I was horrified to see several Buggy Ride places running the horses off to the side on the main drag, where eighteen wheelers rocket down the road. I selected Ed’s because his site specifically states that he does not do that, and he doesn’t. The rise takes one down an asphalt back road, and then onto an unpaved farm road. The Amish were harvesting tobacco barefoot today, only using horses and wagons. The farm that one visits is nice, with hand made quilted items, and jarred treats. The driver Sam was a little difficult to hear over the clacking hooves, he could up the volume some, but then again he is no spring chicken. The horses were fine looking beasts. One of them, «George», likes to try to bite the other, «Randall». Poor Randall. It must make for a long day.

We researched our options for buggy rides and decided on what we feel was the most authentic and least commercial experience available. Eds buggy rides… and we are glad we did(even the reluctant buggy ride goers among us!) Arriving early we were entertained by feeding the adorable goats on the property(bags of goat feed available for 50cents and water available for $ 1 on your honor system). We were delighted to have an Amish driver who pleasantly shared what life is really like and answered our curious questions gracefully. We enjoyed a quiet ride to a working Amish farm and learned of the the local crops and how self sustaining an Amish farm is. We also enjoyed a lovely chat with Jessie, the elder of the farm who ran a quilt store on the property(lemonade and whoopie pies for those so inclined… such as myself!) Visiting the shop was a no pressure endeavor and for those interested in purchasing homemade jams, pot holders, «quillows» and/or quilts made with exquisite detail, they accept cash or check, no credit cards). If you want to experience life of the Amish, consider eds buggy rides over the more commercial options. you won’t be disappointed! TIPS: –call Ahead. owner Ed is vey accommodating –arrive early so you can feed the goats! –we went on weekday and there was no wait –take cash… tips are not expected but always appreciated(and with every penny we felt) –less expensive and more authentic than other options!

My family and I had an amazing time on Ed’s Buggy Tours– our guide was Amish and he explained so many things to us– we have done many other buggy tours and this was by far the most educational and interesting one we have done. I highly recommend this tour!

Ed is a super nice guy who greeted us right away and chatted with us for awhile while we waited for a buggy. Tour was excellent and the guide did a great job. My kids loved feeding the goats. This is an affordable real Amish experience. The Amish gift shop is wonderful. I would definitely do this again!

We arrived there around 4:15pm on Memorial Day and were immediately greeted by Ed(the owner) in the parking lot. We were seated in a buggy right away and began our tour with a retired farmer named Sam. He was knowledgable with the area, crops and general knowledge of the Amish. His tour was very personal. We arrived at the Amish farm with a mini store where you could buy some Amish goods. We also visited the barn where the horse posed for pictures with the visitors(we could have just been lucky that the horse was in a good mood). Overall me and friends had a good time with nothing negative to say about the experience. The ride was $ 16 per person plus what ever you want to leave for tip.

I might be biased because I had no desire to go but this was a terrible experience. The guide had no personality and did a poor job on answering our questions. We were supposed to see a farm but were taken to a random gift shop instead. The horses were so thin we felt bad using them. We are attempting to call PETA. Again, I went into the day with a negative mindset but there were really no positives to this experience.

Our horses were so slow they were practically dead. What should have been a 30 min ride took nearly an hour, which wasn’t ideal with two small kids. The rain didn’t help either, but I can’t blame them for that.

The buggy ride was OK, just disappointed in the«petting zoo» which consisted of two goats in a pen. We also ended up on the side of the buggy behind the driver so 3 adults in a line behind a driver so not much of a view.
