We went to the West Rome Drive-in for the double feature of Monster’s Inc and the Lone Ranger. Great place to bring your lawn chair and enjoy the movie! Unfortunately, the mosquitos were the size of grasshoppers and very hungry so despite bug spray I ended up sitting in the back of the SUV covered up with a blanket to try to ward them off. Lots of folks had citronella candles with them and I’ll definitely come better prepared next time! Concession stand is newly remodelled with a big selection of food including pizza and burgers. Popcorn has real butter too! Only complaint is that there are only 3 stalls in the ladies room so the line was pretty long after the first feature!

I grew up going to the West Rome Drive-in Theater and am so glad it’s still around and showing current movies. My parents must have taken my brother and me to see Splash with The Jungle Book(what a hell of a double feature!) here when we were little at least 3 times. At some point in the late 80s they switched from the dancing hotdog and magician bun intermission cartoons to some puppies/kittens/time lapsed flowers blooming to flute-like music and I’m not sure what they play now. Of the fewer than 700 functioning drive-ins left in the country, I’d venture to say this is one of the better ones! Pretty location, great snack bar, you can sit out on a blanket if you bring your Skin-So-Soft or mosquito spray.
