in the days of the fifties and things were simple and everyone was friendly. You definitely have that feeling here. I was raised in a small town so I always love diners. You have to try the house speciality, made from scratch banana bread french toast. Covered with pecans and bananas too. Come hungry or just plan on leftovers, as I do. Need to check out their lunch menu. Step inside and feel the magic, you’ll crave a return visit and soon be a regular. @dinewithgus #gusdiner

I was almost about to leave this place just because of the service was ‘Little’ late. But thanks to the guy who got me a water right after I sat and the other one who greeted me even though he was not my server. One senior guy, who came after me, left because no one attended him on time. I think they were short on staff on a busy saturday. There were only 4 people in the dining area. But anyways, after that moment, I had a really good service and food. It seems like all 4 of them were serving everyone. One guy greeted me, the other guy brought water, a woman took my order and coffee and the other lady brought my food! They were all nice and happy people. I had a Diner experience just how I wanted, like how they are all friendly and fun, cool local people hanging out and involving you in the conversation! I liked those locals and all the servers! Atleast three of them came and informed me and kept me updated on why my pancake is late. Excellent food by the way. Service could be a little better. But it is NOT bad. Please check out this place
