Almost four years ago, I started taking BJJ classes because I was fat. A few months in, I was still utterly confused by BJJ, getting destroyed by grueling training sessions, and still really fat. I had an appreciation for the technical aspects of the sport, but had a hard time finding enjoyment in the activity. Then I met Mike. Mike freaking loves jiu jitsu. He thinks it’s really fun. He doesn’t force you to find it fun, he just has so much fun teaching and training that you start to think«maybe this could be fun.» And his contagious enjoyment of the sport is what helped me get over that first few months of BJJ where everything hurt and I had no idea how this sport could be a fun hobby. Fast forward to today where I don’t train as much as I used to, but I still try to when I can cuz BJJ is so damn fun. And I feel like I owe a part of that to Mike. Stop by to take a class, his gym is clean, his instruction is top notch, and the people I’ve met there are great training partners. And who knows, you might end up liking it! I’m still fat though.
