Stopped here after a Long motorcycle ride in the rain. Got a hot shower, ordered out and settled in to a very comfortable clean room. Check in was quick and easy, too.

The Koolwink was great inside and out! The room was so clean and well preserved like they had everything wrapped in plastic since the 1950’s! You can tell that the management cares a lot about the place, as they pay attention to details. The man checking us into our room was pleasant and welcoming. Also, the owner came out to greet us as well. If we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely go back!

This is such a cute, retro motel. I don’t usually rate motels because they’re so generic and uninteresting. This place however is different. This is a family-owned motel. The place is very clean and every morning they make your bed and replace your towels, refill your cookies and mint. Inside the room, you are also given a good number of amenities. You are provided with a cable tv, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave, and a very spacious room. The bed is also firm and nice. The bathtub is also spacious. You definitely will not feel cramped in there. They also offer free wifi. The design is very retro. According to the owner, when he renovated he kept the original style of this place. They also have lounges outside your room so you can hang outside. They also have picnic grounds available.

If you need to spend the night in or near Romney, West Virginia, you have two options: The Koolwink Motel or the South Branch Inn. I decided to stay at the Koolwink, which is located on Route 50 just east of the downtown area. The Koolwink is a classic example of old roadside motel. The original units were built in the 1950s and early 60s, with an «annex» of additional units built in the late 60s up on the hill near the original building. You can find out more about the hotel and its history at . For my recent two-night stay I was given a room in the«annex,» which you drive up a short gravel road to get to. All rooms at the Koolwink are non-smoking, but if you need a cig, just step outside your door and sit in one of the many deck chairs that have been provided. To the owners’ credit, the rooms have been tricked out with big flatscreen TVs, and the Wi-Fi connection is pretty good. Water pressure in the shower is pretty good(which is always important), the rooms are quite clean, in-room coffee makers are provided, the heating and air-conditioning units are efficient(if somewhat old), and my room had a couple of nice upholstered chairs to relax in. My only complaint would be that the bed was a bit too«broken-in,» and the two pillows that were provided were pretty meager. New matresses and bigger pillows would be a wise investment. I’m rather fond of good old-fashioned diners and motels, and for $ 57.00 per night the Koolwink was a pretty fair deal overall. If you prefer more modern accomodations, driving a few miles further east on Route 50 will take you up to the top of a hill, where there is a shopping center and the South Branch Inn. The South Branch Inn would have charged me $ 85.00 per night. Take your pick.

We happened upon Koolwink by chance, late in the evening. Neither of us were expecting anything quite so charming! This place is tops. The style is impeccable. If you have an appreciation for mid-20th century aesthetics, you’ll love this place. It may be an older place but it was clean as a whistle. As a bonus, they offer a DVD player and an impressive(in quality, not quantity) library of films to choose from for enjoying in your lodgings. We chose«Sullivan’s Travels» — perfect! I would go out of my way to stay here again. Keep it up!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Koolwink this past weekend. The desk clerk was very friendly and personable. The room was large, very clean and cheerful. Huge flat-screen TV and nice hot shower with great water pressure. Highly recommend!
